I meant the computer generated images as shown with Hawkeye in tennis and the WC has been showing computer images of offside decisions . The proposition that it must be true because the computer says so is increasing shown to be wrong , take cash machines as one of the examples and more recently algorithms used for all sorts eg face recognition software etc. Hawkeye uses 6 cameras to track the ball and produce a 3D image , it also gives an elongated image of the ball hitting the court to allow for spin etc .Not sure what var uses as only seen the goalmouth tech explained not the goalline !

I have , If you accept that the computer generated image is 100% accurate then it’s a correct decision but the process at the time was poor . If , like in tennis , they showed the graphic with the ball ‘overlapping’ the line then it would be more readily accepted . In tennis it has become accepted and uncontested. Live it looked out but with a timely graphic lt would improve the var process greatly . 🙂

Not so much a stitch up but if 99.9 % of the ball was out then it’s out in this context allowing for accuracy of white lines imo . I would have thought it would be given out in most matches. This is the madness of var really , not settling argument just moving the point of contention .

They were owed payback for Suarez “save” from previous WC , plus his celebration when the penalty was saved/missed . FIFA obvs stepped in !

So FIFA still cannot show the image that VAR used to make the call , dodgy or what , pass the Rolex someone ….

Football is not the sort of game where we are expected to get a set square out to check if the edge of the ball is 2mm over a whitewash line painted on grass so by definition not well defined . Yoshida had a good game , we were not saying let’s resign him .

You could say that about Bale but not Messi yet . The group games will be over 3 countries with the KO stage all in the USA , the penalty shootout idea is because of the 3 team groups which could lead to match "fixing" in the final matches . We all remember (probably) the Germany Austria staged draw with no attempts to score ! The penalty shootout was put forward when the Soccer leagues were set up in USA as the Americans thought you always had to have a winner and a loser !!

Apparently in the next WC in the 3 team groups there will be no draws , ie decided by penalty shootout if all square .

Trippier commenting on the lightness of the WC ball , this might explain why numerous crosses/corners seem to be overhit. Fernandes managed to put a corner out for a throw in on the opposite touchline last night !

It was explained that it wouldn’t have been a penalty until they changed the rules a year ago .ie if a player is breaking his fall with said arm it isn’t handball was changed .
