Change to 4231 for me. We’re only going to score a maximum of 1 goal whether it’s 1 up or 10 up top. a goalkeeper KWP Lyanco Salisu Perraud Rom Diallo Redmond Armstrong Tella A striker Would like to see this just to maximize the protection for the defence. Might even give us some ball retention options should we get ahead and need to hang on. Won’t happen though. This game is an absolute don’t lose.

I agree but that wasn’t the point
-
This is a ridiculous statement. We were dominant again for 45. nobody enjoys the second 45 though, I’ll give that
-
That wasn’t a foul, he went down so softly and we got punished
-
That was poor. KWP caught out and then a really weak hand from McCarthy
-
Doesn’t seem it to me. Article says he wants an 18-20 man squad with youngsters who’ll come in and out. Current squad, by my reckoning, has 19 with 6 who I would deem as the in and out youngsters. I think we just have a bit more competition about the squad
-
This should be dead and buried. We open them up over and over with ease but cannot get the finishing.
-
A backup player who cost £0 except wages. I think that needs to be included in any objective thinking. If the club can hold on to or get players for no transfer fee then that’s a win, even if that player is a back up or cup player.

So good but so typical. where would Ralph even change it? S. Armstrong for Djenepo to be more direct? Broja is a good up top alone and surely no change in shape is required... tricky
-
Seeing that we’ve been trying to stifle other teams defensive midfield lately I wonder if Redmond will play a little deeper and when we break try to be a link player. Yes, I know that sounds ridiculous but one can hope!

For about 13/20 of the league it is. This isn’t a competition to see who wins anymore. There’ll be teams who have more ups and some more downs but not being 18,19 or 20 means financial solvency for longer. As for the OP, the goals being scored by Beattie et al were hardly from a time when we were tearing it up! Most of them are from seasons like this, bang average with some wins and goals scattered about.
-
We’re simply not capable of breaking teams down. We press well but if we don’t turn it over we don’t create. Lacking pace and quality from the two 10s which doesn’t help at all. Djenepo looks dangerous with no end product. Have to find a solution to this stagnant attacking threat.

Really sloppy so far. Romeu is his own worst enemy at the moment. Ely showing why we miss Armstrong so much, good positions, good turn, terrible outcome. Need to sharpen up in the final third
-
FF KWP Bednarek Salisu Peraud JWP Romeu Armstrong Redmond Adams Tella I can’t see Ralph starting Armstrong when he won’t have done much work on the pressing system. Suspect we’ll see him after an hour or so. Early goal when we’re full of energy but ending in a 1-1

All these moves got me thinking about when Saints participated in some kind of academy gathering with teams across Europe. They then talked about signing local players with a connection to the club as well as bringing through the ranks. I’ve no doubt someone else will recall it better than I but it feels like we’re heading in that direction

Disappointed for Austria. Hate Italy’s brand of diving whingy football
-
And even then there’s often a wait for the domino effect. If City move for Grealish then Villa move for someone then their club moves and things start to shuffle
-
This. Incredible amounts of diving and whining. Got a lucky break that broke Hungary’s resolve. Was gutted for them
-
It does affect it. If your side is under more pressure, with less of the ball then you’re going to be provided with more opportunities to intercept and make tackles. Of the prominent midfielders on the list not many play for big teams. Granted, it doesn’t mean you will. Bednarak being a prime example of that as he has high interceptions but shit tackles.

I think the theory would be that we go down and shift many high earners and dead wood. You can then bring in new players on less wages as you adjust to the lower turnover. When (if) you get promotion then you get the premier league payday and can buy players to supplement without it dragging you under or give you best players a pay bump. Saints can’t really rebuild because that 100m is allocated to our two crap keepers, Shane long, Lemina, hoedt etc. Easier to shed them if you’re relegated and teams hunt a bargain
-
My only main thought is that Ralph should have, at some point, had Adams and Ings on together. They work well together, we didn’t have the threat they pose yesterday. I understand keeping Tella on, let’s build the kid up for next season, but if Ings isn’t fully fit then start him with Adams so we have a chance of scoring and then throw Theo/Tella/Obafemi on later

Slightly different to the circumstances of a footballer

Liverpool will look to sell for a profit even though he’s done not enough to earn that for them. Think we’ll be priced out even if we did want to keep him here.

https://thelaziali.com/2021/05/01/southampton-loanee-wesley-hoedt-has-played-a-key-role-for-lazio-this-season/ It was all Jim Hughes’ fault after all. Apparently Hoedt is now composed, confident and comfortable....
