Games you wish you'd been sober at....

... FA Cup Final for me. I remember very little, patches of the train journey there, falling over onto the platform at Cardiff Central, and seeing Matt Le Tissier on the TV in one of the pubs.

 

..... the rest I had to remind myself of a few days later, watching the recording on Sky.

I don't know how people can watch saints stone cold sober nowadays. I like to spend a good few hours in the boozer before (and after) the game. It's usually by far the best bit of the day and also softens the blow of watching the inevitable 90 minutes of dog ****e that follows. I got lumbered into driving to palace away last season and hated every second of it...

I ended up driving a minibus to Reading last year, got the dates wrong and double-booked and had to be back for the missus best mates birthday bash.

 

Ended up spending almost 2 hours trying to find all of my completely wasted mates and still missed the birthday party.... so staying sober and still getting it in the neck on the way back. Rubbish.

 

The only other time I drove to a game last season was Derby, took three mates, luckily 2 of them got so wasted that they ended up getting nicked, that saved on petrol on the way home f'sure.

 

Driving to football does not work.

Sobered up when I realised 3 of our party out of 5 were guests in the Bradford nick including the driver. Sobered up even more when Mark Thompson and I bumped into 30 Bradford fans on a deserted Bradford railway station - I still have the scars!

I'd never wish to be sober at football!! On a serious note, i guess i was lucky that i wasn't at the drinking age during the games in the good days in the prem so i was a sober supporter up til about 2/3 years ago, since then most games are a complete blur which has probably been for the best!

i was with Jeff Osborne, Rich Edmunds, Mick Carter and i cannot remember others.

all i know is we left Castle at Midanbury closing time Friday night , had breakfast in Bradford and got completely rat a*sed, in fact it was probably a good thing the driver, whose name i have forgotten, was arrested.

Funny thing was the taxi driver got to Northampton and wanted us to get out, he mis understood destination, and could not speak a word of English.

I managed to control myself on Cup Final day as I didn't know how many more of them there would be in my lifetime.

 

I wish I was a bit more sober when we beat Wolves away 6-0, I can't really remember the 5th and 6th goals.

I got so p1ssed at Fratton Park in 2005 I tried to get on the pitch, I was dragged out by 12 of the men in orange and spent the next few hours locked up

it never happened to me but after the Fulham away game in the promotion season in 78.

we went into Soho and then got a very late/early Saturday morning train home.

At least 20 of us had the train to ourselves and spread out in the carriages to have a kip

when we got off at the Central Station to walk home at least 3 were missing.

They ended up in Weymouth and had to fork out for the excess fares and trip back to Southampton.
