Frankly, if Saints can't beat Coventry then West Ham deserve the automatic place. If they are not "up for it" against an already relegated side then the Premiership would be far too great a leap anyhow. What will be , will be
-
Wouldnt be like Saints to do anything the easy way! Never mind a win at Peterboro and the prospects will look much better..... its not over yet!
-
Its far too early to say we have "blown it", but it is natural to feel disappointment after such a tremendous run of results. I feel this has been coming for a few weeks now and the intensity & confidence within the squad has dropped for some reason. Yes there is a need for a few signings as the depth in the squad is not what it needs to be, but it is also about getting everyone playing to the levels of a few months ago. There is very little between the sides in the Championship and anyone can beat each other on a given day, so its all about getting that small percentage back and hopefully things will not be as bad in 2012 as they have started

Today shows why we should have signed James Beattie
egreog replied to Paul Chuckle's topic in The Saints
Back up striker needed, but never Beattie!! -
Isn't the guy to Chiver's left Roger Fry?
-
I sense he was on the fringes at Celtic and I would imagine NA is far easier to get along with than Lennon as a manager . The "togetherness" that has developed at SMS means everyone is welcomed on the bus, and many opposition comments are quoting the spirit that comes across when on the field of play. Cortese and NA seem to be signing the players with the correct attitude and weeding out, moving on those of a negative influence. Its good to see and refreshing!
-
If Sheff Utd in League 1 say he has a fitness issue and mulling the prospect over, then why would Saints, playing at a higher level be at all interested? Well past the good times!
-
Thank god he is just out of the club for a few months and his wages taken care of. I'm sure he will be gone for good in January, either to QPR permanently or some other outfit who can deal with his character
-
We honestly probably got the best of him last time around.........not a good idea to go back.......if a striker at Rangers can't score goals against the sort of inept defences they play every week he is hardly likely to cut it in the Championship. Best just to keep the relatively pleasant memories rather than risk a second time around!
-
Perhaps, just perhaps, he has an excellent attitude that Saints management feel they can build on. In a few months Celtic might grab him back having seen what they are missing......who knows?? At least give the management some credit for possibly knowing a little more about footballers and their potential than 99 % of posters on here. The opinion of Celtic supporters is totally irrelevant. I sense he has not enamoured Lennon for whatever reason, but I'm prepared to give the guy a chance rather than splash the cash on somebody that doesn't want to get on the bus. Lets just see what the next 4 months brings, and if the need is critical in January, I'm sure the club will deal with it accordingly
-
There is no way the club under its present ownership and management would dream of signing him, and that is so refreshing. Saints want committed, skilful playerswith the RIGHT attitude and personality to fit into the set up. There are many players who may have the skills, but a lot of them would not suit Saints. Long may that approach continue!!

James Beattie was at Southampton airport this morning....
egreog replied to bigdavewatson's topic in The Saints
He is history and can hardly get a game at Rangers!!........Saints got the best of him and its been downhill since...time to move onwards and upwards -
If he doesn't want to play for Saints, as has become consistently obvious, then get the best price and get rid of him as soon as possible. Wherever he goes he will struggle to be consistent and no doubt move on to somewhere else again soon! An agents dream!!
-
Frankly, Saints in pre season appears to have consistently fallen short as "slow starters" is an understatement! Anything new has got to be worth trying as I believe if there was a league table over the past 20 years of the first 5 games of the season Saints would be propping up the lot!! Could this year be different?? Hope so!

Its early days.....some players are still on hols. I'm sure there are deals "in the pipeline". Far too soon to be pressing the panic button!

Rochdale 2 - 0 Southampton - Post Match Reaction
egreog replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
4-0 defeat over 2 legs to Rochdale........quite embarrassing not to be able to score a goal in 2 games against them....but Oh so typical of Saints to do things the hard way!! -
Shocking result really when the opportunity to make up ground was there for the taking!!.......as with most clubs nowadays, full of overpaid journeymen who frankly will play for anyone who pays the most cash. Play offs are , I believe, unlikely now. Too many other teams are picking up points.......7th place is my prediction, but hey at least Bournemouth and Brighton are on an upward trend , so good for south coast footy in general
-
Ummmmmmmmm. no thanks!
-
Just hope Saint's ability to "restart" the season is better than their ability to start a season in August!!.......if there is any similarity its going to take weeks to build any momentum and by then the play offs will be the target at best.!!
-
More than 2 and less than 18......probably nearer 2 though!!
-
To be honest, I can't see Saints scoring at Hillsborough so it will have to be the following week hopefully.... but as each match goes by it seems less likely they will ever score again!!......Weird really
-
Can't see this lot scoring a goal in each of the next 4 games......let alone winning them!!
-
Over 6 hours without a goal in the THIRD division too!!........when was the last time THAT happened??
-
Another defeat beckons against Colchester on Saturday.......but what I just don't get is this "low confidence " stuff that keeps getting churned out. These are supposedly among the best players in League 1 , or so we are constantly told!........they were bookies favourites to stroll this league a few weeks ago!..........now their confidence has gone!..........well sorry but in my view there is no leadership on the pitch, no grit, no will to win, and a strained relationship with the fan base that AP's sacking hasn't helped. Weird!
