  1. The one touch stuff was a joy to watch.Glory days (as The Boss would say). I still remember the buzz. KK for manager - bring it on !!!
  2. Court Jester. Child friendly -they open the function room bar before the game;decent selection of beer; big car park opposite; 10 minute walk to the ground.
  3. Coming from many generations of Southampton dockers this scum tag always manages to rattle my cage so in that respect I suppose its had the desired effect. The dock strike story is, as Um said earlier pure fantasy.Where the programme featured on Youtube came up with this 1930's dispute I do not know.Maybe one of our blue posters can enlighten me .I have even heard one so called explanation of the scum tag saying that it was over a dispute between fishing company's .Ffs,this is the Solent not Grimsby. I used to go to Fratton often during the 70's when Saints were away as a mate of mine married a local girl and lived just outside the ground. We used to stand with the opposition fans in the un-segregated Fratton end.Never did I hear one mention of Scummers in any chants or songs. In fact the only anti Southampton song they had was a repetitive dirge of "we hate Southampton,we hate Southampton, we hate southampton,oh we hate the saints" .In those days we widely referred to them as scum,so when they decided to call us scum back I'm not sure, but they did and that was when one of the saints fanzines had a competition to come up with a new derogatory term for them and the term "skate" was born for the reasons already mentioned. On the other hand what the original poster said was absolutely true about Pompey docks getting a visit in the 70's.
  4. I have no doubt at all that if we had hovered around in the top 10 all of last season with a decent return from home games our gates Lowe or no Lowe, Dutch experiment or no Dutch experiment, would have constantly been 18-25 k depending on opposition. As one who works most weekends I only saw 8 games last season and most of those were dreadful.I was "lucky" enough to see what was for some time our only home league win ( Norwich ) and we were woeful against a very poor side.Only the fluke from Robertson and the skate getting sent off saved us that night. The number of Lowe stay aways were imo exaggerated and would not have saved us from where we find ourselves.I think that any investor would have done their homework and know what's been going on at SMS for the last few years.

    Leon Crouch

It mystifies me as well - any thoughts anyone ? Also why no offers of loans from Lowe/Wilde to keep us going in this hopefully short interim period ?
  6. We should approach Divi 3 like we should have approached this season(gone). A competant goalie, (I think we can tick that one),A bl**dy great back 4,all 6ft 3" plus,a big hard bast**d in front of them,a 6ft 6" battering ram centre forward and the kids filling the other four places playing their pretty football.
  7. Cant attend but will buy a couple of tickets.
  8. It's far from meaningless. Two wins and a bit of luck re. other results and we take the 10 point hit this season and not start in Divi 3 at -10.As JPS said on Solent this morning ,next season starts tomorrow.Get down here and support yer team!!
  9. TT can't get back for this one then ?
  10. I'm just a Saints fan,I support the team and have done since 1966,I don't get involved in the politics and don't personally know the people involved in these organisations. I really can't understand why some people on here are so anti. What has the Trust done to upset people like SRS for example? Surely we are all Saints fans,if we cant leave the past in the past now and unite we may never get another chance. I'll be there on Saturday screaming them on ,it ain't over 'till its over !!!
  11. Early 1960's about 6 or 7 years old v Bournemouth Reserves ,no idea what the score was but do remember i asked to go home at half time! That was enough though, hooked ! Never failed to get a buzz going to the Dell right up to that last match against the Arsenal. Sad to say never had the same feeling at St.Marys.

    Sam Vokes

Didn't see the game, did wonder whether he celebrated his goal or not as he doesnt get too many starts. Pleased to know he did'nt .Another true mush hurting like the rest of us.
  13. I very much doubt if 'ampshires finest would go along with a quickly arranged "friendly"!!
  14. Just bought two, asked the question ,19.5k sold at the moment.
  15. I'm amazed anyone has dignified this thread by responding.
  16. No real surprise that he still cares after all he is a fan like you and I (albeit considerably richer). He and his Dad sit in the Kingsland.
  17. Spot on.
  18. My eldest went to the same sessions from age 6 -11.Stuart Gray was brilliant,he was big mates with David Platt so he brought in loads signed photos of Platty. As mentioned, plenty of player visits which make such an impression on the kids.Such a shame Stuart was promoted too far too fast(IMHO).

I have watched him throughout his career in the reserves, and he is a decent enough midfield player who can deliver a better than average ball into the box.He really has been thrown into the deep end this season as he is'nt the quickest, his defensive positional sense isnt great which if he had any would make up for his lack of pace, and he has had little/no back - up from anyone playing in front of him.To his credit however he has hung in there, never moaned ,always given 100%,and slowly improved as the season has progressed. For that he deserves an awful lot of credit .
  21. Just to add to the John Bailey reminice, whenever he came to The Dell, there were fans stood under the West Stand by the players entrance that used to wave newspaper cuttings of the episode with the sendings off at him when he came onto the pitch as well as the "we hate Bailey" chant. That is how much he was hated. If you dont hate "Inchy" Heath you were'nt at the Highbury semi-final.I too was on the pitch until I flew back into the Clock end still attached to a metropolitan policeman.Took a physical and emotional battering that day.
  22. In answer to the original thread I think Lowe's biggest mistake was not looking for the kind of investment that would sustain us as a top 10 premiership club, especially in 2003 when we were a good proposition.By not being wealthy enough to buy £7-10 million players or pay £20k + a week salaries it was inevitable that the only way was down . If I'm wrong and he activally sought that kind of investment, then his biggest mistake was not finding it; especially with his supposed contacts in the city.
  23. I've seen him twice playing for the reserves and although he did little wrong he did'nt do much to get excited about. A few get and gives ( sideways!!!),plenty of encouragement to the boysh around him( which was good ),but very unremarkable.I don't think we will know until he get's a first team game - if he ever get's one.
  24. Does anyone know if "19/Beast " is the same guy who at the 2007 AGM gave the top table horrendous stick telling them they had no right to be there etc, then at last years AGM ,gave Lowe his undying support, and sniped at Crouch,Lawrie,Corbett etc throughout the meeting(until they walked out).Just curious.
  25. You beat me to it.If Wotte has been in the background all this time why did Rupes appoint JP instead of him.Makes no sense, mind you little does at SMS these days.
