Saint Billy Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 For all those saying KK would walk, what do you think Ince or anyone else will do if they are successful with us? It's unfortunately the nature of the game these days. Yes KK wears his heart on his sleeve, and yes he can throw his toys out the pram, but if you care to delve a little deeper, some of the reasons he has walked are justified, eg, last stint at Newcastle, having Dennis Wise installed as DOF and undermining KK's position. England, Man C, Newcastle, not many managers last long in those jobs. I am doubtful if he would come here now but if he did it would create such a buzz and feel good factor just like it did when he joined us as a player, not to mention the fact that he has a wealth of managerial experience to offer us. OldNick Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 and part of the best team we ever had. In terms of results you are quite correct, but if you ask anyone who watched Saints when Keegan played us, it was in that period that we played the highest quality football we've ever played in my lifetime IMO (and i'm 50). During that period I went to home games not wondering if we'd win but wondering by how many goals, fans were dissapointed with a 1-0 win. It was all out attack week in week out. The 83/84 season, when we got to the the semi final and were runners up in the league was great (especially the Cup run beating Pompey etc.), but for all out entertainment the Keegan years have never been beaten. In those terms i suppose you may be right although the football with Bowyer and mcDougal were just as exciting. In fact we were probably better at home then. Ps You old g## im not 50 til November
once_bitterne Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 and part of the best team we ever had. No he wasn't that came after he left and Shilton joined. To be fair, most of the jobs he had left were no great suprises. he said the England job was termpary and stayed longer than he planned. Newcastle the 2nd time was a mess from top to bottom and the 1st time was probably the only time things got too much for him. If he wants to get back into management then i cant see why coming to us would be a bad thing for him and us. Almost a no lose situation as anything slightly higher than survival will be seen as a positive. Also I would rather see the return of KK than Shearer

Exactly the same for me....I don't think I have ever seen a team performance like the one against Ipswich at home and can still see Armstrong weaving his way through their defence for the winner. Awesome team.

forever a red and white Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 he didn't exatly spend money very wisely ast newcastle did he, look at some of the cack he got there, in fact i can;t think of one good signing. Yes we can;t get picky but there must be better options, and would he stay that long, not sure his heart is still in the game unless its going to be newcastle, plus could be very high wages

Pip Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 The consortium say that they have a five year plan to get us up to the Prem. They also want stability so this makes sense to me. There's no point in getting a tried and tested L1 manager and then dropping him after a couple of seasons and having to recruit again if we get near the Prem. Keegan is tried and tested in the top few leagues, has contacts and enthusiasm. If he's keen on the job he'll be going in with his eyes open. If they can get him I think it will say a lot about their plans for the club.

Hopkins Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 Agree totally with the person who said appointing Keegan would smack of an Ashley like judgement. It would need serious financial backing if we did appoint Keegan. I would prefer alot of other people, but if we did have Keegan, the next season (and how many he stays for) would be a laugh. We'd have some ups and downs but it would be quite enjoyable going to games knowing were either going to stuff a team or get stuffed ourselves. Can't see it happening though because it doesn't match with Pinnacles claim of a 5 year plan. Appointing Keegan will never be an appointment for a long term mission. More of a few years of massive risks and ups and downs which could end up with us somewhere near the premiership again. It could also end up with us completely ****ed after 6 months. Wildgoose Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 The quality of players he has at this very moment won't matter... neither will it matter if he has any money or not. The simple fact is people want to play for Kevin Keegan and because of that, he will attract the very best players available to us as a club, budget permitting. This league does not require tactical nous, it requires grafters who are motivated by their manager. KK is a motivator and people will run through brick walls for him. He is the kind of person who can lead us right back up to the Premier League on a wave of optimism, and give this city and this club the buzz that has long since deserted it. He will unify everyone, even if there are doubters now. No matter what people say about him, he is a good football manager and is honest enough to know his limitations. He could turn this club around big style and if any of you think otherwise, well... Totally agree

St_Tel49 Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 Anyone who wouldn't want KK here needs sectioning. He was our biggest ever signing and part of the best team we ever had. It's also absurd to question his tactical nous as a manager. Just look for a second at his cv and see the promotions he has acheived. You don't do that if you are tactically inept. With respect OB I don't think that someone disagreeing with you is a case for sectioning. The fact is that KK has had success in the lower league but he was, in relative terms, well resourced to do it. Likewise his success at Newcastle came with the expenditure of a fair amount of money. (Like Redknapp but straighter). Unless Pinnacle are going to finance a spending spree I do not feel KK is the right manager for us.

Rut Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 Yeah, this goal's not too shabby; Thanks for that. The best goal ever right from the beginning. All 17 passes. In 1981 Lpool were the current Man Utd/Chelsea/Arsenal/Lpool teams all rolled into one. All snotty, annoying glory supporters supported Lpool cos they were the best. Still my most hated team which makes this goal all the much better. As for Keegan for manager? Yes please. I have happy memories of him in a Saints shirt. Good enough for me. Plus I've heard of him and know how to say his name properly. Actually thinking of Keegan memories then one of my favs is quite recent. Was anyone else in The Itchen at MLT's testimonial when Keegan gave that kid his shirt and told him to put it on and get out on the pitch? Was classic. Keegan came over for a throw or whatever and was puffing a bit. Took off of his shirt and just gave it to some random kid at the front. That was cool enough but then telling him to get out on the pitch was quality. Fair play to the kid as well - he didn't think twice and ran onto the pitch straight into the action. The shirt dwarfed him - was funny as hell if you saw the whole thing... I think other people in the ground thought it was MLT's kid or something - it wasn't. Anyone know the kid in question? He certainly had a story to tell the next day...
Lord Duckhunter Posted 16 June, 2009 Share Posted 16 June, 2009 He would put another 10,000 on the first home game of the season. Bring all the media and spotlight on us for the first game. There are'nt too may Managers in the game who can do that. His record at this level is there for all to see and if Pinnicle are serious about getting him in, there must be some serious money behind them.
