Didnt think we had a ladies team...
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to Marsdinho's topic in The Saints
It's great if ladies want to play football too but if Marcus is spending more cash I'd rather it went on improving the men's team and associated infrastructure. -
It's fairly simple I was trying to present a situation where an ordinary member of the public might lost their temper and push someone over who then died. I invited the reader of the post to imagine that they were walking on a high street with a young child, how you could interpret that as a policeman taking a toddler to a riot I don't know.

Even the IPCC thought it should go for trial: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/jul/22/ian-tomlinson-g20-cps-ruling

Cameron - "UK was a junior partner"
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Lounge
Cameron: "I think it's important in life to speak as it is, and the fact is that we are a very effective partner of the US, but we are the junior partner," the PM told Sky News. "We were the junior partner in 1940 when we were fighting the Nazis." Sorry Dave but the US wasn't even at war in 1940. In fact there weren't even any non-Commonwealth countries for the UK to be partners with let alone be junior partners. Dreadful stuff from Dave that won't go down well with the blue-rinse brigade or those of us who would like a less deferential relationship with the states. -
They're "down to the bare bones" f'sure

Just imagine this: You're walking down the high street with your 3-year old son. Some bloke walks in front of you and treads on your sons toes (accidently? who knows) and he starts crying. You give him a piece of your mind but he ignores you and offers no apology, momentarily you lose your rag and push the bloke over. Somehow it causes him to die. What is the likelihood that the CPS would take over one year to come to a decision? What is the likelihood that the CPS would prevent it from going to court on some technicalities? What is the likelihood that enough time would elapse to prevent even lesser assault charges from being pressed? One rule for the Police.
-
You came up with a number of questions that wondered if or if not the Policeman was acting lawfully. In any case the CPS didn't say he was acting within his powers but came up with some technicalities which prevent them from taking it any further. from the beeb: "Mr Tomlinson's family solicitor Jules Carey said the family will consider whether they can appeal against the decision. He said: "The CPS have accepted the conduct of the officer was unlawful. "We now need to find out if there has been a lack of will or incompetence, and frankly there needs to be an inquiry into that."

Idiotic analogy of the week award goes to.....
-
So why can't a court decide these questions? As usual the police are above the law.
-
Really? the police are entitled to push people who are walking away from them forceably in the back? BTW He didn't just push he also whacked him in the back of the legs with his cosh. Dreadful decision but what was expected. TDD, just be glad that when you got caught up in that riot that you mentioned you were able to speak to a reasonable common sense Police officer. If you'd been unlucky you might have been told to **** off and then shoved to the ground. Reactionaries on internet forums would've said you got what you deserved.

For the military buffs out there
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Lounge
Do they? Waste should always be attacked but the army, in particular, have been overstretched for years because spending hasn't increased to match increased demands. The focus needs to be on making sure that funding make more of an impact to the 'front line' but I don't overall cuts should be made -
Indeed, HMRC could argue that as the football creditors are guaranteed 100% payback then their debt is effectively a secured debt. In which case they shouldn't have been voting on a CVA.

Nugent's best goal scoring season? 15 goals in 43 games for a settled and competitive Preston team that finished in 7th position in the 0607 season. Chances of Nugent scoring 25+ goals for Pompey? IMO very low.

lol lol lol, you think that Pompey fans are deluded and then another one comes along to take the delusion even further. Perhaps you could offset any compensation against amounts already owed?

French ban the wearing of the Burka.....
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to saint lard's topic in The Lounge
Re-read my post - I don't agree with a ban on the burkha because of freedom of choice and because I don't think it is offensive. It's obvious that I don't have a problem with certain things being prohibited on the grounds of decency. I think its pretty clear why your driving on the wrong side of the road analogy was silly. Whether you like it or some people attach a great deal of cultrual and religious importance to the burkha, for them it resonates strongly with their values and identity and it is an emotive issue. I'd be very surprised if anyone attached any emotional attachment to their "tradition" of driving on the right hand side of the road let alone any religious or cultural importance. -
French ban the wearing of the Burka.....
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to saint lard's topic in The Lounge
Well I for one am not against such a law because it is their tradition, I am against this law because I think everyone has a right to wear what they like and because I think that it is unreasonable to find the wearing of the burkha in itself offensive. I don't like the burkha and if my daughter converted to Islam and started wearing one I'd be very upset but if someone wants to wear it that is their choice. Equating the burkha to driving on the right is just silly. I think you should try to come up with a better analogy if you can. -
French ban the wearing of the Burka.....
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to saint lard's topic in The Lounge
And yet we shouldn't be entitled to a choice on what clothes to wear? seems a bit of a contradiction. If we ban the burkha should we also ban: - The wearing of crash helmets when not literally on a bike (that's for you TDD )? - Hoodies? - The wearing of hats and dark glasses? - Fancy dress outfits that cover the face? -
Sorry, another teacher bashing thread I'm afraid......
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to Johnny Bognor's topic in The Lounge
It does sound like he has been paid way too much (especially the overtime) but I keep on seeing people compare salaries to the Prime Minister's salary which is just silly. 99.9% of jobs pay a wage that reflects the market rate. No one does the PM role cos of the salary so it is artificially low. If it truly reflected the responsibilities of the role the salary would be in the millions. -
Meanwhile a massive chunk of the £15m expected from outgoing transfers looks like it has been secured. Diop on his way to Greece for 300k euros, yes a whopping 300k - the creditors will be chuffed with that! http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/frattonlatest/Cotterill-confirms-Diop39s-on-his.6411961.jp?CommentPage=2&CommentPageLength=10#comments

As someone who was living in Germany in both 1990 and 1996 can I just say this - Come on England! Actually feel fairly confident about this. If we play anywhere near our potential we will win and I'm backing Gerrard to have a big game.

Mate, you've has egg on your face so many times on this website, it's funny that you can still be so smug. Android may be an ugly **** but he isn't a fat lady and nor is he nearly as clever as he thinks. Also strange that you put any store on the thoughts of an ex-regulator - the whining from the skates blaming the "authorities" has been deafening.

Would you play Robert Green in the next game
anothersaintinsouthsea replied to John B's topic in General Sports
Can those saying that a problem for Hart is that he lacks experience please explain why that puts him behind Green? I always assumed that the "he's inexperienced" line is meant to suggest that he's more susceptible to making errors and yet Green made a massive howler anyway. Hart has innate high confidence and unlike Green has been the main man in international tournament football with the u-21s where he was prominant in getting them to the finals - he scored a penalty in a shootout too. -
love it. living round here I don't normally boter buying a shirt but will this time.

I think Terry Brady was sniffing around Pompey while Mandaric was trying to get his Pompey village housing/stadium redevelopment plan going. I've got some Swindon connections and seem to recall Brady first being linked to Swindon when they got taken over by a consortium that was interested in relocating the stadium to a new site and combining it with the development of housing. After a poor run of form Brady left the club and was replaced by business partner Danny Donegan who hired Roy Evans as manager and signed Ruddock on rediculous wages which precipitated their fall into administration. Interesting that AA should be invited to the club by an ex-owner potentially interested in the re-purchasing the club. sounds familiar....... Luckily they had a local benefactor who kept them going until they were taken over by someone with real funds. If it hadn't been for the benefactors AA would've taken them into liquidation.
