Breaking News: SKY SOURCES: CONSORTIUM BIDDING TO BUY SOUTHAMPTON HOLD TALKS WITH KEVIN KEEGAN.

"Keegan In Talks With Southampton"

"Big breaking news in the last 5 minutes, the consortium have been talking to Kevin Keegan"

Nick Illingsworth is currently being interviewed on Pinnacle's talks with Keegan, and they are talking in depth about the club's situation, and the supposed fact that Keegan may well be on his way here, if backed with money.

Illingsworth: "Without money, I can't see Keegan doing it, he needs to be able to buy Premiership, or Championship standard players"

"This could be the greatest day in the last 5 years, or just another false dawn"

This interview is going on for a fair time, and the yellow bar is going across at the bottom of the screen. I know there is a Keegan rumour thread but I thought I'd do this one as it is now breaking news on SSN.

they (pinnacle) would know he would only be worth having if backed with money, and would not hold talks with him surely unless they were backed with money

'If backed by money' I think that is not to be the case after reading others on here.

Even if there are no funds available to start. Keegans presence will see healthy crowds that should generate cash to dabble in transfers

That's basically what Nick Illingsworth said.

It's still going at the bottom of the screen, and they will most probably be repeating the Illingsworth interview throughout the day... It's all happening!

I think crowds would at first be greater, and with success only get larger.I want to keep a lid on it for my own sake as Im sick of my hopes being dashed time and again.

I just wish SSN could actually get to speak to KK and get confirmation as I assume NI knows only so much

I'll be happy with keegan - even if he just gets us out of League 1 then sods off. I don't think tactics come into it at this level so much. we have superior training facilities, our players should be at physically much fitter than players from Yeovil or Wallsall, simply because of the facilities and expertise at our disposal left over from our days in the Prem. Even if we're a goal down, we just need to do a Mohammed Ali and hang in there, when they're knackered after 70 mins we should still be fighting fit and can sucker punch them. But then I thought that about the Championship...

when will they realise that Nick Illingsworth is not considered to be the representative of saints fans. He just some tool with a rubbish supporters group.

Easy. As soon as someone either replaces him in the ST or puts a members group together which has larger support and wider appeal to saints fans.

Illingsworth basically covered all his bases...just in case it doesn't come off...which is fair enough...

but Nick...you could at least SOUND excited!!!

We won't need money - there are plenty of decent free transfer players around the Uk and the world who would love to be a part of a Keegan team. Like Gemmel says, big money will be generated just from gate receipts alone.

Gentlemen, whilst we must tread carefully, we are well and truly on our way back.

LOL!

Four minutes for righteous indignation at Nick. You are all too slow today.

This looks suspiciously like a "we will walk this league" post to me.

Lets be honest...all you need to get fit is a nice big open field to run around in. Most clubs have that.

I lost interest in what he was saying cause I couldnt understand half of what he said. lol.

Im no good at talking in public so if I was in that position I would get a spokesman ;)

If this goes through it signals so much more than just a new manager. It means we get possibly the best motivator thats available, a man with a a history of winning promotion with every club he has managed, a man who gets his teams playing positive, attacking football and perhaps most importantly a man who players want to play for.

It would also mean Pinnacle have some serious money behind them. Perhaps not of Man City of Chelsea proportions but enough for Keegan to feel comfortable he can do a job.

Could this be the first day of a new era of Southampton Football Club???

Soooooo, let me get this right. The "Sky Sports Sources" are probably just someone reading this forum or the UI, yeah?

'Sky Sources'! they read TSW too then ;)

Great minds!

No. SSN source is the Echo, who's source is probably just someone reading this forum or the UI!

To be fair though, I have never seen a Sky Sports News source actually ever be wrong, and I watch a lot of SSN.

Mmmm. As someone mentioned earlier, they ran the Paul Allen story! Never wrong?

Exciting times, but I'm trying not to get into hysterical mode.

I'll concede that a big-name manager could do a lot for us - attracting players being the most imprtant, but also boosting crowds.

When he came to us as a player he obviously developed a fondness for Saints and it was a happy and successful time. That had a lot to do with the whole setup of the club then, and for him to come now and be successful it is vital that the personnel and infrastructure around him are right. We've seen how things can go wrong with him in the wrong setting and without backing and support.

My main concern is whether he still has the tactical nous from years ago and the drive and appetite if things don't go well. We havent seen much evidence of it in his recent appointments.

But I'll stay positive and hope that, returning to grass roots and with backing, support and the love of a few fans, he can rekindle the flame.

P.S. IMHO I don't think he'll come.

They were not wrong. SFC were in talks with Paul Allen - he just got cold feet.
