RedAndWhite91 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Breaking News: SKY SOURCES: CONSORTIUM BIDDING TO BUY SOUTHAMPTON HOLD TALKS WITH KEVIN KEEGAN. "Keegan In Talks With Southampton" "Big breaking news in the last 5 minutes, the consortium have been talking to Kevin Keegan" Nick Illingsworth is currently being interviewed on Pinnacle's talks with Keegan, and they are talking in depth about the club's situation, and the supposed fact that Keegan may well be on his way here, if backed with money. Illingsworth: "Without money, I can't see Keegan doing it, he needs to be able to buy Premiership, or Championship standard players" "This could be the greatest day in the last 5 years, or just another false dawn" This interview is going on for a fair time, and the yellow bar is going across at the bottom of the screen. I know there is a Keegan rumour thread but I thought I'd do this one as it is now breaking news on SSN.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Yes still on they're breaking news bar! Lets hope its true!!!!
SaintNeil90 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 when will they realise that Nick Illingsworth is not considered to be the representative of saints fans. He just some tool with a rubbish supporters group.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 18 June, 2009 Author Posted 18 June, 2009 Please please please. My thoughts exactly.
OldNick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 'If backed by money' I think that is not to be the case after reading others on here.
eharty9 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 they (pinnacle) would know he would only be worth having if backed with money, and would not hold talks with him surely unless they were backed with money
Gemmel Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 'If backed by money' I think that is not to be the case after reading others on here. Even if there are no funds available to start. Keegans presence will see healthy crowds that should generate cash to dabble in transfers
Um Bongo Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 We've had talks with Keegan.....That's what Sky are sating anyway. More to follow now.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 18 June, 2009 Author Posted 18 June, 2009 'If backed by money' I think that is not to be the case after reading others on here. That's basically what Nick Illingsworth said. It's still going at the bottom of the screen, and they will most probably be repeating the Illingsworth interview throughout the day... It's all happening!
warsash saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I am await 19C to bring his wisdom to this thread & bring everybody down
OldNick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Even if there are no funds available to start. Keegans presence will see healthy crowds that should generate cash to dabble in transfers I think crowds would at first be greater, and with success only get larger.I want to keep a lid on it for my own sake as Im sick of my hopes being dashed time and again. I just wish SSN could actually get to speak to KK and get confirmation as I assume NI knows only so much
Genghis78 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I'll be happy with keegan - even if he just gets us out of League 1 then sods off. I don't think tactics come into it at this level so much. we have superior training facilities, our players should be at physically much fitter than players from Yeovil or Wallsall, simply because of the facilities and expertise at our disposal left over from our days in the Prem. Even if we're a goal down, we just need to do a Mohammed Ali and hang in there, when they're knackered after 70 mins we should still be fighting fit and can sucker punch them. But then I thought that about the Championship...
Doctoroncall Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 when will they realise that Nick Illingsworth is not considered to be the representative of saints fans. He just some tool with a rubbish supporters group. Easy. As soon as someone either replaces him in the ST or puts a members group together which has larger support and wider appeal to saints fans.
Channon's Sideburns Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 That's basically what Nick Illingsworth said. It's still going at the bottom of the screen, and they will most probably be repeating the Illingsworth interview throughout the day... It's all happening! Illingsworth basically covered all his bases...just in case it doesn't come off...which is fair enough... but Nick...you could at least SOUND excited!!!
Cabrone Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Wasn't going to get a ST this year but if KK comes then I'll have to reconsider.
Crab Lungs Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 We won't need money - there are plenty of decent free transfer players around the Uk and the world who would love to be a part of a Keegan team. Like Gemmel says, big money will be generated just from gate receipts alone. Gentlemen, whilst we must tread carefully, we are well and truly on our way back.

hugh Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 when will they realise that Nick Illingsworth is not considered to be the representative of saints fans. He just some tool with a rubbish supporters group. LOL! Four minutes for righteous indignation at Nick. You are all too slow today.

FairWeather Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 If true it will be nearly as big a coup as when we signed the then European Footballer of the year in 1980

skintsaint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I remember Paul Allen get splashed all over Sky News so not holding my breath until I see a Pic of KK holding up a Saints scarf at SMS
Pancake Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Soooooo, let me get this right. The "Sky Sports Sources" are probably just someone reading this forum or the UI, yeah?
saintjay77 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Illingsworth basically covered all his bases...just in case it doesn't come off...which is fair enough... but Nick...you could at least SOUND excited!!! I lost interest in what he was saying cause I couldnt understand half of what he said. lol. Im no good at talking in public so if I was in that position I would get a spokesman
rick1976.4.38 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 kk back as a saint, who would believe it,great news for us,maybe the club is on the right path at last,id have ince as his number2 for when he walks though, coyr
sambosa75 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 If this goes through it signals so much more than just a new manager. It means we get possibly the best motivator thats available, a man with a a history of winning promotion with every club he has managed, a man who gets his teams playing positive, attacking football and perhaps most importantly a man who players want to play for. It would also mean Pinnacle have some serious money behind them. Perhaps not of Man City of Chelsea proportions but enough for Keegan to feel comfortable he can do a job. Could this be the first day of a new era of Southampton Football Club???
Pancake Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Soooooo, let me get this right. The "Sky Sports Sources" are probably just someone reading this forum or the UI, yeah? 'Sky Sources'! they read TSW too then Great minds!
kpturner Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Don't get too excited. I have it on good authority that they want him to play, not manage!!
krissyboy31 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Soooooo, let me get this right. The "Sky Sports Sources" are probably just someone reading this forum or the UI, yeah? No. SSN source is the Echo, who's source is probably just someone reading this forum or the UI!
The9 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Please please please. ...don't let him anywhere near us. Thought I'd finish that for you.
LGTL Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 To be fair though, I have never seen a Sky Sports News source actually ever be wrong, and I watch a lot of SSN.
alpine_saint Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 If Keegan comes, will that encourage any of our players to stay that might otherwise leave ?
krissyboy31 Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 To be fair though, I have never seen a Sky Sports News source actually ever be wrong, and I watch a lot of SSN. Mmmm. As someone mentioned earlier, they ran the Paul Allen story! Never wrong?
Shroppie Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 (edited) Exciting times, but I'm trying not to get into hysterical mode. I'll concede that a big-name manager could do a lot for us - attracting players being the most imprtant, but also boosting crowds. When he came to us as a player he obviously developed a fondness for Saints and it was a happy and successful time. That had a lot to do with the whole setup of the club then, and for him to come now and be successful it is vital that the personnel and infrastructure around him are right. We've seen how things can go wrong with him in the wrong setting and without backing and support. My main concern is whether he still has the tactical nous from years ago and the drive and appetite if things don't go well. We havent seen much evidence of it in his recent appointments. But I'll stay positive and hope that, returning to grass roots and with backing, support and the love of a few fans, he can rekindle the flame. P.S. IMHO I don't think he'll come. kpturner Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Mmmm. As someone mentioned earlier, they ran the Paul Allen story! Never wrong? They were not wrong. SFC were in talks with Paul Allen - he just got cold feet.
