  1. Boris is currently in hospital for a "sinus operation", at least that's what they're saying. Apparently it's actually to do something about this:
  2. Boris has now lost his 2nd ethics adviser after Lord Geidt tendered his resignation. To paraphrase Lady Bracknell: To lose one ethics adviser may be regarded as a misfortune, to lose two looks like carelessness.
  3. There was study by the LSE that used education attainment data for each of the the 348 voting districts in England and Wales to predict the voting outcome. In 91% of the districts they correctly classified the outcome based on the the proportion of degree-level voters. Adding other factors such as age, socio-economic status, ethnicity and sex only improved the results by a point or two. However, removing the educational data considerably reduced the accuracy of the predictions. https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolicy/educational-attainment-brexit/
  4. Not just the G7 but the G20 (excluding Russia).
  5. "There have been gun killings in 43 of the 50 US states in the two weeks since the Texas school shooting. More than 650 incidents have resulted in 730 deaths since 24 May, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive. Twenty-three of those who died were children, more than the total number who died at Uvalde, and 66 were teenagers". 23 children shot in 2 weeks? What is wrong with that country?

    Lee Todd

Rasiak didn't run around much but had the habit of being in the right place at the right time. 19 goals in half a season. We could use someone like that now.
  7. Really? What's 10% (or 1/10) of 13 stone 11 pounds? Or what's 10% of 83 kilos? Which is easier?
  8. To use the old joke from The Young Ones (not the Cliff Richard version): "If I told you darlin you'd think that I was talking about centimetres"
  9. Latest Brexit "benefit: Fruit farmers in Kent reckon that they'll have to leave nearly 10% of their crop unpicked as they can't get the labour. They'll accordingly plant less next year. Meanwhile, their customers (supermarkets) will import the shortfall from the continent.
  10. A short clip from Andy Murray who went through a similar experience as an 8 year-old at Dunblane. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/61640325

    Andy Goram

Not Saints related but puts all our moaning and groaning into perspective. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/may/30/andy-goram-diagnosed-terminal-cancer?utm_term=6294e3b03c0a70048b56b6deb1a4863d&utm_campaign=TheFiver&utm_source=esp&utm_mr_emedium=Email&CMP=fiveail
  12. Not bothered about an "experience". I just want to turn up, watch the game and go home. Have a natter with the people around me and, if I want food, I get it before or after the match from one of the many vans in Melbourne St. They're there for every game so presumably they don't poison anyone.
  13. I remember back in the 70's trying to explain to my boss that kilograms were measures of mass and not weight, something that the imperial system doesn't seem to recognize.
  14. Along with Godfather II, one of the best mob movies.
  15. Harry Truman had a plaque on his desk in the Oval Office saying "The buck stops here". When No 10 staff are getting so pissed that they're throwing up and fighting, in companies that I've worked in, that would mean the sack.
  16. Been made redundant a couple of times myself so don't like to see people lose their jobs but changes were needed. Good luck to all of them.

  18. We've seen a few sex-related stories regarding the Tories recently but this one takes the biscuit; https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/may/22/tweet-on-tory-local-election-candidates-account-says-teenage-girls-smell-buttery-and-creamy?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
  19. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0c3z9lw Well worth a listen.
  20. Turkish is way ahead on the posting count averaging 7 posts every day for the past 15 years which I think is quite impressive although, as Mrs ecuk268 points out, size isn't everything. SOG is way behind managing only 2.5 posts per day over 16 years. Must try harder.
  21. Claimed that 96% supported the privatisation of Channel 4 whereas it was the opposite.
  22. Up lums???
  23. Allegedly, Andrew Rosindell MP for Romford.
  24. To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, when you're a "celebrity", the only thing worse than people writing about you is people not writing about you
  25. Henry VIII. Freed us from the yoke of Rome.
