Other Premier League Transfers - Deadline Day
ADutchSaint replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Last year around this time i said we had almost on every position a better player as Everton. At that time only Lukaku, Coleman and maybe Barkley would make it into our starting 11 but that has changed quite a bit. -
Thats a bargain really for a young talented defender with quite some experience already. Good deal for Monaco.

Can we finish higher than eighth in the 2017-18 season?

I have a hard time seeing anyone paying the 100m they want for Lukaku and if he does gets sold, they will sell 25 goals which should be covered (at least close to it) with Klaassen and Ramirez. Both should be able to get 10 in over a season. You can say what ever you want about Everton but if they succeed to land Keane as well, then they have one hell of a transfer window even if they lose Lukaku and Barkley. -
Can we finish higher than eighth in the 2017-18 season?

I dont see that happening with out current squad, we either need one of our strikers to step up and score 25 goals or our midfield needs to produce a lot and a lot more goals. The only way i see that currently happening is when one of the top 7 clubs drops the ball completely. -
Well that would work if the earth would stay still but a lot could happen in a year. Who says Liverpool still needs a CB next year, or what ever team for that matter? VVD probably realized it is a world cup year, a world cup he won't be at and he could actually lose his spot in the national team. Advocaat already said he prefers a right and left footed duo at the back and seeing Hoedt and De Vrij play together at the back at Lazio he has good reasons to pick those two. Not to mention another injury and VVD could ask J-Rod advice how quickly it can all go down. It's easy for us to say 'why not stay another year or do this or that' but it's not that easy. In football things can change very quickly and VVD ain't 22 anymore and you can bet your ass in 12 months people are raving about new talented players who have broken through. It's all not that simple really.

He can aim for what ever club he wants but if those clubs dont come.... I doubt Barca or Real will put up world record fees for him, he aint high profile enough for that cause lets be real here, only people who really follow the PL know him. I watch a lot of football but i sure as hell dont know the centre-backs of Atalanta, Sevilla, Nice or what ever random club. And selling the purchase of a unknown centre-back (for a world record fee) isnt that easy to your fans, getting a name in like Varane, Hummels, Boateng, Manolas (or who ever) would make much more sense for the fee we want.

Most impressive thing about De Boer and him winning all those titles as a manager at Ajax was that he lost his best players every season, got cheap mediocre and even bad players in return and he never complained in public about it. He just did his job. Think i said it on here before but Ajax spend more money this season then they did in like 4 seasons when De Boer was the manager. Im still in favor of De Boer coming here, no-nonsense guy, passionate as hell (in a good way) and doesnt sugarcoat a thing.
-
Doubt it, if he hadn't signed the new contract he still would have had a contract till 2020 and then there would be no reason to sell him if the club desperately want to keep hold on to him. I see only one problem tho, a mediocre season with us (or another injury) and he will be worth jack **** next summer especially with a world cup where he wont be in the first place. And with reports of 50m+ bids this summer, thats a high stakes poker game. Thats one hell of a tricky spot and im not fond of tricky spots in football cause there's simply no reason to get yourself in one.

Hope they know what they are doing

Letting him off what? The possibility that he wants to earn even more money, play for a bigger club and play CL next season? Yes, shame on him. Grab the pitch forks! I really wonder what some people expect from players.
-
I still like it that people assume Holland will qualify for the World Cup next year, its not gonna happen tho.
-
Be happy we have something to sell, if no one would show interest in our best players then we would have a much bigger problem. All clubs are "selling clubs", we just sold loads more players then other "smaller" clubs because we had better players then them. Just a simple fact, nothing more, nothing less.
-
Bosz a far better coach/manager as De Boer? You base that on what? Bosz having a insanely talented Ajax squad and reaching the finals? Or De Boer going to Inter who were a mess when he arrived and who are still a mess? Its funny how suddenly people are raving about Bosz but they forget that Ajax spend more money on the players the past season then they did in 4 seasons when De Boer was there, who managed the win the title multiple times with very mediocre players and power struggles in the club. But you are right, its not even close cause De Boer is a far and far better manager as Bosz.

Im not sold on Klaassen, works hard and all that but he's not the type of midfielder that i like. He's the type of player thats ok in everything but doesn't shine in anything. From the midfielders Ajax has i rather see Ziyech or Van de Beek, last one will become a absolute top notch player. That kid just oozes class just like Dolberg but well all names we have no shot at im afraid.
-
We should be all over Sanchez from Ajax, we probably don't have much chance getting him but man that guy is good.
-
His mother passed away a few months ago. Dont think Vilhena will be a good fit tho in the EPL, he will struggle a lot with the pace and also he's a type of player we dont really need. I would rather see Pröpper or Van Ginkel from PSV instead of Vilhena. Ziyech is a totally different player from Tadic, Ziyech is a proper attacking midfielder where Tadic is a winger. I would have liked to see Ziyech at Southampton but thats not going to happen anymore.
-
What player doesnt want to go to a bigger club and earn more money? A young English midfielder.... All the top teams in England will be interested in him.
-
Because? The rest of the season doesn't matter? Fonte was the captain and he would have been gone for sure in the summer and guess what, he's already gone. So there's no logic in that. I don't understand why people come up with all these silly arguments why VVD might stay. He either stays or goes in the summer, that's it and the odds are he goes cause a injury ain't going to stop that, a armband won't and a baby wont or what ever else people come up with. If the right club comes with the right offer then he's gone, that's how football works.
-
How much affection do you have for the companies where you worked for like 2 years? The guy just worked here and is gone now, give it a rest already
-
Neither, both really dont have the qualities to be a reliable 10. I would put them on the wings and give them freedom to roam around.
-
-
"The Southampton way", its nothing more then a marketing strategy. When you are successful you come up with ways to stand out even more so you can say 'look we do it different, we are successful so its working', its something clubs have been doing for years to get attention. And when results tank, you come up with a new thing and call it project what ever with new promises and when that fails you come up with a new thing/excuse and repeat the progress. Thats all that it is really.

Good or bad deal is not the point and not relative. I don't care how much we got for Koeman, I dont care how much we get for Fonte. And what's good in the first place? We don't know yet, Puel hasn't won me over and let's see how it goes without Fonte but yaaay 13 million pounds or what ever? It says a lot that they were willing to move sideways. So you can be happy about that we got 'good' deals for them but I'm not and that's all I'm going to say about it.
-
So after our manager went to Everton we now lose our captain to West Ham. How or why? I don't care, it just ****es me off really. We shouldn't be losing important figures inside our club to those clubs, simple as that.
