saintlystu Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Was interviewed a couple of hours back by SSN. They're lurking at the bottom of the precinct!!
Give it to Ron Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I don't rate either of them particularly highly, so I have no interest in defending Hoddle - but anyone with a huge budget in a lower division could do that (there are 3 titles, each bought with more cash than anyone else) - and they were runners up in a Charity Shield they didn't even win the League or Cup to qualify for. Now show me him doing that without a massive transfer budget and I'll be impressed. Either that, or money money money is our plan, in which case buy the players and stick the Ted Bates statue in charge. So if its a case of just throwing money at it ...why did Chelse not win the Prem, why are Newcastle so ****e considering the money spent? Money is very important when you are in the Premiership...but in League 1 I am not convinced its the be all and end all. Keegan has experience, can attract players to the club, can get bums on seats which adds revenue.....thats why I want him coupled with the fact his managerial record is very good compared to others. Seeing as you mentioned him Hoddle had loads of dosh at Wolves and Burley spent a fortune here ...not quite that simple as putting a statue in charge is it?
trousers Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Actually, I did point this out twice. Apologies, missed that. Thanks
trousers Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Was interviewed a couple of hours back by SSN. You or Kevin Keegan....?!
The9 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Well that's your opinion which is fair enough. However, thankfully you aren't in charge or choosing our new manager. We shall see. ...not whether I'm in charge of choosing the new manager or not, I'm definitely not in charge of that, just how it turns out if we do appoint Keegan as manager. Unlike some, should we appoint him I'll be backing the team and shutting up about it. Until it goes to tits, anyway.
SaintRobbie Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Newcastle fans will be gutted he's picked us over them!
martel Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 So if its a case of just throwing money at it ...why did Chelse not win the Prem, why are Newcastle so ****e considering the money spent? Good Post "Give it to Ron", puts everything in perspective, the only thing I could add is the moral boost will be massive; only league one I know but it will feel a bit like the eighties are back again.
miserableoldgit Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Aww, you spoiled my fun ! I note with interest you are using ` not ' for your apostrophe, is there a particular reason for this ? If so, would you like to share it with us ? Sorry. It`s a trade secret.
trousers Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Ok...page 9....time for a conspiracy theory.... Supposing the Kevin Keegan pictures were leaked to the press by Pinnacle as a smokescreen for the real 'surprise' managerial appointment.... Surely they wouldn't want to disappoint people by coming up with a ruse that was seen as a better manager appointment than the real one - just think of the reactions of fans coming down from the high of us netting Keegan if we were really getting Tisdale (for example) So, by process of logical deduction, IF this is an 'inside job' decoy then we can only expect an even more spectacular appointment than Keegan tomorrow. God I'm good at this malarkey.
Ashby Saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Just a thought but since this story is now on SSN, the BBC and other news outlets, would we expect a denial from KK by this evening if there is absolutely nothing in it?
1976_Child Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Now KK coming back to Saints would make my millenium.. please....

Seany S Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I saw Bruno Metsu doing his managerial thang last night when flicking through the sports channels. Got me to dreaming again. He would totally pwn as manager compared to King Kev.
The9 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 So if its a case of just throwing money at it ...why did Chelse not win the Prem, why are Newcastle so ****e considering the money spent? Seeing as you mentioned him Hoddle had loads of dosh at Wolves and Burley spent a fortune here ...not quite that simple as putting a statue in charge is it? Chelsea didn't because they didn't throw enough money at it. It takes hundreds of millions to get the kind of world class players throughout the squad that they'd need to overhaul other teams with similar CL income. Did they even sign a player in January ? However, as you've said, at League One level it's not so important. Unless you've got it, and then you can just sign a squad of players from the league above and let the quality do the rest. It depends how much money you've got in relation to the competition. Chelsea failed as Man U and Liverpool (and to a lesser extent the mortgaged-up Arsenal) are able to match them for world class players, at least in the short term. They succeeded compared to 15+ other teams in the Prem though. Keegan's successes have all come from being in the situation where his expenditure has outstripped all his competition by some distance. Burley may have spent "a fortune" (I assume we mean the oft-mentioned £7m from Wilde's coup, though £2m was bookmarked for Rasiak in January 2006 under Lowe), but we were still only about the 5th biggest spenders in that division that season by the end of it. From posting the figures on TSF at the time I still recall Derby, Sunderland and Wolves all spent more. We finished about where we would expect to be for that expenditure, in the Play-Offs. And why WERE Newcastle so bad ? I mean, they had Keegan in charge not so long ago, surely nothing could go wrong. Could it be that you don't always get value for what you pay for, and it's only terminal when you don't have loads more money to throw at the problem ? It IS a good statue though...
