SaintBobby Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Keegan is a man who doesn't need to work. He has his soccer school and doesn't need the pressure and hassle of football management. He left his beloved Newcastle after a short second stint and probably thought that would be it for him......Then this happens, it has been proved he has spoken to Matt and Leon, so for him to be interested in a league 1 side it must show the new owner has got some serious ambition. Keegan wouldn't come cheap and likes to have good financial backing when taking a team on. He must still have a love for the club if he is willing to talk. So there could be two outcomes, Keegan has had talks but felt it wasn't enough for him to return to football or this is a wonderful opportunity for him to take this club back to the premiership and make this his last job and finish his career on a high. If he does come to the Saints then the new owner may well be the white knight we have been looking for. I hope he is the new manager, but would say it's only about 50-50 ish. Maybe slightly more likely than not. I'd have imagined that Keegan and/or Pinnacle would have issued a denial by now if there wasn't some truth in it. My optimistic side says you're totally right that this shows serious finance and ambition by the new ownership, even if KK isn't appointed. My pessimistic side says that if this all turns up to be horsesh*t then we have a total farce on our hands (again).
SaintBobby Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Recent national newspaper coverage of Keegan and Saints. All of this is from yesterday. excpet the top Times article and the Express article. hypochondriac Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 I reckon it's Shearer with Kev in an ambassador type role
Saint in Paradise Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 OR even KK as manager and Mr D. Wise as director of football
chrisobee Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Look it's quite simple. Initially there was just The Football League (FL). Then FL split into 1 and 2, soon to be joined by 3S and 3N. The last two metamorphasised into 3 and 4. So now we had 1,2,3,4 - quite simple huh? But no! 1 wanted distance from lightweights 2,3 and 4 and so became "Premier League" (PL) enroute to "Premiership" (P). But P's plan was foiled as 2,3 and 4 simply became 1,2 and 3 respectively thus maintaining the same distance from P! 1 (the erstwhile 2) followed P's elitist lead and became CCC. Again 2 and 3 (previously 3 & 4) became 1 and 2 so completing the transition from 1,2,3,4 to P,CCC,1 & 2 -all of which was merely a series of rebranding exercises! In other words E=MC2 Sorry, this whole debate is cracking me up, what I am sure of is that KK has been a manager of a team in the 3rd tier of English football!!
Master Bates Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 One of the stumbling blocks holding back any Keegan appointment is he has yet to agree a compensation package with Newcastle following his shock exit in September after a dispute with St James' Park directors. ....
alehouseboys Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Well, Sky are still running with the story this morning, one of the main headlines and Saints featured prominently on the 'back-page' round-up, how long's it been since that happened?! You'd have thought that if it really were a non-starter Sky would've pulled back a bit by now as Le Tiss is one of their employees (tho', is he still?), surely they'd have spoken directly with him and got his approval? Anyways, this does look good...

Master Bates Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Kevin Keegan has dampened excited claims about him working at a smaller club with lesser resources even though he has had a troubled managerial career. Keegan said "I love big club football at clubs with a long and distinguished heritage and where you can be proud to put the shirt on." It comes as a blow at a time when a takeover is ongoing but Peter Storrie tried to hide his disappointment at Keegan's remarks. "We haven't made an official approach at Portsmouth and it seems our intentions were leaked to Kevin. Clearly had we realised he might be in discussions with a much bigger club like Southampton we would not have bothered approaching Kevin." "I know i speak for all in Portsmouth when i say a big club like Southampton should have a big manager like Kevin and it is an impressive partnership which will hopefully be very successful. Meanwhile we will keep talking to our dubious potential owners, try and stop our players leaving and try to find someone willing to manage us." http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A53394195

Andy Durman Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 It is interesting that there has been no denial of from KK he has had enough opportunity. I am beginning to believe that KK may well be our next manager.

offix Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 I just set that image as my wallpaper. Looking at it I just realized how much pride the combination of these two would bring back to this club.
chrisobee Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 One thing is certain and that even the possibility of KK as manager has prompted a tremendous reaction or in some cases an over reaction. Personally I think having Keegan at the club could only be good for us. The interest and excitement generated which will already be great as soon as the proposed take over takes place ( and we should not have long to wait now!) will only intensify and surely generate much positive publicitly. Let's not forget Keegan is one of the greats of English football and though I was unhappy as were many at the manner of his departure as a player in 1982 that's now ancient history. His managerial record is far better than many people tend to suggest and as for quitting when the going gets tough I doubt anyone other than those directly involved know the full facts behind that. What is sure is that if I were doing a job when I didn't need the money and it became too much hassle I'd leave too and anyone who said they wouldn't do the same would have to be liars or stark raving bonkers!
chrisobee Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 has he signed yet? Don't think so but it's definitely a possibility that may sign sometime soon or that he may not
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Based on your previous prediction I'll hold my breath thanks. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=311372#post311372 Just for the record. The WGS link to P*mpey is still ongoing. As their sale has not yet been agreed they are not in a position to appoint a new manager just yet. I spoke to somebody yesterday who said there is still a very good chance WGS will go there.

