Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES
mrfahaji replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
Surely the problem is that whether it's Islamic or Right-Wing terrorism, one tends to breed the other. Doesn't really matter which one is statistically worse if we end up seeing an increase in both. The reason many people are at pains to defend Islam after attacks is because the perpetrators want our societies to be divisive, because it helps their cause. It doesn't mean it should all be swept under the carpet and made out like we don't have an issue of course, but it's too easy to point the finger and say "muslims again". In much the same way that it's easier to point the finger at benefit fraudsters as a defence for low taxes and scrapping the welfare state when a deeper analysis suggests inequality creates far greater problems for society at large. -
Good spot, should have gone with 'incorrectly', sounds better.

One thing we can count on if we appoint Vieira is that the majority of people on here will spell his name wrong.
-
I wasn't suggesting him as someone I'd want, just whether his profile fits with some of the clues we've seen. I don't know much about Paulo Sousa, but from what I've read he might be worth considering. Only thing is I think he plays with a back three as his plan A.

Funny, I thought the Pony tick was generally considered a terrible kit at the time and yet has weirdly aged well, even though it has all the hallmarks of a kit which shouldn't have done. The red one I mean, the blue one is still a monstrosity!
-
And even Puel wasn't a disaster. Someone who had some good ideas, did some good things, came up short in one or two areas but still managed a decent league position and a good performance in a cup. I guess the biggest puzzle with Puel is that one of his issues did seem to be communicating with the players (either through language or force of character), and it's a wonder how that didn't flag up in an interview...!
-
If the other manager is indeed German, how does Klinsmann fit the clues? I'm not advocating him by any means, but for example, ericb said he had heard an exciting name a few weeks back. I wouldn't be one of them but to some people Klinsmann would be quite an exciting name, wouldn't he?

White shorts would have improved the away kit. But overall am pleased. Think the away looks better on the hook/hanger than on the players, but in general I think away kits can be a bit more experimental. I am a fan of stripes and wouldn't want us to stay away from them too long, but this home shirt is the one that makes it acceptable. Love it, especially with the white socks.

Blimey that is a tough looking quiz...
-
Especially as some stats have him ranked very poorly (i.e. % of shots saved)! It would be bad enough to purely judge based on statistics, but seems like this guy is judging based on ONE stat!

Puel Sacked? - As Reported by Crook of Sh*t

Tend to agree. Also, is his managerial record that good? There are quite a few managers in Europe who have done pretty good jobs with small clubs, Mendilibar at Eibar, Sacristan at Sociedad, Gasperini at Atalanta and Di Francesco at Sassuolo. Alaves finished 9th and lost in a cup final, if that in itself is impressive then... well you know where this is going! I'd happily listen to opinions of Pellegrino's history and style, as I don't know. Equally, I don't know much about those other managers I've listed, but just making the point that we shouldn't look at one or two factors and assume they're great managers. -

Fantastic article, hit the nail on the head in every paragraph! -

Indeed! Would be nice to know whether his name has been given much or any mention on here...? -
Not sure of the exact boundaries but as well as the obvious posh bits, there are also a few large estates in West Kensington and Ladbroke Grove who you would associate more labour voting with. Sure there is a bit of a Brexit-backlash as well, but not as much across the capital as I'd expected/hoped.

Nope, I've got nothing either...

The list of managers we've decided we're not interested in goes on ;-)

Is this definitely true? Spoke to a colleague who watches/follows German football and he said he thought Tuchel was more impressive than Schmidt, and that Schmidt should really have done better (this season at least) with Leverkusen. He might be wrong, I have no idea myself. -

Except St Etienne will know that too. Are they going to pay up for his services, knowing that by sitting it out for a couple of weeks they could avoid doing so? Sounds like something of a Mexican Standoff. -
Privately. (As in, other Saints players)

Virgil is copping some flak from the other players about all this stuff, telling him he's going to have to stay now Hopefully that points to good morale but it probably just reflects that players aren't bothered about the fact he wants to leave and that they're all just passing through, going though the motions!
-
Agree, but there were times that he couldn't really be bothered for us. Sunderland home (1-1, Fonte red card) was one of the most obvious displays of not giving a sh1t I've ever seen, to the point I thought he must be injured. That being said, when he got the ball he was still a threat, such is his ability. I thought he might remain inconsistent after his move and it might be something which hampered how good he eventually became, but looks like it was just a case of 'being bothered' as he hasn't suffered with the same issues at Anfield.
-
Hmmm not sure about Mane being inconsistent for Liverpool, certainly not in the way he was for us. The inconsistency to me seemed to be that Liverpool were good when Mane played, and weren't when he was injured/afcon...
-
He looks decent. Though if Sigurdsson to Leicester rumours are true I'll be disappointed we haven't given that one more of a go.
-
"The second point here is that Leverkusen want to shoot the ball quickly. So they’re surging forward and always looking for a chance to have a pop at goal. One suspects that the offseason signings of Hakan Calhanoglu and Karim Bellarabi were made because both players are skilled shooters from distance." He'll be delighted with what our midfield has to offer then!
