Keegan as Manager? Rumour or truth

Recommended Posts

The quality of players he has at this very moment won't matter... neither will it matter if he has any money or not. The simple fact is people want to play for Kevin Keegan and because of that, he will attract the very best players available to us as a club, budget permitting.

This league does not require tactical nous, it requires grafters who are motivated by their manager. KK is a motivator and people will run through brick walls for him. He is the kind of person who can lead us right back up to the Premier League on a wave of optimism, and give this city and this club the buzz that has long since deserted it. He will unify everyone, even if there are doubters now.

No matter what people say about him, he is a good football manager and is honest enough to know his limitations.

He could turn this club around big style and if any of you think otherwise, well... :o

Now ain't that the truth.

As with all these rumors it is difficult to gauge the amount of truth in this story but if Pinnacle want to get off to a flyer appointing KK as manager would be the best possible thing they could do. IMO it would double the season ticket sales and probably up last years gate average by 100%. Keegan would be a fantastic coup second time around , I cannot emphasize enough what it did for the club when LM got him the first time and I think MLT as Chairman & KK as Manager would rocket us back into the limelight.

Go do it Tony & Matt , You know you want to.

Most people would have second homes in London, Scotland, deepest darkest Wales or the like, true to form for MLT, Ringwood......20mins from his 1st home, lazy fc uker

 Never put it past him!

Not that it's really important, but I think the "ringwood" property was sold in the last few months.

If Keegan was intalks with MLT I would think it would be somewhere neutral.

I would be delighted if he was the manager. Would be the type of guy we would need. Knows the area, knows what the club means to us and is a Saints legend. Im sure he would do very well for us. And if MLT is chairman he will not interfere in that side ala Lowe/Ashley etc.

But i think in reality he would not want the job. Someone i know spoke to him at a works event a few months ago and asked him who he would like to manage next and he said he can't see himself managing again. Has other things like a soccer school which brings him more joy.

But as he always said prior to going back to Newcastle you never know in football. Someone could see us as a challenge they might be interested in.

But i just can't see it. Would be awesome if he did!

Dear Tony/MLT,

If you're reading this thread and admiring the harmony and excitement being generated by the prospect of Keegan becoming our manager then one suggestion.....if he's not already 'your man' then you might want to get on the blower to Mr Dunstone tonight to enact 'plan B'!

Super, super Kev; Super, super Kev; Super Kevin Keegan :)

Regards,

Trousers

But that would mean calling WGS and calling the whole thing off with him!

he didn't exatly spend money very wisely ast newcastle did he, look at some of the cack he got there, in fact i can;t think of one good signing.

Yes we can;t get picky but there must be better options, and would he stay that long, not sure his heart is still in the game unless its going to be newcastle, plus could be very high wages

Shearer?

Kevin Keegan is a big name manager, and ex Englnad manager, and he would give the club a lift.

If we cannot get keegan we should go for another big name manager.

Given that Matt Le Tissier despises Hoddle you are out of luck.

Actually I can see it happening. I really don't think he would take on any other management job, I'm sure he's finished with top flight stuff, but maybe a whirl with a lower league team that he has connections with where there is not so much pressure - I think only us or Scunny would fit that particular bill. I seriously doubt it will happen, but its not beyond the realms with Matt and Lawrie involved.

You probably want to re-tract that statement. Considering he had little or no control over Newcastle's signings the 2nd time around, the first time around the majority of his signings were pretty inspired to be honest.

Phillipe Albert, Pavel Srnicek, Rob Lee, Les Ferdinand, Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Peter Beardsley, Keith Gillespie, David Ginola, David Batty... the list does go on if I was to start thinking about it. In my opinion, that displays a pretty damn good eye for a player.

With regard to staying long, what manager in the past 5 years or so has? I'd rather have a couple of years with someone like Keegan who has the ability to galvanise the club and city, excellent track record with promotions, motivate the squad and attract even better players for a couple of seasons and see where we ended up than 5+ years of mediocrity under someone totally uninspiring like Steve Cotterill.

Thanks for that. The best goal ever right from the beginning. All 17 passes.

In 1981 Lpool were the current Man Utd/Chelsea/Arsenal/Lpool teams all rolled into one. All snotty, annoying glory supporters supported Lpool cos they were the best. Still my most hated team which makes this goal all the much better.

As for Keegan for manager? Yes please. I have happy memories of him in a Saints shirt. Good enough for me.

Plus I've heard of him and know how to say his name properly.

Actually thinking of Keegan memories then one of my favs is quite recent. Was anyone else in The Itchen at MLT's testimonial when Keegan gave that kid his shirt and told him to put it on and get out on the pitch?

Was classic. Keegan came over for a throw or whatever and was puffing a bit. Took off of his shirt and just gave it to some random kid at the front. That was cool enough but then telling him to get out on the pitch was quality. Fair play to the kid as well - he didn't think twice and ran onto the pitch straight into the action. The shirt dwarfed him - was funny as hell if you saw the whole thing...

I think other people in the ground thought it was MLT's kid or something - it wasn't.

Anyone know the kid in question? He certainly had a story to tell the next day...

The kid in question was one of the ballboys, I was stewarding at that time and was nearest steward to it quality moment!!

After hearing it last night in the last hour I have had 4 texts and 2 phones calls saying the same thing? Keegan was at MLT's house yesterday in Ringwood for 2 hours discussing a contract? Would you be happy KK as I know I would

Were they discussing him being manager or offering him a different role ?

Le Tiss will no doubt want football people around him, if it is rumoured that he will be chairman.

How about Le Tiss as chairman, Keegan in a director of football kind of role and Shearer/Strachan as manager.

Two reasons why this thread is a load of over the top sensationalist bo11ox. If Keegan becomes manager at THIRD DIVISION Southampton, I will eat my todger.

Kevin Keegan...........give me strength.
