Frank's cousin Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 Bottom line- I trust that Matt believes he is doing the best for the club. If Matt believes this includes inviting Leon on the board because of his generous donation/loan then I back it. I don't love Crouch but I'm willing to forgive and forget. He is a successful businessman and I'm sure in some capacities he can be a valuable asset (just not in public ). Whatever some may think I have no personal issue with Crouch...just dont believe he has demonstrated enough understanding of how to run things as he was, also involved in the problems we faced... you cant hate someone for making mistakes...salthough I know some do, but you acn question whether its wise to continue down that road...as others did about Lowe etc and rightly so in their opinion. I dont think however ANYONE should be rewarded with a seat on the board for financila contributions whatever teh size or loan or gift if that postion is anything other than ceremonial - because in our current plight we need gifted and talented individuals who ae BEST we can get in growing football clubs with limited resources. saintjay77 Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 I agree. We really shouldn't be transfixed with who is in the boardroom. My hope for the season is that we forget that Leon and others are even there, except the occasional rallying call from that man MLT of course! Amen to that brother! Gingeletiss Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 I assume the 3 are LC MLT and LM. The new dawn is the same as the last dawn except one ray of sunshine The first person on this thread to 'assume' they know that LM is to be on the new board. Beer Engine Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 If Leon put up a substantial amount of cash to keep the club out of liquidation then he was obviously prepared to lose the whole lot rather than let our club die. No-one on this forum has done the same or anything like it - for that Leon deserves a place on the board for as long as he wants it. And whoever is manager, I will be supporting the new owner's commitment to our club by buying season tickets for me and four kids and I will make attendance compulsory. saintjay77 Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 Then why talk about lack of unity? If everyone is backing it then the fans will be united! Having any of the previous lot will leave the door wide open for feuds to carry on though. Everytime Crouch speaks out there is the risk of his words being incorrect or snipes about the previous regime. If the team dont do as good as we all would like or we dont head in the right direction the people who are against LC will be ready to have a pop and the old battles will continue. Having a club to support should buy the new boys a fair bit of time IMO and the first 6 months will be exciting. But then we will be in a fight to push for playoffs or to stay in the league. 1 will be easy to support while the other will be looking for reasons to blame. carljack Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 FFS! Firstly, none of us know the make up of the prospective board. Secondly, we came (and may still be) a gnats-knob of having NO CLUB! I am going to assume that MLT will do what he feels is best for the club. IF that includes having LC and/or LM on the board, then thats fine by me. I wanted a clean sweep and in a perfect world that would have happened, but ATM we seem to have a club - we seem to have Le God playing a major role - we will not have RL/MW - we MAY have KK as manager. Be grateful for these plusses. If you want perfection, don`t support Saints. Just WAIT and see what pans out. If you are unhappy with it,moan then! Well said that man! In the darkest hours of the last few months I have spent worrying whether or not MY SFC would continue to even exist I could never have dreamt of survival plus Le God plus K Keegan FFS,as for Leon Crouch just take a look at the Ted Bates statue when you are next at St Marys that was paid for by LC now I do not even know the guy but Actions speak louder than words it is a qulity piece of work unlike the deformed Jimmy Krankie that stood there before. I know I wouldnt have wanted Lowe back on the new board for any reason so I dont see why anyone else can buy there way on either? I dont really think that is why LC would have been invited on board as I dont think its how the new people make decissions. Would be gutted to be wrong on that one though. Well he had the same opportunity to do so and his silence has been deafening in our hour of need so.....mind you there is a massive difference granted in terms of the two. Its the same as having a shareholder on the board isn't it meaning they have bought shares to get on it....LC contributed to keeping us afloat. As I have posted before - generosity should always bring gratitude but not necessarily favour! If he is there on merit for what he can intelligently add to the board, then thats a matter for the new board and I will reluctantly accept that ! But I would still have preferred him not to have been offered a position of leadership at the club. Its not the wholly fresh start I was hoping for. Its the same as having a shareholder on the board isn't it meaning they have bought shares to get on it....LC contributed to keeping us afloat. Personally I think he should have been tied by the balls till he did stump up some cash and LC IMO only did what all of the previous lot should have done. I dont think LC should be rewarded in any way for it. 3 people doing the same job, 2 are scivers and get sacked and the other gets on with his job. He doesnt get a medal for it does he? The previous board was made up of seperate people that bought there way into position. That got us far didnt it

What kind of logic is that? Lowe didnt stump up cash so therefor its ok to support sommeone else for doing it? Hypothetical questions are there to put another point of view accross. IF Lowe had done the right thing and put his hand in his pocket it would have been no more than I expected him to do and I would not want him rewarded for it. So sticking with those rules I dont see why we should get happy clappy about Crouch and give him a place on the board for the same reason? Buying a place on the board as I have already said got us absolutly no-where fast last time so I was looking forward to having a single owner that chose employee's to do a job in and around SMS. I know very little about running a business which is why I am looking to make my fortune by winning the euro millions. But I guess once that happens I can pay a wedge and get a say in running the club the way I see fit right?

I dont think anyone is being Naive about how 'businesses work' - but I would suggest that the 'jobs-for-boys' approach and this favour rather than just gratitude is perhaps whats held some of our industry back - merit shoudl be the main priority... saintjay77 Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 Presumably you KNOW the answer to this or is this another "opinion as fact" type statement? ive stated several times that my word is nothing more than my opinion. I asked a question which would also suggest that I dont know the answer. I think that if the check was never cashed it was due to Lowe and Co's pride in that they couldnt stomach Crouch having the upper hand morally. There maybe another reason hence the ? at the end of my sentance

Gordon Mockles Posted 18 June, 2009 Share Posted 18 June, 2009 I cant understand how you are happy to have bakc those people who were a major part of where we are now. RL can also go and get stuffed by the way, he also is part of our inglorious recent history, but the crowd you would accept put us in the financial mire as much as him as they didnt react to the conditions at the time they were in charge. It was negligence IMO Change the record Nick! As many on the forum state, Crouch would only be on the board, not running the show. Besides, he's earned his seat (if so). He's done more for Saints and put more money into the club than Lowe and Wilde combined (without half the damage!) and he's shown he actually cares, unlike his predecessors (who were watching us burn while they warmed their hands). I would rather have Leon a million times than Dave Jones !! I do hope Dave jones is removed as soon as possible from his role when a new recruit is found.