Crab Lungs Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 i saw bruno metsu doing his managerial thang last night when flicking through the sports channels. Got me to dreaming again. He would totally pwn as manager compared to king kev. that would make me so ****ing happy. so happy.
Simon_UK Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Am I the only one worried that he has a habit of quiting when the going gets tough. If we don't start well he will walk when we get beaten by Stockport at the end of January.
The9 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Am I the only one worried that he has a habit of quiting. Yes, you are definitely the first person to mention this. :smt046
niceandfriendly Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 that would make me so ****ing happy. so happy. You've been going on about that bloke for years and years. Everytime I hear his name mentioned I think of "that bloke on the Saints forum who is in love with him". Do you have a bet on or something?
The9 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 that would make me so ****ing happy. so happy. Could they not have a wig-off ?
niceandfriendly Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 If we don't start well he will walk when we get beaten by Stockport at the end of January. Yes this is definately going to happen. I think it's a fact actually. Probably best we don't go with KK afterall. Someone tell Matty QUICK!
Barry the Badger Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 (edited) Am I the only one worried that he has a habit of quiting when the going gets tough. It would definitely be important for the fans not to turn on him if we have a few bad results.... Although I still can't see whole thing this being true, as exciting as it would be. JoeShmoe Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I just heard a big announcement tomorrow ??? Maybe BS but thats what was I told im not ITK in any way shape or form .. just a phone call from a pal
Dearne Valley Saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Just a thought but since this story is now on SSN, the BBC and other news outlets, would we expect a denial from KK by this evening if there is absolutely nothing in it? It is odd how there has been no denial from anyone regarding this story yet. If it was rubbish you would have thought somebody would've come out by now and rubbished it. I really hope this is true. He is just what this club needs after the last few horrific years.
Seany S Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 that would make me so ****ing happy. so happy. I am pleased to report his hair is still as awesome as ever. His assistant for Qatar was an Arabic fella wearing a full head scarf and traditional outfit, meanwhile Bruno was just rocking a suit, casually unbuttoned shirt, and that epic barnet just flowing over the shoulders.
Right sider Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 The 21 days of exclusivety are over tomorrow so something IS going to happen ( for better or worse)
Pancake Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 You've been going on about that bloke for years and years. Everytime I hear his name mentioned I think of "that bloke on the Saints forum who is in love with him". Do you have a bet on or something? Hard on more likely...
SaintBobby Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Press conference at 12.30pm? Not according to the Saints press office. Assume, if it turns out to be false, we can block the muppet who posted this from the list, mods? Even if true, it will just have been a good guess.
Crab Lungs Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I am pleased to report his hair is still as awesome as ever. Thank you for the report.. keep me posted! Were you one of the original Metsu fans on the previous SFC boards?
Crab Lungs Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 You've been going on about that bloke for years and years. Everytime I hear his name mentioned I think of "that bloke on the Saints forum who is in love with him". Do you have a bet on or something? Well.... not as such... hhahaha! I am glad you remember him though, and me, its brought a little smile to my face. :-)
krissyboy31 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 It is odd how there has been no denial from anyone regarding this story yet. If it was rubbish you would have thought somebody would've come out by now and rubbished it. I really hope this is true. He is just what this club needs after the last few horrific years. The BBC at Lunchtime said that although there had been no formal discussions between Pinnacle and KK, they did not deny the story.