London Nick Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Times has the short list as KK, GS, Shearer and Curbs - also point out that the timing of the KK leak was highly suspicious attempt to leverage Fry into taking a lower bid
saintjay77 Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Times has the short list as KK, GS, Shearer and Curbs - also point out that the timing of the KK leak was highly suspicious attempt to leverage Fry into taking a lower bid If the players dont know who its going to be I bet they are not too keen on WGS taking over with pre-season about to start. Build up to start a hard week of training to find out at the last min its going to be at least 3 times harder than you thought lol WGS and KK in that list are the 2 that I think could bring some kind of success this season. with the others building slowly.
OldNick Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 the news that KK may have been asked is going to make it a damp squib if the manager is introduced and its Tisdale /Dowie ?cotterill etc. KK made some of the stayaways to actually get enthusiastic again, a manager withut that charisma wil just add to fans throwing their arms up and saying 'typical saints' They should have quosed the rumpurs straight away IMO as it may bite them for not doing so.

When's the announcement happening today? Surely it's not too late for Le Tiss to have a re-think and make Keegan his no.1 choice? All he's got to do is look at the (mainly) unified and galvanising reaction on here to change his mind? If u-turns are good enough for Gordon Brown then they're good enough for our Matt. Come on Matt - if you're going to be at the helm then now is the time for canny decision making! Unless, of course, your no.1 choice is even more of a crowd pleaser than Mr Keegan!!

OldNick Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Just had call from my son he was outside SMS and KK walked into the stadium with 5 other people he did not recogniseI think you should get your son and stick a picture under his nose of mervyn King and 1 of KK and show him the difference. Then give him a clip around the ear and send him to bed
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 So KK isn't coming. I hate to say it, but I told you! My source is usually spot on and it looks like he was correct again!

You come on and say stuff is definatly happening which quick as a flash doesnt happen, wont even hint at your source who if he/her exists is no more ITK that anyone else or is on a windup too and then get in a huffy puffy because I dared to critasize your word? lol most of the people that claim to be ITK learn the lesson that what they know is jack shiite.
Evo Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Maybe those that are "really ITK" get to be ITK because they can be trusted - i.e. they don't post every confidential snippet of information the receive on the Internet...
St Louis Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 I have just read this dampener on another Forum regarding KK, and the unlikelihood of his return (not a Sport Forum I might add): "It was on Talk Sport. Someone was talking to Alan Brazil and he said that it's been blown out of proportion. He reckons that Keegan visited Le Tissiers house and the builders who were working next door took photos and then sold them to Sky etc. I wish I could remember who was explaining it to Alan Brazil this morning." One of the things I like about this new group is that there have hardly been any leaks about what is or isnt happening. those that are close to the people concerned dont even know anything or at least have been told to keep quite, which they have. I must admit though, if I were someone at the top I would enjoy stitching up anyone that was leaking info by feeding them BS till they hang thems selves with it. Previous boards made up of conflicting parties were constantly leaking crap about each other and thats probably what made us concentrate so much on them rather than the football.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 19 June, 2009 Author Posted 19 June, 2009 It's on again on SSN, LIVE AT ST. MARY'S. Still talk of Keegan returning to management, and Le Tissier as chairman. They have said they are looking at 4pm/5pm until everything has been signed and only then can the deal be concluded. "I have heard from inside St. Mary's that it is the Football League that is slowing down the deal"
Master Bates Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 I have heard from a contact at the club, that a press statement is being made at 2.30pm today. But my source is not sure what the statement will be, but he has an inkling that it may be to say that all is going to plan and the Pinnacle Group have been granted an extension until Monday to conclude the deal. ........

Mark Denis told Alan Brazil that the pics came from Builders next door. How that means the meating between KK and MLT was or wasnt to do with the managers job or anything else is beyond me though. Fact is KK was spotted at MLT's house. Sky sports now report he has held discussions with MLT regarding how to take the club forward and it will be clearer when the take over is completed. Who took the photo means nothing though.

Johnny Shearer Posted 19 June, 2009 Posted 19 June, 2009 Seriously no one has a f**king clue as to what is/is not going on. Don't know why everyone is getting so excited but if thats what you want fair enough. However if something positive does happen of note I think I'll have a nice quiet pint tonight and relax.
