Why is it so important to them, it almost seems like an actual religion

Police are guarding MS Dhoni's house, scores of fans are burning his effigy whilst chanting death threats, and now Dhoni has apologised to the nation, asking for India's forgiveness for his mistakes!

Ok, India has a passion for Cricket and it's no surprise that these things have happened. No wonder David Lloyd said "Look out India if you lose!". However, as to why they go to these extremes it is hard to say though with a population of over one billion I guess they have a large number of fanatics who take it too seriously.
