And in fairness to Mark Wotte, although he would not be my choice of manager, he has been the only one in the office, so to speak, since administration began, and has kept the players informed about the situation. He may well have averted departures of some of the better players that we still have.

Ted Bates originally became manager of Saints with no previous experience, just a reputation as someone who knew his football, was widely respected and had positive person to person skills.
-
Not seeing Lowe's smug face at St Mary's. Notts Forest is welcome to have him. A pragmatic manager who can handle spoiled players and at the end of the coming season survival in League 1.
-
Top post. Perhaps all the money that many on here have pledged to save our club should go to the genuine small local suppliers to SFC - ordinary people like you and I - who have seriously lost out. It is they who are really bearing the cost of our gain. Perhaps we should be looking at this.
-
It was half-dutch football really. If the hapless Poortvliet had not (by Lowe's dictat) persisted in playing one inexperienced striker in front of a midfield that could hardly cross the half-way line I believe that we would not have won more home matches. But history would have been different. I am happier to be in League 1 without Lowe than in the Championship for another tortuous year with Lowe.

Saint Matty's it is then!!!!

"They're running a business with money they don't have and buying players with money they haven't got. To my mind, that's cheating." He does have a point imo. This is what is wrong with all of the Premiership and half of the Championship. We have paid the penalty for overspending however, unlike others.

Well, for starters, Tim FLOWERS in goal. Next...

I am not.

The problem has been that there has been no grand planning strategy because all councils since the war have (and continue to do so) lack creative vision. What a waste of opportunities have been squandered along the waterfront, for example. What a mess it is now. It is that basic. -
No. Not yet. One day, definitely, but the job has only just started. We are only at the beginning of a very long road, and begin next season minus 10 points, don't forget. Our squad is not yet really suitable for the League 1 hustle and bustle and needs to be rebuilt. We are going to have to weather many more upsets before we claw our way back to the Championship. And inevitably Matt will get lottsa crit from us fickle fans along the way. As Ted Bates did when things didn't go well. So one step at a time. Meanwhile though a great big thank you, Matt!

Will our one anonymous financier pass the League's 'fit and proper persons' scrutiny? Will the half dozen anonymous financial investors in Portsmouth's syndicate pass the Premiership's 'fit and proper person' scrutiny? I think I've just answered my own questions. (But perhaps our luck will change for once)

I don't think he should be manager during this coming season, but I must give tribute to him during these difficult times because he has been the only one holding the ship together. Well done Mark Wotte for this.
-
Terrific News. That should scotch the Susan Boyle next manager rumours.
-
I knew he would come good in the end.

Time is now ticking oh so s-l-o-w-l-y on this Swiss watch............
-
Shouldn't it be 'fine-teethed' comb - for those of us with more than one tooth?
-
So successive councils deserve a lot of blame for lack of vision. I agree.
-
Yep, that's me!
-
As polled in Portsmouth.

The Portsmouth deal may not go ahead. The Premiership's new 'fit and proper person's' scrutinity requires that the investors belonging to Sulaiman Al-Fahim's ownership consortium must be publicly named. The sheik is not prepared to allow this as anonimity is conditional on their pledging their money. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/may/28/portsmouth-takeover-premier-league

Sorry, mud and sand

Very close is the original Saxon settlement of Hamtun I believe, and the Vikings plundered around, so could be. Perhaps our bad luck is connected to the norsemen. Didn't it all start when we lost the playing services of the Svennsons? We are doomed............ doomed.....
