  1. Agree with 1-6 7.Miracles do happen ask Leicester City fans. Saints almost won the league in 1982,Keegans back injury was a factor in why we didn't.Keegan subsequently moved to Newcastle because of the failure to strengthen the defence.
  2. Why do we just accept that our best players will move on? What is frustrating is that it has become acceptable that they do. I cannot remember a time when we have sold so many of our best players season after season. If this the business model it will eventually crash and burn. The academy has its work cut out bringing the players through, its not easy for a young lad to step up to Premier League standard. When Brian Clough developed Nottingham Forest into such a good side, I don't remember there being a stampede of their players to leave to go to so called big clubs. Saints are my club,I have a right to my opinion as do any other fans, its just frustrating to see a good player develop only to see him join the ranks of the departed. I don't know what will happen with VVD all I know its not good to have this sort of speculation, half way through a season, on one of the best centre halves this club has ever seen. Lets stop the name calling its childish, everyone has the right to an opinion.
  3. Its false economy to keep selling your best players, its going to hit you eventually,we've been lucky up till now. What message does this send to the fans? What message does this send to the players? I understand players ambition, what I don't understand is why we don't make more of an effort to keep them.
  4. If VVD does go it will show the club has absolutely no ambition apart from making money.
  5. Very important we gained a point yesterday against one of the best sides in the league. If we had played a more open game we would have been hammered. This season is going to be a battle so every point gained is important. We showed yesterday how well we can defend, now we need to improve our attack, in midfield and forward line. We aren't too far away from being a very good side, just need to strengthen the squad particularly in attack and we should be ok. Remember yesterday against Liverpool we were playing a side that has regularly raided us for our best players so they cant complain about us parking the bus against them, they deserved that.
  6. I agree with your points on JRod and my comment that we were 'messing' about with him was wrong.
  7. Where did I say he was the 'answer to all our problems'? I know he's on loan for the season to Blackburn, all I'm saying is its a pity we didn't keep him here instead of messing about with JRod and lets be honest I will be very surprised if Austin plays all season and Long does pick up injuries. I don't get this sending good players off to other clubs to improve, cant they do that here?
  8. Yep! but we could do with him now. I thought when I first saw him play he was a promising prospect.
  9. I'm surprised we didn't hang on to young Sam Gallagher.I understand the thinking that he needed games to improve but bearing in mind the fitness of JRod and Austin it would have prudent to keep him.Might have saved us some money too.
  10. Hull who we are just 3 points ahead of in 3rd from bottom spot.
  11. 'Long and Tadic contributed 18 goals between them last season - so far this season it's just a single goal. I would say a big part of the problem lies here, rather than the like for like debate' Didn't we have another manager last season or did I just dream it? We've lost a couple of very good players too. This just might have a bearing on how Long and Tadic play?
  12. I absolutely agree with every word of this, particularly those players you mentioned as to who we could have gone for.
  13. Lets hope Austin stays fit.
  14. Strange how some see it as Knee Jerking after one game when nothing of the sort was said,re. the start of this thread.
  15. 1973 I remember at the Dell,Mick Channon scored.
  16. And yours remind me of someone with the IQ of 50 or less.
  17. Modern Day Fan lol I've been supporting Saints for over 50 years. Where have I snapshot a single result, asked to change the manager, reinvent the club, sack the owners, sign 20 players? You need to calm down. Why are you going on about games played last season? We had Wanyama and Mane and Koeman as manager etc, different in so many ways. All I am saying is that its getting tight and we don't want to get dragged into a relegation scrap. I don't consider that most of the teams below us are light years behind us,they are not ,and that arrogance will get us into trouble. If Liverpool beat us I wont consider us better than them,I will be getting over the shock, still it is Saints so anything is possible.
  18. I haven't got anytime for Keyboard Warriors, sonny.
  19. If we are LIGHT YEARS ahead of Hull why did we get beaten by them? Why in the PL did we only draw against Sunderland and Watford etc Everton, Leicester are marginally better than us and to say we are fairly close to Spurs and Man Utd is not true, they have far stronger squads to fall back on. If you dominate games you should win them. Plenty of good teams get relegated, its the 3 points that matter. At this point I don't think we will go down but make no mistake we are going to have to work hard not to. Virgil's been brilliant, but needs cover if he gets injured,Austin's goals have been invaluable but will he last the season,we need to strengthen the squad. Not particularly impressed we spent so much money on a player we are still waiting to get fit,he looks promising but only time will tell whether he is or not. Don't tell me to pull myself together etc if I express my concerns about the club I love.
  20. Looks tight,3 points from 3rd from bottom. To be honest looking at all the teams below us,there is not a lot in it and if we are not careful we could be fighting a relegation battle. When I say there is 'not a lot in it 'by that I mean I don't see us much better than those teams. This is when Squad Strength will tell.

    Yohan Cabaye

Cabaye is a creative and skilful midfielder, but why consider him? Didn't we just buy one of these and a younger one too.
  22. Still think this a possibility,I must say we have done better than I thought though. Virgil has been brilliant and Austin's goals have helped. We must strengthen the squad in the transfer window.

    No Plan B

When we had so much possession, as in the first half, he would have been a threat in his best position, in the box.
  24. beowulf

    No Plan B

    Particularly against his old club.....
  25. beowulf

    No Plan B

We must remember how much Long contributes, works his socks off every game, would have been a big asset today.
