Jeff Le Taxi Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 http://www.speedtest.net/ Im on 10meg but noticed this varies greatly according to time of day etc.
Barfy Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 I'm at work so: ping = 19ms down = 26.35Mb/s up = 20.78Mb/s My home speeds also vary quite a bit, between 6am & 7pm they roughly range from: ping = 40ms - 60ms down = 5.5Mb/s - 2.5Mb/s up = 0.4Mb/s - 0.3Mb/s I've put that down to moving from a 20:1 contention ratio (freedom2surf/tiscali/talktalk) to a standard 50:1 connection (Sky) though as previously download speeds were hitting 7Mb/s at off peak times with an average of around 4Mb/s
Mole Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 I expected no better. It's the price one has to pay for not living in an urban slum.
Pancake Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 (edited) Meh. EDIT: Actually, seeing as Im paying for a 4Meg line, Im pretty happy with that. Edited 16 June, 2009 by Pancake
JustMike Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 download 75.47 upload 85.48 shame thats my work speed..my home is more like down - 5 and up 2
saint_stevo Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 the higher the ping the longer the info is taking to get back, so lower is better
Hatch Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 Download 1.57 mbs Upload 0.39 mbs Is it better to have a low or high number???? No idea what this means. Oh, and PING was 182 miles per hour.
Mole Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 The lower the speed the more desireable the location. I don't expect to lose top spot.

Robsk II Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 Not a great time of day to try it, to be fair, and there are four users, but it's not a problem.
Barney Trubble Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 Is that any good? I had a free upgrade according to Virgin but that doesn't mean anything to me. Could someone explain it as what's upload 0.24 and ping 71ms?
Thedelldays Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 9.56 mb and i pay for 10mg...spot on then i guess
Ponty Posted 16 June, 2009 Posted 16 June, 2009 Just seen that BT fixed line rentals are going up by £5 a year to subsidise the costs of laying fibres so everyone can enjoy high-speed broadband. Thanks you guys.

Mole Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 That's s**t.... FFS, you've just knocked me off top spot. Given that you live in Southampyon (and not the unspoilt english countryside) i can only conclude your PC is riddled with vuruses.
Redbul Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 FFS, you've just knocked me off top spot. Given that you live in Southampyon (and not the unspoilt english countryside) i can only conclude your PC is riddled with vuruses. You may be right, the PC is getting on a bit and the kids have always used it....So s0d a system restore, I've been planning a clear out and clean install for a while, good a time as any to do it!!!!
St Landrew Posted 17 June, 2009 Posted 17 June, 2009 Just run a super duper Nortons full scan and I can confirm that my PC is in tip top condition again. Yes, now it's only Norton itself that is making it run in treacle.