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 This picture of MLT looks weird. Probably because it was taken straight after he'd tried to guess how many M&M's were in the jar at the chipping norton summer fete.
saints_is_the_south Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Press conference at 12.30pm? Not according to the Saints press office. Assume, if it turns out to be false, we can block the muppet who posted this from the list, mods? Even if true, it will just have been a good guess. Did you phone them? I doubt they'd tell a random fan phoning up if there was anyway tbh, the club would annouce in on the OS or we'll hear through the echo/solent/ssn.
OldNick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Unlike you nickh i actually speak the truth, How ironic though looking at that post, you said "We are not dead yet we have been in a lot worse positions than this before" Lookslike you have a habbit of being wrong about everything doesnt it Id be careful calling me a liar sonny. As for your quote from me at the time with about 15 games to go, we were not dead. As for you wanting to go into administration you should be ashamed. I myself have not been personally effected by it, but there will be many small businesses who are by losing money us doing so. Add the fact that we start with a minimum -10 that could get worse, add to the fact that it basically finished any chance of us staying up. Yes we are rid of RL and some of the others but I wouldnt get too excited as there are many hoops to jump still. Lets hope Pinnacle get their money paid, if not????
SaintRobbie Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Nick, once this is all announced will you do us all a favour and join the optimists club?
Polaroid Saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Fulham. Can someone post the pic of Keegan in his special car please? It does make me giggle.
SaintBobby Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Did you phone them? I doubt they'd tell a random fan phoning up if there was anyway tbh, the club would annouce in on the OS or we'll hear through the echo/solent/ssn. Yes, I did. They will basically tell random people phoning up, have done so a few times before. Sometimes I say, "I want to write somethign about it on a Saints website". The usual protocol is that a calling notice or operational note is sent out, usually about 24 hours in advance. Sometimes later in uncertain and fast-moving situations (like this one), but if you're trying to get e.g. live coverage on SSN, you don't want to give too short notice. No such notice has been issued (at least yet).
alpine_saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 How ironic that the doom-and-gloom merchants about this takeover were at the forefront of slagging those off predicting relegation last season...
SaintBobby Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 How ironic that the doom-and-gloom merchants about this takeover were at the forefront of slagging those off predicting relegation last season... Looking at your previous posts, I'd hardly say you've been upbeat about the Pinnacle takeover....
OldNick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Nick, once this is all announced will you do us all a favour and join the optimists club? Iam optimistic, it wasnt me moaning all the time. If it wasnt the board it was the manager or the players not being good enough etc etc. I support the team and club.
stevegrant Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Here's the footage from SSN - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLCEphK--8o
Pancake Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Just heard that Keegan has been around for ages at the club, in fact he he been involved with all the in and outs of the close season. Dyer wanted to stay when it was announced that KK was turning up, but KK got him a new car to sweeten the deal:
OldNick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 How ironic that the doom-and-gloom merchants about this takeover were at the forefront of slagging those off predicting relegation last season...Alps it wasnt rocket science to see we'd struggle. Just a case a large majority wanted to get behind the club during testing times. It is called the British spirit
miserableoldgit Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Probably because it was taken straight after he'd tried to guess how many M&M's were in the jar at the chipping norton summer fete. Was this before or after he ate them??

saintwarwick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 How ironic that the doom-and-gloom merchants about this takeover were at the forefront of slagging those off predicting relegation last season... This from the biggest doom and gloom merchant on this forum.
StuRomseySaint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 William Hill already offering 11/4 that KK will quit Saints Pretty good odds I would say, I'm going to have a punt on that. It's a certainty that he will quit at some point, after all, he is going to die at some point, probably within the next 40 years.
merrimd Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Am I the only one worried that he has a habit of quiting when the going gets tough. If we don't start well he will walk when we get beaten by Stockport at the end of January. Not that much of a habit though is it. He quit Newcastle when they were 2nd in the prem, quit Fulham inorder to take over England full time, quit man City having taken them up from CCC into comfortable mid table and quit Newcastle again due to having Wise put in above him. Perhaps we should be looking for a manger who gets the sack from every job. Obviously he would be a much better candidate!
