  1. Yeah, I know he's only play 8 or 9 games. Makes sense.
  2. He's 22, in his first year, out of position, at a new club in a team struggling for form. I'd give him some more time.
  3. Not even close to objective, and I don't agree, but it's interesting that Alderweireld isn't included in today's list of 'The 20 best Premier League defenders of the season so far' by the Telegraph. VVD does make the cut: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/01/18/20-best-premier-league-defenders-season-far/
  4. I think with the talk of a slight injury for VVD Puel won't risk him.
  5. It is a statistical fact that Forster let the most balls through of all balls coming at his goal, compared to any other PL goalkeeper since the 2009/2010 season. It's not a statistical fact that this makes him the worst goalkeeper, but it does give you a not completely unbased sense that he might not be doing too well at the moment.
  6. I'd say it's pretty simple: shots on target that didn't go in. Over the course of enough matches, it does tell you something. All goalkeepers will get easier and more difficult shots to deal with. It'll even itself out for a large part (but not completely, of course). Over the course of a season, I think it does tell you something.
  7. Why is Forster not in there though? Hasn't he played at least 15 times as well?
  8. January 2017 version: 1. VVD 2. Romeu 3. EFL semi-finals, first leg won 4. Boufal 5. Academy players coming through (Sims, Stephens, McQueen, Hesketh) 6. Bertrand

  10. I wouldn't want to support a club that's always expected to win and be champions at the end of it. Of course the ultimate goal is to achieve just that, but the great thing about supporting (a club like) Southampton FC is that one can actually be very excited and happy and proud about a win, because it's not considered 'normal'. The disappointment anbout losing a few games in a row, like what's happening right now, is part of that. I'll take that any day over paying over $100M for a promising midfielder and maybe win a few games more. I go into each game hoping but never expecting. Changes? It'd be nice if some rules were (re-)introduced/enforced, like a minimum amount of players from the club's own youth in the starting 11, a stricter maximum amount of foreign players, a salary cap, and so on. Also on an international level. Clubs from smaller countries like the Netherlands don't stand a chance anymore.
  11. Every Premier League squad is one of the most expensive squads in Europe. It's all relative, isn't it? If all the squads in your league have plenty of money to go around, it doesn't really work in your advantage to also be kinda rich.
  12. Some people manage to find the joy even in the bad days. Some people manage to find a worry even on the good days. Each perspective is yours to choose freely, but I can guess which people enjoy their lives better. No matter how long you've been following the club, no matter how often you go see a game, no matter how much you feel like you've 'invested' in the club: it's an entertainment business, with the emphasis more and more on the 'business' part. It's nothing personal, and there's no reason to make it personal.
  13. Thought this could also be interesting, so I'll add this from now on as well: goals conceded after 21 games:
  14. Sadly this is starting to look a little bleak by now. Points after 21 games:
  15. Senegal win and Mané scores.
  16. Or a thread where people could share whatever they're comfortable with about themselves. Like: Hi, my real name is Dennis and I'm 38 years old. As my username may give away, I was born in the Netherlands. My forum position is probably somewhere in the safe middle between happy clapper and bedwetter. I don't have a Twitter account.
  17. Same is true about watching the football in the first place. It's all just a bit of fun/distraction isn't it?
  18. Every sport progresses over time. That's why world records are still being broken again and again in sports where that's relevant. Football has also gotten 'better' in that way. Most teams from now would beat teams from back in the day. But this obviously doesn't mean that all the players are more talented, or that the games are more entertaining.
  19. According to Wikipedia it's on SKy Sports 3
  20. Even if just for two weeks. I'd be there, no doubt. Too bad I can't kick a ball for ****.
  21. RB Leipzig showing again in Germany this season you don't really need the history and culture.
  22. Chinese Super League rules say a team is allowed to use a maximum of four foreign players on the field each game. There are 16 teams. This means a maximum of 64 foreign players could feature each matchday. It could have an impact, but there'll be enough players left, I'd think. Certainly also because not everyone would like to live and play in China.
  23. I think it was us and West Brom.
