As my previous post, we will never know if he was good enough for the PL. We will be always indebted to him for his contribution, without which we might not have been promoted. I will always be ashamed at the way Nigel treated Sharp.
-
I'd much rather HAVE given Sharp more game time in the PL, but Mayuka deserved his chance too. We now know that Mayuka has not impressed. We will never know if Billy Sharp could have impressed were he given the opportunities that Mayuka has had. But they are not really comparable. Sharp was a lethal goal poacher if not fast (though neither is Pelle, nor was Rickie). How we could do with someone other than Mane who could hit the net at present. Mayuka is a speedy but aimless forward who can't score.

How come Spurs and Chelsea are currently playing for a place in the final too?

And where does one find an Echo? A few arrows would help

Scorers? or are you anticipating a lot of own goals

Irreplaceable if we cannot afford to find or buy others of the same calibre? Yes then they would be. And we have all seen how we suffer without them. The long term disadvantage of their absence has been that we have found it difficult to return to the disciplined shape that we have had for much of this season.

Has the forum updated a list of out-of-contract strikers recently?
-
This is the nub of the problem. Fatigue. Every other team member, except the magnificent Clyne (has he missed any games?) has for various reasons been able to 'rest'. I reckon Pelle would benefit coming off the bench for the last half hour when he could put everything into going for goals (he has had the bad luck to hit the posts enough) and not have to pace himself to last 90 minutes. We do have options in Long, Mane, Elia and Djuricic now, if there is no suitable striker out-of-contract out there.
-
i don't think that our playing was abject. That is too strong. We outplayed Liverpool in most positions - except in front of goal.

Loaning a striker... is it too late? Most seem to agree that Pelle has been giving stalwart service this season, playing 90 minutes every match, but even Koeman admits he is looking jaded. He needs support, not criticism. Would it not be better to give him a rest to rejuvenate, at least on the bench for some of the 90 minutes? So is it not possible to still be able to import a loanee striker? What are the rules? Meanwhile I think it is worth starting with Long upfront with Mane behind. Pelle would be more effective coming off the bench in my opinion than being aked to last 90 minutes at present. But this is not meant to be another thread on Pelle, but to ask if there are any circumstances that we can at this late stage bring in another loanee striker?

Pelle will hit the post three times again. But this time they go in! COYR!

Southampton, the erosion of goodwill and tribal truths
eelpie replied to Lallana's Left Peg's topic in The Saints
It always used to be that way back just after the war Hampshire supporters rooted for their own team first of course, then other county teams second. The Echo highlighted all Hants teams. There was grudging admiration for Pompey's higher status, but we made it too. That is when local rivalry (reflecting the competition between the port of Southampton vs Portsmouth docks) started to become more intense. But it will always be that neutrals support the underdog. Us vs the bigger clubs, and recently when CP and Swansea defeated bigheaded Saints. -
Far too early to make sweeping judgements
-
Well, not on crutches, but I wouldn't mind their most inform striker having to leave the field early. I suppose that has to be Stirling.
-
No, but IF Katrina wanted to realise her own and her dad's investment what better time than this year when SFC is riding so high. Gee I hope not.
-
It's not hysterical to no longer be able to afford to watch the team that one has supported for 60 years.
-
But, it has been asked, how many are on minimum pay?
-
Yes. As the form striker the team has to be built around him (without sacrificing our defence)
