Indeed. Here in the Netherlands, I can't think of any pundit who's an ex footaller. They're generally just people with a lot of knowledge about the game (some more than others) and a pleasant voice.

VVD has not been an amazing player for the Netherlands so far, so I doubt many people would be very upset. They'll just use two of Stefan De Vrij, Bruno Martins Indi and Wesley Hoedt.

So far Clasie has been better for us than Højbjerg, and I like Clasie. But for the club it still seems to make more sense to keep Højbjerg.

So far no spectacular improvements in the players they have. I expect a transition year. They'll stay up.

Does he want to leave, or does the club want him gone?

The whole VVD saga can't help with enthusing new players atm. It's can't be an appealing vibe. Thanks Virgil!

A one off from a different era. There's no comparing then and now.

This is VVD trying to force Saints’ hand by creating an extra negative relationship. Nothing has really changed, except that he’s outed himself as a bigger ***** than we already knew he was, and that IF we decide to sell anyway, he won’t receive his loyalty bonus. Fans stating now that we should just kick him out don’t understand the game he’s deliberately playing. Saints hold ALL the cards. It’s not a positive situation of course, to have your best player refusing to play. We could really do with either him returning to his duty within a few weeks or getting someone new in. But that’s all there is to it. I don’t think the club will worry about their ‘reputation’ after this statement. Despite the above, I personally hope we will sell, if anyone is interested enough to pay the full amount (whatever that is). I'm kind of excited about finding out who we could get in as a replacement.

Martins Indi back to Stoke for €8M, it appears. Would have liked that one for us.
