-
you sure it was not Bertrand and Lemina? Goal scorer and best mid?
-
Just want to add, is any one shocked the only goal we have came off a JWP corner? I know Bertrand score din this game but no one assisted it, which is why it was such a good goal
-
I don't just think its about a settled team, I mean JWP created 3 clear cut chances against Everton and gets dropped for this game, admittedly we did look better ( but we all know Leicester game plan is to sit back soak up pressure and hit ppl on the break ) and Redmond had a slightly better game ( although most of this was down to Bertrand ), but we went from 3 clear cut chances to 0 again just like at Burnley 0 clear cut chances, plenty of attacking football, but 0 end product the final ball into the box was bad all game even the 12 corners did not have any real quality on it, so I have to question why are best passer is not on the field. Redmond ratings now, 6 - 5 - 6 and ppl think he is playing good.
-
TBF, the final ball was bad all night, and even though we had a fair few chances at goal, none of them was clear cut chances.
-
Thought Lemina played better than Redmond who did link up well with Bertrand and had a gd game, but his final ball was a constant let down and his giving it away with only Bertrand losing possession more, but Bertrand did get him self on the score sheet.
-
well I cant argue with that, none of it and agree that I don't really rate either that highly. But we have to make use of what we have, and JWP dead balls are not that bad, we missed a few sitters against Everton because of his set pieces which could / would have won us the game had Austin / Ings not missed the chances not to mention a few through balls long balls and about 3 crosses into the box that could have been scored off ( he did create pretty much every thing we did against Everton while Redmond created not one single chance ), he got 2 goals from free kicks last season, good enough for me as no one else got more than 1 in the league. Either way I would rather Sims over both of them but that's a different story.
-
ill rather JWP on the pitch than Redmond, reasons? Better passing, tackling, positioning, vision, his corners and free kicks, his organisations skills in the midfield, and his defensive work, the fact i believe he will pick out Ings more than Redmond who will be lucky to get 3 assists this season like last season, Is more motivating than the screamer Redmond, and is more likely to do a good job rather than just a decent job. but then I want us to play 4231 and in this formation JWP on the right offers more than Redmond on the right as Moi and Armstrong will be left and central so only the RM space will be open as I hope MH wont use the horrid 532 much more. who would u rather have? and why? I wont slate or nothing, just this is a forum so curious who you would pick
-
I wouldn't say ****e, decent, but out of the two I know who I would rather have playing, and its the one that brings more to the team than just running at ppl and then fireing blanks and screaming at every one cause he lost the ball.
-
Not really Redmond only has 4 more Apps than JWP, stayed on the pitch Longer, yet the better out of the two was clearly JWP over the length of two season, in fact, since they both started playing, JWP has more prem goals and assist than Redmond even though he has less prem games, and so far in 2 games this season JWP has also played better and created more than Redmond, some more stats for you, ready?, only stats Redmond beats JWP at is dribbling, and acceleration and a slight bit more pace. he has nothing else over JWP, in fact on every thing else JWP is way better. Vision, creativity, Passing, tackling, positioning, team play, work rate, Stamina, marking, corners free kicks ,pens and intelligence he is so far ahead of Redmond its like going to the moon and back "Of course set pieces aren't irrelevant if you take the majority of free kicks and corners ( not to mention the odd penalty) it increases your chances of getting goals and assists over a player who never takes any. " JWP has taken 2 Pens for us in his time at Saints, took 2 scored 2, would u even trust Redmond from the spot when a simple 5 - 10 yard pass is complicated enough? and free kicks when 5 - 10 yards is complicated for Redmond, a pass over 11 yards would probs give him a seizure, I think that says enough about Redmond to be honest, Reason why he don't take them when on the field and JWP does, is cause Redmond cant take them.
-
Since Redmond has been at Saints, JWP is 1 goal behind and 7 assists ahead of dear Redmond, he also has played 1.7 k less mins than Redmond and has a combined better goals per 90 min and assists per 90 min and the latter JWP is absolutely destroying Redmond on.
-
maybe, 4 goals 5 assist in 2 k mins compared to 8 goals and 1 assist in 5 k mins, I guess yeah he does out score JWP only by like 0.02 % per 90 min though, hardly what you would call spectacular considering Redmonds assist rate in only 0.3 % per 90 min during that season and despite player loads less JWP in the next season both out scores and out assist dear Redmond... shocking that I would say its more JWP is taken for granted and managers and fans do not appreciate just how much he does compared to the players ppl say should be starting ahead of him, since Koeman and Poch left.
