How many more dead threads is Dr Who going to resurrect ?
a1ex2001 replied to badgerx16's topic in The Lounge
Must be ban worthy? It is utterly bizarre behaviour! -
Who has said Carrillo was a good signing I think he is the only pretty much universally acknowledged obviously terrible deal apart from the two or three nutters that thought he had a career record of a goal every other game! I’m really not sure what you are trying to say what clear and obvious errors every club makes mistakes and we have made plenty but most were understandable gambles as is this latest proposed signing.
-
Boufal had his moments and it was obvious why we bought him he looked like a good player, similarly with Elyonoussi although I’m puzzled how the scouts missed his total lack of pace but clearly neither were obviously rubbish players before they came here and Boufal was a close shave with a decent signing. The revisionism that goes on round here really is something special! Forsters contract really isn’t that baffling it was around the time he was in the England squad and before his decent into mediocrity had kicked in, there was a time when he looked a very good keeper. Long’s contract I agree was odd and Walcott I still think is a decent squad player for us, I’m really not sure who people on this board think we should be signing!
-
Lemina had the potential to be an outstanding signing and make us a decent profit unfortunately his character has ruined his career! Hoedt also looked potentially decent but turned out to be a disappointment and Gunn while over priced looked like a good buy for the future but unfortunately we ruin goalkeepers somehow! It certainly isn’t fair to compare them to Guido who was obviously pants they were all much more calculated risks that just didn’t pan out, pretty much every club signs more duds than stars regardless of budget as you can never be sure when you bring someone in even more so when operating on a budget!
-
Brilliant finish that will certainly give his confidence a boost, never looked in doubt the second he got the ball! Fingers crossed that is a sign of things to come!
-
Crap day so far then as Tottenham seem to be joining Leicester in chasing JWP the club really need to resist all but the most stupid offers for him. The CB situation is baffling it’s been obvious he was going for weeks and we had shown how it should be done with Armstrong lined up to join as soon as Ings left. Not what obafemi is thinking as I don’t see home getting a lot of game time this season and when the club have made it clear they don’t want you surely you are better off going!

Any transfer news? This thread has been off topic for ages!

Forster or McCarthy, who's your No. 1 keeper this season?
a1ex2001 replied to JWade's topic in The Saints
FF there was a really good keeper in there once so maybe he can finally find his form again (just in time to earn another bumper contract then turn pants again!) -
He had his moments briefly in his first season but his injury record before we signed him was absolutely dire and then low and behold he retired after 2 seasons, making him our record signing at a time when we didn't spend a lot of money was bonkers
-
Hirst what a waste of 2 million quid that was! Imagine the row on here if we made a 30 year old with a dodgy injury record our record signing this summer! back on the positive side Williams and Telfer must have both been 29/30 when Strachan signed them and both of those deals turned out well for the club.
-
Hughes and Kanchelskis were both dire so far over the hill they were out of sight, Le Saux was brilliant and played with real commitment and professionalism even in our relegation season when his class was still obvious. I'll throw another crap oldie in Stuart Ripley, I was hoping for a good swansong from him when he arrived but he was dire.
-
That would depend on the wording of the clause if we had any sense it would be 20% of any profit we make. I’ve never understood a sell on clause being enforced if you make a loss on a player.
-
Lambert for now, his story with the Saints is just too good.
-
I don’t think anyone blames him personally! If someone offered me a fortune to do a job I’m incapable of and a three year contract I’d snap it up!
-
Happy to have Theo back on a cheap loan deal, he won't have to do much to contribute more than the players who are being replaced if he gets a handful of goals and assists then it will have been a decent bit of business. He's still quick and hopefully will be keen to show what he can do to earn a contract next season.
-
Dia never cost us a penny other than maybe a couple of quid in wages and Osvaldo actually looked like a quality footballer until he went mental. Carillo was known garbage when we got him (Look at that goal scoring record in Argentina!) cost us a record transfer fee and clearly is on wages that make him un-affordable to the sort of clubs who actually want him. He is clearly our worst signing by a country mile if you take into account ability, impact and cost. The others people have mentioned in this thread at least had the possibility of being decent (Lemmina, Boufal etc) Carrillo was obviously garbage!
-
He hasn't proven himself in the championship he had one decent short spell with Swansea, Adams had three seasons in the Championship and still hasn't managed to make the step up. David Prutton played 25 times for England at under 21 level again this is no guarantee of success! 20 million for me represents a massive gamble he is a good prospect and nothing more his career to date is very reminiscent of the two lads that Bournemouth got bent over for, I'd take him on loan with an option to buy which would at least give him a chance to earn a 20 million price tag!
-
I wouldn't touch Brewster for that sort of money, he is hardly proven at this (or any other) level and is just as likely to turn out to be a flop as the next Owen, Jordan Ibe and Dominic Solanke spring to mind!

Because we need a FTA and will almost certainly at the last minute agree to the original EU proposal much like we did with the withdrawal agreement which despite all the posturing was essentially the original deal we were offered. Boris and his cronies will put some lipstick on the pig and trumpet it as the greatest FTA in history then a few months later quietly leak out the agreement over fishing and level playing field much like the boarder down the Irish sea that we were never going to have... We are playing a game of poker with the EU unfortunately the only cards we hold are the joker and the one with the bridge scores on while hey hold the rest and both sides cards are face up on the table our posturing is embarrassing and our eventual capitulation will be predictably humiliating welcome to the green and shiny uplands of Brexit!
-
He's been a brilliant signing and I'd be happy for him to see out the rest of his career with us, fingers crossed the official announcement of this come soon.

Random Ex- Academy Player Transfer News no-one will care about...
a1ex2001 replied to The9's topic in The Saints
That is indeed the ScottBevan who was on our books but never quite good enough 40 years old now! -
Nobody is giving in, in that scenario both clubs are compromising spurs paying more than they want and us accepting less than we want. The deal gets done and both clubs can move on with out wasting half the summer arguing until the same thing happens the day the window closes. the football transfer market is just so childish it is insane.
-
It's such a boring game the two clubs should just come to a reasonable compromise If spurs want to pa 15 and we want 25 split the difference at 20 and move on it's not worth all the noise.
-
Berkovic was 5'7 and Belmadi 5'9 so neither it would seem are in the top 10 under 5'7
-
We should just loan/sell him to Celtic and subsidise his wages best for both the player and the club get as much of the cost off our books as possible and chalk it up to experience. It's a shame as initially for us he looked really good, was playing for England and probably earned his contract extension even if his form had started to tail off at that point.
