slickmick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 If Keegan comes, will that encourage any of our players to stay that might otherwise leave ? Well if it doesn't, then it shows what a bunch of t0ssers they really are.
Bailey Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Would be brilliant, but lets not get ahead of ourselves. I remain cautiously optimistic. Until it's all confirmed and finalised, I won't get too excited! Here's hoping though!
RedAndWhite91 Posted 18 June, 2009 Author Posted 18 June, 2009 Also, a Sunderland fan emailed in saying that Keegan would be a good move for Saints, and hopefully he'd get us back to the big-time, which we deserve. Nice to see we have support of other club's fans. Back on topic though, even if SSN did get it from the Echo, the Echo said that "Keegan MAY be in talks", whereas SSN said "Keegan IS in talks". So they must have information elsewhere.
Pancake Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 To be fair though, I have never seen a Sky Sports News source actually ever be wrong, and I watch a lot of SSN. They ran a "breaking news" story about Paul Allen coming to Saints; I also remember them running a story about us signing Joe Cole on Chelsea back when we were in the Prem...
slickmick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Exciting times, but I'm trying not to get into hysterical mode. I'll concede that a big-name manager could do a lot for us - attracting players being the most imprtant, but also boosting crowds. When he came to us as a player he obviously developed a fondness for Saints and it was a happy and successful time. That had a lot to do with the whole setup of the club then, and for him to come now and be successful it is vital that the personnel and infrastructure around him are right. We've seen how things can go wrong with him in the wrong setting and without backing and support. My main concern is whether he still has the tactical nous from years ago and the drive and appetite if things don't go well. We havent seen much evidence of it in his recent appointments. But I'll stay positive and hope that, returning to grass roots and with backing, support and the love of a few fans, he can rekindle the flame. Got a feeling Keegan might have a different role.
Dicko Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I'm not particularly excited about KK His managerial career is littered with resignations when things get difficult
the scud Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Will Rasiak, Saga and Surman think again about leaving now?
cf saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Got a feeling Keegan might have a different role. DoF? so with Wotte kept on?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 18 June, 2009 Author Posted 18 June, 2009 Got a feeling Keegan might have a different role. Either way, I'd have him at the club in any role, even groundsman, or steward! Just to have him here will be a boost. Let's hope it all goes through.
stinhk Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Why does everyone assume the KK contact is in relation to the manager's job? Wouldn't something less demanding be more suitable?
Bailey Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Will Rasiak, Saga and Surman think again about leaving now? Rasiak and Saga will probably still want to leave. They may not be aware of the hysteria surrouning Keegan and what it would mean for the club should he become Manager. Surman, on the other hand, may be tempted to stay put. As a Saints fan he might find it very hard to leave the club at a time when their are new owners with ambition. The prospect of playing under an ex-Saint in the form of Kevin Keegan might be quite an exciting prospect too.
Give it to Ron Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Why does everyone assume the KK contact is in relation to the manager's job? Wouldn't something less demanding be more suitable? well the concourse service in the Kingsland is atrocious...especially since they shut the bottle bar.
Joesaint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 God if it all happens....... I would wonder if I were dreaming or something. Can this be true? COYR
Badger Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 TSW....The Echo.....SSN. Not too difficult to spot a chain emerging is it ? On the other hand it may of course be true.
fareham saint phil Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 just coming to 11am here it comes now, first time ive seen it
trousers Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Wouldn't Sky have run this by their employee, Mr M Le Tissier, before running with the story....?
SaintRichmond Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Breaking News: SKY SOURCES: CONSORTIUM BIDDING TO BUY SOUTHAMPTON HOLD TALKS WITH KEVIN KEEGAN. "Keegan In Talks With Southampton" "Big breaking news in the last 5 minutes, the consortium have been talking to Kevin Keegan" Nick Illingsworth is currently being interviewed on Pinnacle's talks with Keegan, and they are talking in depth about the club's situation, and the supposed fact that Keegan may well be on his way here, if backed with money. Illingsworth: "Without money, I can't see Keegan doing it, he needs to be able to buy Premiership, or Championship standard players" "This could be the greatest day in the last 5 years, or just another false dawn" This interview is going on for a fair time, and the yellow bar is going across at the bottom of the screen. I know there is a Keegan rumour thread but I thought I'd do this one as it is now breaking news on SSN. A very valid point by Nick ........he has "bought" success in the past ........ It would of course not cost as much in Div 1, but still a substantial amount IS required I am however surprised about the approach to Keegan, if true My money was definitely on Gordon Strachan ..... I wonder what went wrong ???
