  1. Put it this way. Even when under the control of successive owners (Mandick and Gaydamak) who were desperate for a redevelopment scheme, even when they were getting capacity crowds, even when they were getting loads of money through TV deals, even when the property marker was really strong - They still couldn't get a viable scheme going.....
  2. It's not an excellent post it is full of ******** including the bizarre claim that the ANC "made up" the word Apartheid. FFS.
  3. The top women often get more in the majors as they've got the time to play doubles. The equal pay thing is pretty stupid. I can understand why Wimbledon have made it equal as it was bad PR but the men's game is a bigger draw and the prize money should reflect that. They're not doing the same job, the men are playing men's tennis and the women are playing women's tennis.
  4. Camber Sands is supposed to be really nice. Really liked the Suffolk coast.
  5. I wasn't the only one then
  6. I was being sarcastic in the last bit. If people can't do without instant connectivity for the duration of a football match they're pretty sad.
  7. Are people really that dependent on their phones? Hard to believe that people coped before mobile phones and the internet.
  8. Is this from an advanced copy of tomorrow's Express?
  9. So your point was completely irrelevant as well as misleading then. Going to elaborate on why you think Mandela has "duped" everyone?
  10. Where the **** did you lift this gash analysis from? Just what is your point about the term "Apartheid" and the ANC? Are you honestly trying to imply some sort of ANC complicity in it. That's how it reads. Aside from your turn of phrase being invidious it also complete ********. It's an Afikans word used as an umbrella term for a whole series of laws designed to keep races apart and keep the white man firmly on top. Find me one respectable internet source that suggests that "the word Apartheid was made up by ANC". "duped for years, by this so called poor, black man" - wtf do you actually mean by this? Mandela IS black. Who said he was poor? I'm sure he was pretty poor during his 27 years locked up in prison but why should someone who has held the highest office in his country for several years and has sold hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of copies of his autobiography be poor? "Duped" - in what way duped? Are we supposed to believe he hates "whites" and wanted revenge? Surely if that WAS the case then he'd have done something about when President. The fact that people are speculating whether or not they will be problems after he dies is proof of calming presence and ability to bind a nation.
  11. I don't disagree but in terms of the original question: We have shown to be the best at packaging football and selling it around the world.
  12. Yes, and why are they people so that people thousands of miles away can watch it? Ignore the semantics and whether "spectacle" is exactly the right word - The Premier League is a massively successful product.
  13. You said it wasn't a spectacle. I'm suggested that TV companies around the world paying hundreds of millions for broadcasting rights suggests it is.
  14. The new TV deals say that you're wrong.
  15. Not really. You're making categoric sweeping statements about a complex and huge endeavour based on your mum and an ex you've not seen in ages. You're proving the old adage about opinions and arseholes.
  16. Many Britons are excellent at scapegoating foreigners so that they can forget about their own inadequacies. We're brilliant at putting on a spectacle - Olympics, Jubilee, Premier League etc
  17. So not based on much then really.
  18. But what are you actually basing that on? When was it, in your view, so much better?
  19. I expect there are quite a few specialist engineering and manufacturing industries in which we excel but they aren't consumer (as in Joe Public) facing so they're not well known outside their fields. It's a frequent lament "that we don't build anything anymore" but we're still in the top 10 of manufacturing economies in the world.
  20. IMO it's pretty stupid to moan about individual aspects of a public sector workers package. When you apply for a job you look at the whole package. Good holidays and pensions are/were a feature of the package presented to graduates to entice them into the teaching career. If non-teachers think they're on such a good deal then how come they haven't joined up? It's all about matching supply with demand. If Gove et al **** around too much then they'll be a shortfall in teacher numbers in 5-10 years time and the moaners will have fresh opportunities to moan about the incentives being offered to get numbers back up.
  21. They are more generous, at least 2 or 3 more weeks a year. Additionally you can't get away with lesser qualifications, the testing/inspection standards are less rigourous and they inform the school well in advance.
  22. Eh? The British one...
  23. Wonder how many of these cuts could be avoided if the Government actually did something about tax avoidance. All we've had so far are promises and rhetoric.
  24. I've been boycotting Stella for years and I won't start buying it again until it stops tasting of ****.
  25. too true, he's never even clapped the Northam after matches.
