  1. Maybe AG visited with a view to recruiting players for their next game? Or to let his players have a go on the kiddies playground that's in that building? Or both of the above.
  2. Didn't Jimmy Hill take the credit for that?
  3. I agree with all of that. We're in such a fantastic position now so it's perhaps easier to look back with an "honest" hat on. An article was posted in this thread (maybe 5 pages ago, maybe 50, tough to tell the way the pages fly by), in which Wenger suggested the over spenders were cheaters. I admire Wenger for what he is doing at Arsenal, albeit at the cost of actual silverware. His is very much a long term vision and may not bear fruit until he has left the club. But who's to say their current crop of youngsters couldn't burst through and past a skint Manchester Redskins/ageing Chelski. It's also wrong, I think, to feel sorry for the fans when a club falls on hard times. Several articles and PES, a man who speaks a lot of sense, have pointed to the fact that, when a club is on the up, how many fans give a sh1te about what is being spent to provide that level of success? On the flip-side though, these are decisions completely out of the hands of the masses, but the masses aren't able to have a say on who to entrust the running of their club. Barcelona, a fantastic club, as an example, is an exception to the rule here. I'd be interested to see the first set of accounts under this fantastic new era at Saints. I assume SFC is now a Private Limited Company and we will therefore see some numbers. Are the attendances this season sufficient to justify our level of spending, assuming we strengthen in the coming weeks?
  4. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/columnists/gabriele_marcotti/article6974596.ece No new news here, but an opinion that agrees with Mawhinney, Platini and co that overspending is cheating.
  5. Morgan's a fantastic player. He came here as a raw midfielder with goals under his belt. By his own admission that's taken a back seat as he's been working on the physical side of his game with clear improvements. He's still young. The naysayers should give him a break. He just needs a goal after which there'll be no looking back for him. He'll be my couple of quid for 1st scorer for the next few games. I predict he'll be the subject of bids at the end of the season & I hope NC & AP agree to tell any suitors to get stuffed.
  6. Which/what logic?
  7. Q&A on how the winding-up order affects Pompey Note the final question:
  8. My instinct is that this is total crap. It reads that the FA are calling in auditors and will press charges if any wrong doing is discovered. I'm not sure the FA has that power! It also assumes that Portsmouth CC will want to buy FP, while the club plays at H&W in the Blue Square - why would the CC agree to that?? No doubt we'll be seeing some developments in the near future, but whoever came up with that rumour is talking sh1te.
  9. It's a shame Theo's not available tonight. I'd love to see him run riot at Krap Nottarf.
  10. It was the prawn eating variety based in the Surrey/Devon area. I'm sure the Scousers were equally unimpressed though, regardless of the result!
  11. Following on from PES's earlier debate with others regarding the relative merits (or otherwise) of SMS and FP, I happened to be leafing through a paper-based fanzine for one of the "big four" Prem teams, who visited FP earlier this season. The following article from that fanzine provides a view of the facilities at FP and also backs up PES's view on SMS. Mods - I'm not sure on the rules with reproducing this so please let me know if not OK and I'll delete straight away. I've never visited the place, but it sounds horrible! Despite all the money that's flowed through the club in recent seasons, it seems not a penny has been lavished on the stadium itself (Recaro seats excluded, these are obviously important for any self respecting, big club).
  12. That is a link to a report on Megson's sacking. Nothing about a winding up order, unless I'm being a bit blind? Edit: sorry, just saw the above posts.
  13. I don't know why, but the final part of this section of the article makes me want to vomit. Uncontrollably.
  14. I didn't go to the Millenium Stadium for the Cup Final, but was this a problem for that game? It didn't seem to be the case on TV as our fans gave a fantastic account of themselves on the day. Also, I went to the ZDS Cup Final at the old Wembley and again, the singing and chanting that day wasn't just restricted to pockets of fans.
  15. I argue Lloyd's case with my mates at every game. They can't understand why AP keeps picking him and think that he is a terrible player. I think he was one of the few to come out of last season with any credit and that he is improving still further under AP. I particularly enjoyed the Exeter game given his involvement in the first two goals - the silence from my mates was deafening (after they'd cheered the goals, that is). I'd certainly be interested to see Lloyd's stats for assists this season as he must have a few...?
  16. Mellis has already gone back, Chelsea recalled him due to the loss of their African players. (AP on Solent).
  17. Also confirmed (on Radio Solent) that no decision on Antonio and will make his mind up on Trotman later in the week. He didn't elaborate whether it was his or Reading's decision re Antonio.
  18. Let's face it, if we play like we did for large parts of tonight's game, Leeds will win at a canter. May sound harsh but Norwich mostly passed the ball around us tonight, especially in the 2nd half. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the win, but I'm confident AP will be honest with the players about the performance in the morning once the hype's died down a bit.
  19. That really is an impressive vision for Staplewood. I sincerely hope this comes to fruition. So much to be happy about as a Saints fan right now.
  20. Team News They will not be pushovers, as their recent results suggest. They've won in their last two outings, including a victory at Millwall. Having said that, we're confident and free scoring so I expect a win but not a clean sheet.
  21. Brighton was a freak result. Their's was probably the best performance by a visiting side this season (although Naaaarwhich were probably the best visting side overall). They caught us on an off day and were highly motivated to perform that night. Business as usual now though. IMHO, we have such a strong squad that, even though we play a fairly simple system, it works for us as other sides don't have the quality to counter it (even if they have sussed us out). Naaarwich, Leeds and maybe Charlton/Huddersfield are the only other teams with that sort of power and quality.
  22. Agree with all of this although It should be considered that the opposition were very poor. I was particularly impressed with McNish in the middle - strong, skilful and excellent awareness. AP, NC, Dodd, Henderson and Wilkins were all in attendance last night too for a confident performance so a good night all round for those players.
  23. Great idea for a thread! Centre 2000 sure brings back memories - mostly of watching divers through the glass and hoping a birds bottoms would fall down!! I was a kid at the time (that's my excuse anyway!).
  24. This is, of course, assuming they resolve their financial problems and avoid a points deduction. Do you think they will survive if this is applied? I don't.
