Keegan as Manager? Rumour or truth

Yep...but those were great times to be a Saints fan....which was the point I was trying to make....

Agreed ...... I also remember those great times ......as I recall, had it not been for Morans dodgy back, we would have Won the League, instead of being 3 points short .......

Anyone else think that Illingsworth was just trying to cover himself when answering those questions?

So in the future whatever happens, he can say 'I was right'?????

Comparing Wotte (who btw I would like to see stay) and Keegan is just madness....I get his point over budgeting, but Keegan's Fulham side was NOT made up of £1M players....

Seem to remember ****erill, Kev Moore, Martin Thomas etc were involved...perhaps overhanging from the Branfoot era there...but come on...surely if we RETAIN players like Kelvin and Rasiak it's the same as signing £1m players??

I for one would be well chuffed with KK!! Well chuffed!

Coincidence ????

All those years ago, Lawrie McMenemy unvieled Keegan as a Saints PLAYER...

Now, 2009, Keegan may be unvieled as the Saints MANAGER ...... IMHO, I would suggest Lawrie Mac being involved somewhere along the line ....

QUALITY COSTS MONEY

Kelvin IS a Quality keeper ... How much to REPLACE ??? (Like for Like)

Rasiak IS a lazy git etc etc ... BUT HE SCORES GOALS .... How much to REPLACE ??? (Like for Like )

With the new dawn, we MUST have players of that quality IF we are to start moving upwards again

First sign of criticism more like it and as we are all so loyal and supportive he would be lucky to make October.

Keegan will be fine as long as he has a decent right hand man/assistant manager. The good news is that even if he is successful it is unlikely he would leave us for someone else, since he has been in most of the top jobs already, I think only us and Scunny would tempt him out of managerial retirement.

SSN Just confirmed that he lives in Hampshire! FACT!

;)

My claim to fame:

KK very nearly bought one of my dad's houses. This was around the time my dad built Mick Channon's house near Fair Oak and Peachy lived in the same road as my dad.

'Twas a long time ago TBF but the best I can offer on the 'where does KK live' debate.

bit of a long winded very thin claime to fame but my dad bought the house off of some celebraty hair dresser bod way back when KK was with us. Supposedly this was the house for numerous parties which KK and others attended.

Makes me smile to walk through thinking that KK may have once walked through the same rooms. And I dont want to find out if its utter bunkum either lol

Donny Rovers perhaps seeing as he is an Armthorpe lad.

When (His) Team are winning, he's fine ..... (most people would be)

But when results go against him, and he has to MANAGE, he disintegrates like a cardboard box in a thunderstorm ........

NOT the one for me, I'm afraid ....... (so therefore he's a nailed on certainty)

Just go to Wikipedia, it's available free on the net, and check how many games he has won wherever he's been manager. Apart from with England his record is exceptional.

We can only dream of a manager with Keegan's record.

No chance.

Take Newcastle - who achieved their highest ever league finish?

People who believe the media cobblers about Keegan and his 'failure' never cease to amaze me.

All the information is freely available to all the world.

On results, he is one of the country's top managers.

When football is played in the Daily Mirror and the Sun I will start to listen to them, until then I think I'll trust the wins and promotions...

I spent some time in the company of Trevor Mitchell's son a while back whilst abroad and he could hardly manage a sentence without squeezing in a Keegan reference.

I can't believe there is anyone who is negative about the Keegan possibility.

The worst that can be said is that he has occasionally been temperamental.

But - look - he is a manager of great quality, and has probably only been omitted from the "who do you want?" polls because it was considered impossible to get him.

...or...passionate.

To get a manager of KKs ability in this division, starting on minus 10 points!, would be a coup of 1980 proportions. It would be an unbelievable moment for this club.

I would stress this is a strong rumour only, but have heard dowie has agreed to be 1st team coach & that he will be working with either keegan or shearer as manager if pinnacle can complete.

Works for me.

Any idea what time tomorrow we should hear something?

Is Trevor's still going? I used to get my hair cut there. I stopped going when they said that I didn't have enough hair to cut. I was 17.

This would be fantastic either way. Shearer or Keegan as Manager with Dowie as First-Team Coach would give us fans a massive lift. All have past connections with the club, and it would be great to have real football people running the club both at Boardroom level and on football matters too. Still, I will remain cautiously optimistic until I see everything finalised on the OS. Don't think we should get too ahead of ourselves just yet!

exactly how I feel. What a shot in the arm that would be. The club is desperately in need of a change of momentum and KK would offer just that. Obviously it doesn't mean we will suddenly become successful, but at a time when we are extremely fragile and there is still a genuine risk that we could go down next season we can start considering Saints in a positive light at last. I just wonder also if players like Surman and Lallana might think twice before taking moves?

True, but possibly sounding him out (may be during a golf day) is different than interviewing him or offering him the job.

That's what I heard happened weeks ago, with KK turning it down for what ever reason. Whether he has had a change of heart I have no idea, but from from Pinnacles denial it looks a no no and all this is just a rehash from the preliminary approach, which has all been put to bed?

Ah...cheers!

re: your location conundrum.... "Getting the Killer Attack Tortoises into shape"....I've got the 'Keegan' part but can't get the rest...any clues? :)

Little buggers were a hive of activity quaffing down extra bananas and double cucumber portions, pumping a few weights and doing the rock climb maze, now they seem to have gone and bloomin well inverse hybernated, just when they were needed.

There is a technical Tortoise term for it - hybernating when it hits +45C rather than the -45 up your way.

So you missed the other one? - bending down very low to find something that wasn't all that much use first time around then

Clue, it wasn't stooping down it was more "hidden dragon" ish, but hey only a day ahead of the press - it's actually just the time difference you see

TSW tour contiunues apace this evening, Seaview was rocked, Bullfrogs & Jaegers were quaffed so just a quiet one tonight, and BOY is there a load of dirt on Nickh's team talks and tactics

Keegan "not having tactical nous" is a myth perpetuated by the media, imo. He was a far better manager than anyone Newcastle has had in the last five years, and the 4-3-3 he introduced towards the end of 2007/2008 was a stroke of tactical genius if anything.

not sure which thread to put this on!

very surprised that this is true but it shows three things

1) ambition of club

2) finances - he isn't cheap

3) attraction of working for MLT.

I have heard KK is very keen, but he might not be the first choice! Also he has re-emplyment conditions from leaving Newcastle
