Sorry Hamster that is WAYYY off topic & I know it was probably tongue in cheek but is pretty offensive. there is quite a difference in the right and wrongs of the republican "struggle" and local football rivalry.

I am supprised to see this thread is still going, but do people realise that England is bidding to Host the world cup in 2018? Football related violence is a huge mark against you in the hope of wining that bet and it has to be shown that you are stamping it out/have it under control. It has been said that the cops should have done more to prevent the crime, but imo football violence is on the rise & has been glamorised, the cops needed convictions to stop it getting out of hand (perhaps someone can advise if this is being repeated across the UK). from what i've read the cops had the situation pretty much under control -no one hurt/fans kept a god distance apart. They stood back and took pictures of people they fancied making examples of & people aged 28, 34, 46 (old enough to know better) seems like a good place to start. Sentances like this will make people think twice before they throw a hub cap or coin at a child/woman/oap/anyone wearing colouts anywhere near a football stadium/wearing colours.

2010/2011 League One Fixtures - out now! Plymouth (home) first
westofshannonsaint replied to stevegrant's topic in The Saints
go on... you know you want to. a pretty good chance the first game of the season will be on TV imo. -
not wanting to be modlike, but have you looked at the first sticky? my only gripe is that the "quick navigation" function isn't as quick as it used to be & it's a bit bright.

Different Ownership and Managment, same old summer
westofshannonsaint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
contradict yourself much? have you seen any of the england team play "in the flesh" lately? I bet you still have an opinion on who the skipper/captain/front 2 should be? but as I said..."off topic" -
Different Ownership and Managment, same old summer
westofshannonsaint replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
in alpines defence... ...we need to strengthen in a couple of key positions and add to the squad. ...we need to hit the ground running and ideally start the season early and with a complete squad. ...."gelling" cannot be used as an excuse for the coming season ..someone needed to start a thread that livened up the board if you have him on ignore, why reply to his thread? Against... ...its early in the closed season. its a world cup(slow) year, there's no point in signing a player who is on holiday. ...Pardew/cortes have ony strengthened the squad since they arrived, there is no reason to think they won't continue to do so. off topic I hope ye lads are going to south africa! otherwise according to your rules you are not entitled to an opinion on englands world cup campaign. -
Guys, chill out. It's just the summer lull.

I think I read somewhere that Marcus gave his shares back to the family, but I still think he has a few quid in his pocket. he had enough to buy the club (debt free inc. stadium) and make improvements (manager, squad & facilities) If ML & NC were to leave tomorrow, they would leave the club in a better position than when they found us & I would be grateful. Is Nicole a better chairman than Rupert? Rupert's biggest argument was running the club as a business & on a sound financial footing. I am sure if you were to compare CV's there would be no contest. -
Would Saints beat England? If it came down to penalties we would

it's not necessarily a bad charity. I presume it aims to direct children away from following their parents into a life of crime.

Where do you want the pre-season tour to be?
westofshannonsaint replied to Red Alert's topic in The Saints
Just about to say Ireland otherwise Germany/Austria. easy to get to and with links to Marcus (didn't Marcus once have something to do with a team in Austria?) also, you have to remember "the cloud" it might not be a good idea to go to far away. -
Agree with the above, I can't wait to get the new sponsorless shirt the red blob will be insignificant.

we were reminded that Fans who cannot make it to games know absolutely nothing about football. And their opinions are a waste of internet space.

This is what awaits Alan Pardew on Wednesday.

witty, but not really worth the effort at this hour in the morning. -
all of the above, but it always p*ssed me off when he reffered to us as "the club/they" how many current premiership players played under saggychops at Saints? 'arry cant operate without his dodgy dealings, even the taxman knows it.

poor Claus, seems to be going through a rough patch!!! I hope he sorts it out.

£800 for 2 tickets in 2003, won in a charity auction through work, great seats about 8 rows back on the 6 yard box (Saints end), but corporate (vip apparently) seats so I was surrounded by neutrals. A great day out that I will never forget, I am stunned that the skates have tickets left over, it just goes to show for a FACT that there is in only one club in Hampshire.

what REALLY cost us promotion ..?
westofshannonsaint replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
the minus ten & lack of preseason/poor start, meaning we spent the season playing catchup, added to the unusually high points required to reach 6th spot. I don't think anyone would have turned down 70 pts and +35 gd, with 2 games to go if it was offered last August. looking over the league tables 76 pts & +35 gd would have seen us in playoff spot in 2004, 05, 06, 07, 08, & 09. also, I'm delighted we won the JPT, but the cups were a distraction - especially P*mpey. But all things considered I think Saints have had a brilliant season, winning regular & won silverware.... & looking for a bright side, at least I will be able to boast that I seen SAINTS in L1 when we are winning the champion leagues final in a few years time (i didn't get to go over this season - i guess that makes me a bad fan) -
Odds for League One 2010/11 out already!
westofshannonsaint replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
does anyone know the t's&c's that go along with sky's free £5 bet? -
& I think that was in a post match reaction thread, when the 2 board members were unhappy after a poor against Brighton.... they probably changed their opinion's after a good night's sleep. Mod's.... can we have a Pardew Out poll? the threads aimed at "those who want Pardew to go" are getting kind of irritating.

any links? -
& that's from someone with a Union Jack avatar!!! Celtic is a massive club, much bigger than Saints (regardless of how much we want it to be otherwise), and it is a big job with (almost) guaranteed silverware/European football. But it is succeed or bust & under at least as much pressure as under Cortese add to that the fact Celtic are in a bit of a mess, the politics involved (someone said Pardew's the "wrong Religion", when did Celtic start signing protestant players?) and that a sizable majority of their fans are unfortunately idiots.... It's a poisoned chalice. I would be very surprised if an offer was made/accepted. I would be more concerned if the rumour was about a mid table prem club (what do Spur's do if 'arry goes down?)

Players we've detested over the past 5 years

I think this board & the internet in general is a bit bipolar, you have to LOVE someone or HATE them with a passion. Maybe space is limited and there is no room for a middle ground.