-
yes I know that, but he also spent less than 2 k mins on the field that season, Redmond managed nearly 5 k mins
-
8 goals 1 assist In his first season for us in 50 apps, so im guessing around 4.2k mins
-
and how many mins, games and seasons do you think he should get given to show he can do it?
-
I was replying to Greenridge who said you was referring to Koeman, I just sated that Koeman was not even manager of Saints when we brought Redmond, unless you think he was too? whooopssssss….... please go read post #46 As you said, Redmond much better player than JWP cause his assists and goals and his losing possession and his 100 % passing accuracy and his tackling and his interceptions and his general attacking intelligence is just miles ahead of any body in the league that even Sky sports and every one could not see how he was so great at a 10 / 10 rating against Everton they are all so blind his highest rating any where in the world he got was a 5.6. but ok, your right, Redmond 10 % must start every game cause he is miles ahead of every thing we have even though every one but Redmond has at least created more than 2 chances in 30 mins + of time on the field. An attacking inside forward who cant create chances and cant score goals and cant cross and cant pass and has 0 vision. Yep, must be Redmond.
-
yes was at both games, but just to save any more arguments, Redmond was the best player at Everton, he created all the chances we failed to score and never gave away possession or misplaced a pass, all the time while this was going on, JWP did the opposite.
-
Redmond was not here when Koeman was manager, so he cant be meaning Koeman surely? I cant remember once when Koeman put Redmond out above Mane and Tadic like ever...…………………. Koeman left Southampton 14 June 2016, Redmond signed On 25 June 2016 and didn't make his debut till 13th August 2016 in a match that he scored his first goal for us under Puel, since then, he has gone on to score 8 goals and 4 assist in the EPL for us in 70 apps.
-
you really think Pep thinks Redmond is a good player? you really think he was praising Redmond when he was up in his face shouting and grappling him like some rag doll was cause he was not being a top player? SERIOSULY If pep thought Redmond was so SPECIAL why did Pep not jump to grab him at City? why has no top 6 club looked at him? JWP considering the mins he gets out performs Redmond really badly at Redmonds JOB while also playing in a none favoured position and gets far less mins than Redmond. Redmond may look better on the ball, but as a player, he is behind JWP and it hurts ppl to admit that JWP is becoming a good player, Last two seasons JWP has been the 2nd most creative player behind Tadic and still PLAYED HALF TADICS MINS AND REDMONDS!!!!!!! ( not including Bertrand even though he is are most creative player but not counting defenders ) Also add what tajjuk said how long you going to argue Redmond is better than JWP when stats and recent performances say other wise? I don't care how many step overs a player can do or how he goes past players, as I don't count 1 man as a team, I count the players who play more like a team and Redmond falls way short of a team player.
-
but he created nothing, no chances created the full game against Everton 2 games played 2 chances created both against a poor Burnley side, JWP 60 mins 5 chances created and at least 2 should have been goals had Austin and ings both put the 6 yard out corners by him in the net, he at least had an effort on goal in this time against a much stronger team in Everton in which Redmond did nothing all game but put his own team on the back foot, how many chances you think JWP would have created against Burnley had he played? I reckon more than Redmond, I think Tadic would have torn Burnley a new back end too but ofc he is not here any more. Redmond, is not as good a JWP stats prove it as over the time Redmond has been here JWP has been the more consistent and more creative player even though he has played far less mins than Redmond, yes Redmond has 3 more goals to his name, but he also has a hell of a lot more mins on the field than JWP.
-
Southampton: McCarthy (6), Cedric (5), Stephens (5), Hoedt (5), Bertrand (5), Ward-Prowse (6), Lemina (5), Romeu (5), Redmond (5), Austin (5), Ings (6). Subs: Long (6), Gabbiadini (5), Armstrong (n/a). Lets see, Cedric, Stephens, Hoedt, Bertrand, Lemina, Romeu, Redmond and Austin all got a 5, JWP Ings and McCarthy was are best 3 players...…… Redmond made more misplace passes than the full Saints team put together, he also lost possession the most. I repeat, against Everton, Redmond was are worst player.
-
Cant really say that though, JWP has created more chances than Redmond and at least had a shot at goal in 60 mins of game time to Redmonds 180 min + injury of game time and JWP never got on the field against a pretty average Burnley side and managed a better performance than Redmond against a very good Everton team in which Redmond was the worst player on the pitch.
