  1. He’s clearly on a wind up, as the ‘libero’ position is obviously the old sweeper role that used to be played by the likes of Krol, Beckenbauer and Summer etc.. The false number 9 role is a striker who plays much deeper position (more akin to a midfielder than a traditional striker) with support of wide players - the purpose of which is to make it more difficult for the central defenders to pick him up his movement / runs from deep. England used to use the old ‘WM’ formation (3-2-2-3), not ‘MU’ which they did when they were beaten 6-3 in the famous game by the Hungarian’s back in the 50’s. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Yep, completely agree. Prior to Puel, we’ve had a number of managers since ML took us over, all different (Pardew, Nige, MP and RK), but all played positively and tried to take the game to the opposition. Puel and the current MP sadly seem to be typical of the current negative / non-effective (but high possession stats) / ponderous / don’t get beaten coaches that Premier League teams seem to be employing in growing numbers. There’s a reason why the likes of Serie A matches are typically played in front of half empty stadiums. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Fair play to those of you going to the time and expense of travelling the length of the country today to watch the likely Rafa vs MP snooze fest [emoji42][emoji42][emoji42]. Fingers crossed we can get the win we so desperately need. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Good interview from Adam B. MP is clearly in denial of the reality of the situation. If that’s his mind set that explains why he keeps repeating the same mistakes and he will never learn because he can’t see the problems he’s making for himself. I agree with MP, that changing players helps (e.g. eventually making obvious changes like dropping players who were completely out of form, such as Forster and Redmond or picking Austin as your most natural goal scorer). Another crazy notion I know, but why not just pick your best / most in form players in the first place and play them in their best position? If you’re system is set up is wrong in the first place, including the way you are instructing players to play - it ultimately doesn’t seem to matter who plays (re: MP player chains comments) as the same turgid football appears, so this doesn’t square either. If we’d gone for it and ended up turning 6 draws into 3 wins and 3 defeats it’s not rocket science that you will end up with more points. Another aspect that seems lost on the negative, we mustn’t lose mindset that MP has (understandable tactics away at Man City, but not at home to Stoke etc..). I’m struggling to see a single benefit to keeping MP until the end of the season. Don’t think we can do any worse with another person in charge, providing that they are prepared to go for it and proactively try to win games. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. 5th round - West Brom (Pardew) 6th round - Hull (Nige) Semi - Spurs (Poch) Final - Leicester (Puel) Only Ronnie K missing from the complete set! That and the fact we’ll probably lose to a Rodriguez goal at WBA in the next round! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Don’t post very often on here, but was at the game yesterday. The Boufal change killed the game for us and MP put us unnecessarily under additional pressure, as we lost our main attacking threat. Thought both Boufal and Tadic were good at making things happen. As others have said we were doing well up until that point and could of won by three on another day, as Watford were a physical but poor side. Watford were always going to lump it forward, especially towards the end, so some credit should be given to MP for actually reacting for once to a change in the opposition’s tactics. Bringing Yoshida on wasn’t the problem IMO, but taking Boufal off was. As others have said Cedric was struggling, so why not take him off? JWP can play as an emergency wing back if we wanted to bring Yoshida on and go with three at the back. Someone like Stephen Davis who was far less effective could have been sacrificed within the more defensive set up and left our attacking threat in place. Very happy to get a rare victory and make the next round of the cup. Not one for manager bashing, as Branfoot lives long in your memory, but I think MP’s poor decision making is really hurting a team which should be doing much better. Need to get behind the lads and hope for the best for the rest of the season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