OldNick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Wouldn't Sky have run this by their employee, Mr M Le Tissier, before running with the story....? that is a very good point
SaintRichmond Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Why does everyone assume the KK contact is in relation to the manager's job? Wouldn't something less demanding be more suitable? Are you inferring that (Senior) :DCar Park Attendant is NOT demanding ????
dubai_phil Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I think it is a pretty fair guess that MLT would have had a lot to do with this if it comes off, and it will be exactly what we need. The ONLY bit that worries me is the "comment" from NI about "Premier League quality" players... That didn't work for us in the CCC and I'd much rather we went after "exceptional L1 level players" But fingers stay crossed
once_bitterne Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 They were not wrong. SFC were in talks with Paul Allen - he just got cold feet. LOL!! Please don't tell me you still believe that!! The club even admitted that PA had no interest whatsoever in buying a provincial club in the second tier of English football!!!!
The Rover Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 when will they realise that Nick Illingsworth is not considered to be the representative of saints fans. He just some tool with a rubbish supporters group. Not true - he speaks for many of us, myself included. :) HTH
kpturner Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Got a feeling Keegan might have a different role.Correct - they want him to play.
twoandahalfstuds Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Wow! A fair few negative comments from Southampton fans emailed into SSN. Let's show some enthusiasm for it!!!
Saint_Jonny Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Newcastle fan: "I would be soooo jealous if Southampton get le tiss AND Keegan, I'll become a Southampton fan!" Uh oh, we're in for a geordie invasion!
saintjay77 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Wow! A fair few negative comments from Southampton fans emailed into SSN. Let's show some enthusiasm for it!!! yeah i was wondering if any of the people that got read out on SSN were from here. I guess it will be easier to find the ones that had the negative comments though lol
RedAndWhite91 Posted 18 June, 2009 Author Posted 18 June, 2009 Some of these emails sent in by fans of other clubs are fantastic - Brentford fans saying how great it'd be for the Saints (And League One), a Newcastle fan saying that if Keegan became our manager he'd support us, and he is jealous we are in talks with him. He also said we'd get promoted no problem with him and MLT, who is a "legend".
StuRomseySaint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Apparantly Illingsworth thinks that Wotte has as much experience of League 1 management as Keegan. Silly Nicky
PaulSaint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 They were not wrong. SFC were in talks with Paul Allen - he just got cold feet. More like he walked away with Duck Feet!
Crab Lungs Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Wow! A fair few negative comments from Southampton fans emailed into SSN. Let's show some enthusiasm for it!!! That doesn't surprise me. Cackers are renowned for moaning about everything. Stupid ****s.
kpturner Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 LOL!! Please don't tell me you still believe that!! The club even admitted that PA had no interest whatsoever in buying a provincial club in the second tier of English football!!!!I know for a fact that they held talks with PA - straight from a Board Members mouth.
Scudamore Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Bizarre really that this possibility is actually really exciting me as i've been of the opinion that he's past it for a few years now...Director of Football is a role that hasn't suited KK before but maybe with a little more experience under his belt he may be able to do it now...
jawillwill Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Michael Owen needs a new club does't he? Pulis can do exactly the same treatment table warming role to be honest. Costs less too.
dubai_phil Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Just to keep NickG & WSS happy here's one other minor nagging worry... Just supposing, IF Pinnacle weren't actually ready to finish everything off tomorrow, this would be an awfully predictable thing to leak 24 hours before possibly concerning news. But as I am sure that MLT had this as his #1 on his wish list I would think that unlikely, no doubt we'll all be dancing round the monitors when the completion press conference does a Lawrie Mac and brings KK into the room!
ben05 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Michael Owen needs a new club does't he? KK thinks lots of him we can dream
SaintRichmond Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Apparantly Illingsworth thinks that Wotte has as much experience of League 1 management as Keegan. Silly Nicky OK, before you ridicule NI, please tell me ...... what Clubs has Keegan managed in Div 1 ????

ericofarabia Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Michael Owen needs a new club does't he? But would he be happy with a role on the subs bench behind McGoldrick
kpturner Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 OK, before you ridicule NI, please tell me ...... what Clubs has Keegan managed in Div 1 ????What clubs has Wotte managed in Div 1?
smart_one Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 OK, before you ridicule NI, please tell me ...... what Clubs has Keegan managed in Div 1 ???? I thought it was Fulham and Man City.. but could be wrong...
Scummer Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 OK, before you ridicule NI, please tell me ...... what Clubs has Keegan managed in Div 1 ???? Fulham.
Foxstone Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 He will undoubtedly attract the supporters to attend in great numbers and similarly would attract players to stay or come here ! The feel good factor would be very great indeed ! However I still think there is more chance of Madonna giving a blow job to Gordon Brown in the middle of The Mall than KK coming here as manager.
saints_is_the_south Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 OK, before you ridicule NI, please tell me ...... what Clubs has Keegan managed in Div 1 ???? Fulham who he got promoted lol.
