  1. The Lords amendment was to legally compel them to improve their sewage systems and to demonstrate progressive reductions. So it follows that it would have required them to make improvements in infrastructure rather than just let them carry on as they are.
  2. No, but anyone with half a brain would realise that to reduce the amount of undiluted crap that they dump in the rivers, they would need to spend more on infrastructure rather than giving it away as dividends.
  3. If it needs addressing then the Government should address it, not wash their hands of it by throwing out the Lords amendment.
  4. Indeed, but now that the Tories could do something, they're happy to see crap pouring into our rivers and sea. Perhaps it's Pritti Patel's wheeze to discourage the Channel crossers.
  5. Since privatization, the water companies have paid out £57bn to shareholders, nearly half of the amount that they have spent on infrastructure. They've also amassed £48bn of debt which is costing them £1.3bn in interest each year. Scottish Water, which is publicly owned invested 35% more per head in infrastructure than the private companies whilst charging customers 14% less. It doesn't pay dividends A report from Greenwich University concludes that the private companies capital expenditure is covered by revenue from user charges. The borrowing is to cover dividend payments.
  6. Also by 22 Tory MPs who voted for the amendment.
  7. Remember a story told by George Best. When he joined Man U he could only use his right foot. Matt Busby told him that, if he ever wanted to be top player, he needed to be two-footed. So he spent hours and hours kicking ball against a wall and and controlling it with his left foot. In the end he reckoned that he was better with his left foot than with his right.

Javid was put on the spot by a journalist who asked, in light of Javid's asking people to wear masks in crowded places, why weren't Tory MPs wearing them. He conceded that it was a good question. Apparently, today the majority were masked. Obviously orders from above.
  10. It's all going rather well: Pre-Brexit: An article from Express.co.uk, published on March 21, 2017, reads: “Idea that farming will collapse after Brexit is absurd.” Post-Brexit: Another headline from Express.co.uk published on June 22, 2021, reads: “Farming disaster: Brexiteer admits many farmers will go out of business due to EU exit.” Pre-Brexit: An Express.co.uk headline from 2016 read: “More reason to leave: Brexit Britain to take back control of its fishing waters.” Post-Brexit: An Express.co.uk headline from March 2021 reads: “We didn’t vote for this! Fishing collapse as UK firms go bust and exporters flee to EU.” Pre-Brexit: An Express.co.uk headline from October 2016 reads: “Cheaper food after EU exit: Consumer boost as experts now say that prices will come down.” Post-Brexit: Another Express.co.uk headline from March 2021 reads: “Food shop alert as your supermarket bill set to soar due to EU red tape.”

    Energy prices

It's OK. Boris is working on it (or would be if he wasn't on holiday).
  12. Don't sit on the fence. Tell us what you really think.
  13. Apparently the Saudi Public Investment Fund will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club. The head of the PIF is a certain Sheikh Mohammed Bin Salman who, co-incidentally also happens to run Saudi Arabia.
  14. Presumably he'll put his prices up which will fuel inflation.
  15. But when the Remain camp warned of labour shortages they were accused of scare-mongering. Now they're being criticised for not preparing for something that they were told would not happen.
  16. Had to get up early this morning and was listening to Farming Today. They were speaking with pig farmer has about 3000 pigs. He would like send 300 of them for slaughter but can't because the meat processing company can't take them because most of their workers have gone back home to the EU. Overall he reckons that there are about 100000 pigs waiting for processing. He's running out of space and the only solution is to slaughter them on the farm. It's illegal for him to do it and he can't find a vet to do it. He must be imagining it because Boris said that there wasn't a problem in pig farming.
  17. I'd have Mark Dennis in there. Surely would have played for England if he'd been a bit more controlled.
  18. It's all going wonderfully.. https://newsthump.com/2021/09/24/brexit-going-really-well-actually-insists-government-with-no-fuel-energy-food-workers-border-control-or-trade-deals
  19. I think that they should meet in the St Marys car park on Sunday and sort it out like men. Let us know what time and we can all be there to watch.

    GB News

I see that they've wound up with zero viewers again. For 75 minutes on Saturday afternoon, BARB reports no viewers. Ok, it might not be actually zero viewers because the BARB figures are taken from 5800 monitoring boxes. But, relative to other news channels, they're not doing too well.
  21. Do we get the stocks and a ducking stool to find witches?
  22. That was the feeling that I got. The team got a decent reception at the final whistle. This West Ham team had scored 10 goals in 3 games and we restricted them to a handful of chances and got our first clean sheet in 8 months. If a team is struggling the first thing to do is to stop conceding. Yesterday showed that we can do that.
  23. Just received this in an email. Going to be a busy day.

  24. Her skin is probably a bit dark for the Daily Mail readership.
  25. Trouble is that it's not going to fund social care. It'll be used to reduce the increasingly long NHS waiting times. Social care has to limp on for another 3 years and what will they do then? Can't see then taking money out of the NHS to give to social care so it'll probably be an increase in the levy, which is an increase in income tax by another name.
