niceandfriendly Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 You never need any excuse to post videos like that.
the scud Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 That free kick against wimbledon was fantastic true Southampton legend
thorpie the sinner Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Cheers nick! That bloke almost brings me to tears, true true legend !!

thorpie the sinner Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 I have never been called a true legend before, thanks;) tbf Nick, if you really are MLt in disguise, then you are a true legend lol!!!!!
sambosa75 Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Loved the video without the commentary, brought back memories of being there. I was there two witness 7 of those goals in the flesh... Be interesting to see if there is anyone who can genuinely claim the full house!

sambosa757 Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 All the ones at home actually! In fairness I was probably aged between 11-16 in this period but did see him score some crackers away from home as well. Wimbledon x 2 Newcastle x 3 Man Utd THAT goal v Arsenal. Happy days.
Manuel Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Genuine question from someone who wasn't lucky enough to be watching Saints in that era and has never seen LeTiss play. Many of those goals were from some distance away and a couple RIGHT in the top corner, I've seen a few times watching these videos the quick flick to get the ball airborne that he seemed to like before he cracked it. Was it usual for him to have a crack from distance? Was that his style? If so, did he miss plenty too, or was it almost expected that if he got a bit of space infront of goal, something would happen?
SimonRichards Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Apart from his fantastic goals. This is another reason why MLT is my Hero
Thedelldays Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Ho, how I miss those nights at the Dell. agreed i am so thankful i saw most of those live
NickG Posted 17 June, 2009 Author Posted 17 June, 2009 trying to remember a game when thought he was at his best, think it may have been Norwich at home, midweek game - included jinking run from one end to the other??
Redondo Saint Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 We may have fallen upon hard times, but at least we have these memories. I don't think Norwich or Charlton (and most other clubs) can look back at having one player that made such a difference.
Matthew Le God Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 I made this one with a nice Southampton(The Delays)/football focus related soundtrack
um pahars Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Truly wonderful. I don't think any Club's fans, with the possible exception of United and Cantona, can say they have experienced such spectacular goals from one player over a prolonged timeframe in recent years. Who else is there who could hold a candle to him??? Cantona at United Henry at Arsenal Wright at Arsenal Gerrard at Liverpool (some spectacular goals, but not the range) Shearer at Newcastle (see gerrard above) Di Canio at West Ham (only there for 4 years) Not bad company IMHO

Where he scored a hat-trick? Where "Milky" Moore scored the best goal of the game? Cracking game by all accounts, as I was not present myself

yellow&blue Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Great video - pity about the really poor crowd over-dub....................

Was it usual for him to have a crack from distance? Was that his style? If so, did he miss plenty too, or was it almost expected that if he got a bit of space infront of goal, something would happen? well, I always remember going to West Ham on the last day of one season (around 95 or 96).... Saints were awarded a free kick (as it turned out when I saw it back on Tv, around 35 yards out). The travelling army were celebrating "goal" before the wall had even been set. Free kicks anywhere in that range seemed to be the same as a pen!! With "Lookiing for eric" being topical, MLT could just have easily left a similar mark in a club the size of Man U. Many a fan of a rival team appreciate and remember Matt equally highly I guess looking back, it really is amazing that he was a saint through and through. I guess too it is also equally sobering in light of where we find our club now.
saintwarwick Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Proud to say that I saw ALL them goals live Jammy basket, my forces career meant I only got to see a limited amount of games but I did get to see a couple of those. Thank christ for DVD's, youtube etc. One thing for certain I will never tire of watching these cracking goals.

I am going to have to mind out because my optomistic tendencies will become uncontrollable and I will be making bold predictions like we will walk this league, irrespective of how many points they wish to take from us! D'oh! :-)

Was it usual for him to have a crack from distance? Was that his style? If so, did he miss plenty too, or was it almost expected that if he got a bit of space infront of goal, something would happen? matty was a genius...sure there were games (not many) when he went missing (and i mean not many) but what he did for this club is something that will never happen again on the field... man u wanted him, chelsea very nearly signed him for a national transfer record, matt turned it down at the last min... he would always try the crazy with the ball and would ghost past players effortlessly (and he he was not the fastest). one of the greatest travistys in english football in the 90's was the fact matty only played for england 7 times...an abolute joke. what was (and it was) englands loss was well and truely our gain.. who else remembers that england B game.. matty scored 3, hit the woodwork twice and was captain.. he tore russia apart. yet that was not enough to get him into the england squad, yet the likes of ripley, wilcox, carlton palmer did... a joke. other teams and their fans gave matt loads of stick during games as they knew that at any moments he could score from anywhere and many many times he did..
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Not only a sublime football player and loyal servant to the club, but also a great personality. His comments in this video (and the rest of it) are pretty amusing;
Saint Cupelix Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfpP3zOfEPs&feature=fvw Here is some more of his goals for those of you not around during his time. I on the other hand am great full for having seen some of these wonderful goals first hand.

OldNick Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 I cant believe his goal at the Kop end when he made Mark Wright look a fool wasnt in there. i know it is hard to put all his great ones in but it was because where it was as well as how he good a goal it was
oldsarum Posted 18 June, 2009 Posted 18 June, 2009 Proud to say that I saw ALL them goals live Ditto can particularly remember the Blackburn supporters all applauding his goal there and me getting strange looks from the Villa fans in the stands when I cheered his goal there from the safety of an executive box
