January 2014 Transfer news & rumours
westofshannonsaint replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
The Irish press seem to think were looking at Aiden McGeady - €7m from CSK Moscow. http://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/saints-in-for-aiden-29748122.html Doubt it myself - don't think he's good enough for Saints. -
Would it be arrogant to say - If it wasn't for a fluke/freak goal we would be second in the league?
-
Why should they be shut down? They have to pander to their customers, as most businesses do & parents are the hardest part of her job. Lets take a small creche of 30 kids - that's probably about 15-20 family's of differing beliefs, race and religion - all children are equal - what should they do? I'm not trying to start a childcare debate as it is wildly OT, but I am interested in opinions. FWIW you will struggle to find Ba Ba Black Sheep on any modern nursery rhyme cd's as that is also racist (I don't know why). I agree, the PC brigade has gone insane & as with the RH analogy - is it racist to think about race before you open your mouth? I don't know where the line is?
-
TBH, I'm not surprised, my better half has many years experience in childcare and we have had many conversations on this subject. In her crèche 'cheeky little monkey' is a banned term because it may be deemed racist to some. They do have to be very careful as something that was deemed acceptable when we were kids might not be acceptable in today's multicultural Ireland. I agree, I think it's ridiculous. If Hodgson stopped himself and thought "oh that might be racist, I'll use a different analogy, what's an analogy?" - Is that racist?

If Osvaldo leads Italy at the world cup......
westofshannonsaint replied to rickylambert's topic in The Saints
& under contract. NC would give the 'vision' speech again & if he was forced to sell I'm sure he would get a very good deal. If you put on your red & white tinted glasses (and squinted a little) you'd be able to see Osvaldo doing well for his country in the WC. He might associate his success with his time at Saints leading him to commit his future to the club, attracting other 'world class' players. BTW, OP where did you get your crystal ball, i've broke mine TBH I really don't care what our players do on international duty, as long as they don't get injured. I do like to see them doing well, SRL's England goals are the only England goals I remember cheering. I just want them back at Saints fit & ready for the next game. -
Rickie will never take the penalty though, Gerrard or Lampard will............ Rickie will score the rebound. (

you could always "sweep up every bit of confetti post-match" - confetti @ football #WTF

the first time i've used 3 posts in a day in a long time... Disabuse might become my new word, but other than AOC who was the last player we sold for a decent amount of cash? The players you quoted above went for over £80m each (i think). I concede if someone offered silly money + addons, then NC would then have something to think about. £15m for shaw is not silly money especially when we are lacking in back up in the LB spot (see other threads). I think the punch situation shows how NC deals with players who don't want to be here & the AOC situation shows how he deals with out of contract players who think they can do better. How long does Shaw have left on his contract?
-
I think he might have if you look at the comments, The fact is that AOC went for £15m +addons when we were in L1. Does anyone expect Shaw, with his prem experience & long term contract to go for a similar amount? Were we not offered similar amounts during the summer? I am genuinely surprised with the amount of people on here that don't realise that we are no longer a selling club.
-
I really don't see what everyone is getting so worked up about (I've seen no bile)... I think we all know/hope that Danny's Saints career is coming to an end. I'm reluctant to say he is not good enough (thanks for your service), but right now he is 3rd choice LB & fighting for a place on the bench. Going out on loan (with a recall option) is idea for both the player and club. The player might find a new club & he will be match fit if a recall is needed. If we miss him for a week or two he might even return a hero.
-
As far as I can remember the last player sold (at least for decent £££) was AOC. We're not a selling club... The only reason Rickie will leave is if he asks to & I doubt we would sell him to a rival, we might rent him out to one though (ala Punch).

Strange it's not listed on firstrow.eu hopefully the above link will work.

10th - I'm getting used to continuous improvement & expect it to continue. The current squad is better than 12 months ago. Back then premiership experience was vital 'round here. Now the only 2 players in the 25 man squad without PL time are new signings, brought in at a cost of £20m & the youth have already 'stepped up' Back then, our double promotion winner manager's job was already in doubt. Now, our new Manager already has the vital PL experience, learned English, a full pre-season with a settled squad & (imo) has a mutual man crush going on with NC. Did I read somewhere that MP had a better PPG average than NA last season? If we are as lucky this season with injuries and suspensions I would hope for a Swansea type season. At the very least I expect a better start to this season than last.

what did I just click on to? Hope the mrs doesn't check my web history.

Luke Shaw Signs 5 Year Deal - Official
westofshannonsaint replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Where have you been? The last player I remember being sold against our wishes was Ox (£12m to a L1 club, iirc) & most (if not all) of our first 11 are contracted for the next 3-5 years. Punch is probably the best example how NC deals with players looking for a move. Happy Birthday Luke. -
Why is this a sticky & not part of the speculation thread?
-
not wanting to dredge up the past but I would prefer Cortese over Lowe/Wilde/Crouch.
-
I wouldn't worry too much, your tat's will still be more recognisable in 20 years time than something like... Which is a good design & I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with something similar, if the badge was redesigned. I like our badge, It's instantly recognisable. The Silver and Gold versions that have been used recently are quite nice - a bit 'cleaner' & less cartoony, but still instantly recognisable - at least to most football fans. I'd presume this would add to the brand value of the current crest? Also, remember that the last time the badge was meddled with, the ball was painted red.

the last "song for MP" thread, I suggested... I guess it didn't catch on

Adkins Teamtalk versus Saints
westofshannonsaint replied to Horton Heath Saint's topic in The Saints
he won't catch the ball and it will bounce off someone's arse into the net. It would be interesting to bee a fly on the wall when the two managers meet. For Nige, it must be like meeting his ex wives new fella. I am not worried about this game, NA (as much as I respect him), always fluffed the 'big' occasions. -
Liked this quote...

Morgan Schneiderlin - season stats
westofshannonsaint replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
I never understood the term "he's a premiership player" but now I do. ...I always rated him though... -
How much do you care about how well our PR dept are preforming? IMHO ML would be happy with our progress to date. finances are my only doubt, but for now I'm towing the party line... were stable???
