Nah, It sounds on a par with Doncaster away and that was without doubt one of the most boring away trips ever.

Are you kidding? That was one of the highlights of the season!

You clearly didn't make the effort to make it a good day out.

Right flying people, we appear to have a problem...

Last train out of Hartlepool back to Newcastle is 21:00, and the first one out on Wednesday morning isn't until 07:03, which is too late for flights back in the morning.

Any bright ideas as to how to get around this?

Hire a car :/

im going to swindon on a tues (peed me off a little i might add)

not as hardcore, but then im a woofter (alledgedly)

I've done Hull and Newcastle on Tuesday nights. Swindon will be a piece of piddle compared to that!

I'm thinking driving is just going to make so much more sense in organisational and financial terms, despite it being one hell of a trek!

If enough are going by plane, hire a car/SUV between you from Newcastle Airport.

That's looking the best bet right now.

We'd only need it the one way - we've just been discussing looking into how much a taxi might cost as well...

Saying that, if car hire there and back will be cheaper than train there and taxi back, it'll make more sense. Something to be thinking about anyway. I'll have a nosey at car hire, see what I can find.

How far is from hartlepool to newcastle as will be flying into newcastle and plan to have a night out there hopefully they will have buses running as it appears there is no trains after the game

About 30 miles - the train journey is about 45 minutes, but last one leaves Hartlepool at 21:00, so no good for anyone wanting to head back that way!

Not really an issue for me - not that far away at all...just north of Middlesborough and across a bit.

PS Don't come dressed as a monkey as they might hang you!

Should be nicknamed the "Monkey Hangers" - after stringing one up thinking it was a French spy during the Napoleonic period of hostilities. Strange folk in that neck of the woods...all those big clubs around them and still support Hartlepool, bit like Saints fans I suppose?

I was going to suggest a 9 seater or a couple of them to get us to Hartlepool and back or even a 9 seater taxi which could work out even cheaper if only one trip i.e. return to Newcastle.

It would be interested in the car hire/taxi malarky. I am waiting until we actually have a club to fulfil the fixtures before booking my flights - just in case!

Matt I agree not booking anything until the ink is dry, cost from Soton to Newcastle at the moment is approximately £60, presume you would be flying from Bristol though.

Thought there might be a problem with trains back to Newcastle but hadn't bothered to check.

Can't really be bothered to hire a hotel or drive up there so might just give Hartelepool a miss now, Carlisle will probably be a lot less hassle.

Intend being in Hartlepool. Hacked off about Swindon, can't get home from there on the night according to National Rail.

How are you getting to Hartlepool?

What's the issue with Swindon? Getting back out of London?

Hope they don't mind you + 3 others from the lunatic fringe dossing on their floor ;)

Haven't told them yet but it will be cool trust!

Hartlepool will be an overnighter.

22.28 from Swindon (previous one is an hour earlier) gets into Paddington at something like 23.40. National Rail doesn't show the connection with last train to Epsom at 0015. A bit tight but should be ok if train isn't delayed.

If you are going to Wimbledon you're fine.

Guess we can actually consider booking things for Hartlepool now!

Just looked at Hartlepool now Carlisle is sorted cheapest to fly which works out with taxes £62.00 per person return from Southampton to Newcastle but need an overnight stay as well.

Well it's looking like I've got the Tuesday and Wednesday off work now, so I'm seriously considering driving it - cheapest option by far for us (even more so if anyone else wants to tag along!) and we've got the flexibility to stay where we want overnight and use one of our Reward Nights with Holiday Inn which will make our stay FOC.

Total cost (if I end up using two complete tanks of petrol) circa £80 total. £40 each (if it is just the two of us) is a bargain compared to £60 each for flights plus hotel plus transport between Newcy and Hartlepool. Job done, me thinks.

I really think that the club should do the free away trip voucher again in the ST's for something like this game on a Tuesday night and so far away, so David if you are reading this let us know if there are any plans.

Spoke to a cab firm in Hartlepool, for 4 people in a normal car back to Newcastle is £35 (£8.75 each), or 8 people in a people carrier / mini bus thing is £50 (£6.25), about a 45 min drive they reckon. Not to bad an option to make a night out of it rather than staying in Hartlepool.

I definitely hope to be at the Hartlepool game... but then it will be the nearest Saints fixture of the season for me as I live just outside Darlington!!

In terms of what Hartlepool is like, I have never actually been there. I believe it is a hole in parts but then again there is the historic quayside, which is supposed to be quite nice. In that sense it's like an upmarket P*rtsm*uth!!!

You might like to bear in mind that Darlington and Hartlepool are sworn enemies (a bit like Saints and P*mpey) so there would be a fairly warm welcome in Darlo if you were to stop off here.

In terms of flights, it is quite difficult flying to Durham-Tees airport (which is actually in Darlington!) You can only get flights from there to Aberdeen, so you would have to fly up to Aberdeen then back down from there! Newcastle is a bit further but at least you should be able to get a direct flight.

The nearest places to Hartlepool with a major nightlife are not Newcastle and Durham as someone seemed to suggest. Middlesborough is much closer, as is Stockton; or there's Sunderland if you're into Chav music!

Yarm is also fairly popular despite being only a small town (though personally I don't see it's appeal, but each to their own!). There's quite a few places in the town and then there's Tall Trees (http://www.talltrees.co.uk), which has regular events (see for example: http://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Yarm/Tall-Trees). Some of the Middlesbrough players have been known to hang out there, though if they are going out for a quiet meal out they are more likely to be found at Judges, which is also nearby (http://www.judgeshotel.co.uk).

Really what a game to pick hope you make yourselves known to the rest of us, most probably cheaper for you to fly over than it is for us to fly up from here.
