  1. From a financial reporting sense not really. Can't remember the exact rules but basically assets are normally valued at acquisition cost less depreciation. The rules around revaluing assets at 'fair value' are pretty strict and would normally need expert 3rd party verification. I think normally football clubs value players according to how much they purchased them and then amortise this over the term of the current contract i.e. buy a player for £4m on a four year contract after 3 years he is valued at £1m. Home-grown players or players acquired on a free have no value in the accounts. HMRC would be pretty foolish to accept any argument that a certain level of income will be forthcoming in the summer from player sales unless that forecast was very, very prudent.
  2. To be honest it is a bit of a pointless argument. We'll only find out if Pompey go to the wall and if a re-incarnation ends up playing in the conference or lower. The whole trophy/attendance arguments can be good fun but they don't mean much. As a Saint what is important to me is where we're heading - I wasn't even alive when we won the cup so it's nice but not that meaningful. At the moment I'm optimistic that we'll be in the Championship in 1 to 2 years and challenging to return to the Premiership in 3 to 4 years, we'll have one or more appearances at Wembley a long the way and the quality of the team will improve. For those reasons I wouldn't swap to be in Pompey's shoes, their outlook is pretty bleak even if they survive the court case.
  3. One worry I have at the moment is Vantis. Never heard of them so this is admittedly completely uninformed but do they have a good reputation? Have the got the balls and the nouse to cut through the bull**** of the Pompey spivs? I do hope so but they will be under a lot of pressure to accept any positive spin. Come on HMRC! On a different note, old tax dodger saying they've got some interested parties makes me chuckle so much - it must be concrete he had a phone call and an email! wowsers! There are surely some people on here - perhaps with some connections abroad, real or even better fake - that could call Stories bluff? a Saints inspired hoax would be funny as ****.
  4. You are such a plum if you believe that strike bs, its a myth FFS. Does anyone still not know that? Trouble with Portsmouth is they constantly believe their own hype. The most passionate loud fans in the land? absolute ********. They didn't get going until they were 3-1 up.
  5. Itchen corner was rocking yesterday. Was in Block 4 at the back with a "I love HMRC" placard - made it into the inside of the Daily Star's sport section
  6. everyone who wants a ticket will get one, Wembley holds 90k, we will get 40k minimum and probably more.
  7. Not too mention BAE in the dockyard and the RN. The vast majority of those Pompey 600 will be very part time e.g. stewards etc
  8. there is so much hype about violence, most of it is laughable. here are more people talking crap: http://www.fansonline.net/portsmouth/mb/view.php?id=232584
  9. sounds like BS to me
  10. HMRC collect billions of £ every year - what Pompey owe them is small fry. Pompey have given them the runaround already, they could well go for the jugular to set example to others.
  11. £3m of the £4m from sales will have gone straight to the month's wages.
  12. so far, in the last couple of weeks, i've heard that hundreds of saints fans booed during Alan Ball's minute's silence, saints fans are always fighting amongst each other at SMS, we only got 13k at home to stockport, and kids always cost either a quid or are free.
  13. It's much quicker to get to London from Southampton than it is from Portsmouth.
  14. Get in, used the 01271 number, got through after a few goes. Block 4 row MM (back row). Hope there aren't any skates in the box behind! COYR
  15. Maybe. From a different point of view it could be seen as "dog whistle" politics - what they're trying to do is appeal to prejudice customers by saying with the flag cards in a subtle way is: "I'm a white not a foreigner". Just a possibility, only the drivers themselves will know the motive, but I imagine that's why the council took action.
  16. wtf? are you trying to be ironically funny or are you just a knob?
  17. Bridge split up from his bird in December.
  18. lest we forget the glorious beginning to this thread, brings back memories.
  19. I thought we were buying for £2.5m?
  20. what sort of **** poor defence is that?
  21. FFS, I can't believe that some people are worried about not getting a ticket for the JPT final (that we haven't even made yet!). Wembley holds 90k and unlike the FA Cup final there will be no clamour for neutral tickets. We'll get 40k tickets minimum, if you want one you'll be able to get one.
  22. yes because that stopped the Tories allowing inequality to grow massively, tuition fees to be introduced and the country taken into a disasterous illegal war....oh
