It depends on who or what is driving him to look elsewhere , it’s possible that there is nothing the club can do to get him to sign . Promoting him to the first team too soon could turn out to be a mistake for both sides .

Saints academy was held up on Motd and the media in general as a shining example . Big clubs have latched on to that by using their buying power/big name to hoover up any young talent . Very few of those youngsters seem to make it to the first team . Saints success was blunted by the need to sell any half decent products of their Academy to survive financially .

Arsenal have been through a period of buying expensive flops and recovery from Wenger’s slow decline . The players doing well now have taken some time to reach their current standard under Arteta as has Arteta.
