Sky have many insider type people in the football world, guess that goes with paying the billions they have for the years they have to the clubs. From an analysts point of view i would trust them more then say BBC or that other highly accurate news source the Daily Echo ;)

So what they are reporting is true as we already know they had a meeting with him. What we don't know is what that was a meeting for. Maybe they asked him to join the consortium, become an abassador to the club, have a deal with his football schools etc etc.

Whatever role he has just being at the club has to be a good thing. If he was to takeover as manager then that could only be a stroke of genius by Crouch,MLT or whoever will be paying the bill. In division three i doubt were get many players able to draw the crowds back, but by having a legend as a manager people would come back in their droves to see Keegan return.

An absolute dream for me if this happens! My first games watching Saints were with KK in the team and I had been a fan of Keegan before I was a true supporter of Saints, a real childhood hero for me. I had hoped this scenario would happen one day, without the League 1 status of course, but I guess it is our current position that has meant that this could come true.

Who knows, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Seeing as MLT is still on the payroll and effectively an employee of Sky, I am pretty certain they would have been in contact with him to check on the story, and also get clearance to put it on the news.

Well Im a Season Ticket holder and have been for 9 years this is one of the most exciting things that has happened to SFC in a long time even if it is a rumour I for one would not mind seeing him back managing us, at least whilst hes with is he will show passion and fans may actually start believing again Bring him on I say maybe Wotte can assist Matt Le Tiss as Chairman and Laurie Mac as Ambassador am I dreaming !!!!!!!!!!!! Cant wait to get back in my North Stand seat again and have something to sing about COYR !

Looking forward to it if true, though i have to forget his tendancy to walk away when things get a little bit messy.

Very excited for three reasons however, 1 being that he is a fantastic motivator and man manager that hopefully can drag the best out of our players. 2 that a big name should attract larger crowds and hopefully better standards of players (and shows ambition) and 3 that i can't see him coming unless there is money behind him, so hopefully we will have some to play with

A man can only dream.

Oh, and KP, i am also with you on the PA matter.

Got a feeling Keegan might have a different role.

What exactly are you thinking of? DOF? On the Board? Ambassadorial? Boot boy?

As DOF he could mesh in brilliantly with Tisdale.

Now that would get me excited.

Bring it on ... we would definitely be the Newcastle-of-the-South if this comes off!

30k for the first game at SMS baying 'Kee-gan, Kee-gan, Kee-gan' for 90 mins,

(obviously interspresed with Le Tiss, Le Tiss, Matty Matt Le Tiss ... etc).

Colly wobbles at the thought!

The main problem I see with Keegan is that at every club he has managed, he has had a generous (to put it mildly in some cases) transfer kitty to play with - with Fulham in the same division as we're now in, he spent £2m just on Barry Hayles - will he have the same luxury here? I doubt it, personally.

Now you are making me feel old. I take it you were not around in the late 70's/early 80's ? :-)

That does surprise me .... I thought he managed them in what is now the CCC

... Did he promote them twice then ???

No he promoted them to what is now Championship level, then left to become England manager.

Jean Tigana got them promoted to the Premier League.

Yes!

I stand corrected!

Um... Thinks ???

What happened to Newcastle last season? Can't quite recall :(

surely we should be getting hold of MC's lad who posts on here and get him to get his old man to ring KK and get him to spill the beans back here

If Keegan comes, will that encourage any of our players to stay that might otherwise leave ?

Woo-hoo bloated squad !

No I was around I just said the most exciting thing to have happened in a while thats not to say the 70s and 80s were not good

... To the CCC ??????

Yes he got Fulham promoted from league 1 to the CCC, then left to concentrate fully on England job.

So not only has he managed in league one he has got a team promoted from it :)

Well he will probably be able to sign Barry Hayles again - perhaps just not for £2m. Watch out for Geoff Horsefield and Dirk Lehmann too.

I thought they were turning into the Southampton of the North.

We'll have a franchise. Newcastle become the Southampton of the North, Stoke already the Southampton of the West Midlands. Whatever next?

OK, before you ridicule NI, please tell me ...... what Clubs has Keegan managed in Div 1 ????

That would depend what you meant by Div 1.

He managed Newcastle in 1992/3 in Div 1 (now the CCC)

He managed Fulham in what is now League One in the late 90s, then Div 3.

He managed Man City in 2001 in Div 1 (now the CCC) too.

But only one of those is the level that we're currently at.

Kevin Keegan's managerial career

Team From To Games Won Lost Drawn

Newcastle 16-01-2008 04-09-2008 21 6 9 6

Man City 24-05-2001 11-03-2005 176 77 60 39

Fulham 07-05-1998 09-05-1999 61 38 11 12

Newcastle 05-02-1992 08-01-1997 251 138 62 51

Just for the record, I think it's a terrible idea, and the arguments against are many and varied. The argument for seems to be "he's a big name and it will get people to attend", but how long will that last if we leak goals and lose games as he chucks 8 players forward and then leaves the club in late August as is his wont?
