    Is that a Goebbels quote?
  2. Admins, isn't it time that the following rule be changed from: To: For me there is a very thin line between 'inciting' and 'supporting'... Some of the posters on this thread are either in support of football violence (possibly inciting it in the future?) or else they are desperately trolling for a reaction.
  3. Think I know which of these witnesses I trust more. Violence is never right. The concept of 'grassing' is stupid. I don't want to live near a thug, whichever team he/she supports. If anyone recognises the thug in the picture, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 SRS - your views on violence and the law are disgusting
  4. Miscalculated? Not if you read what Saint John said about Lowe on the tube train... Deliberate IMHO. Definately the lowest point for me was watching Lowe having stabbed us (by screwing us up both on and off the pitch), then get to twist the knife (by declaring admin (deliberately) just after the deadline). Agree entirely, that was so embarrassing. I stood and watched and felt so ashamed of anyone on the pitch. Like a field of Burberry This season, all the hope, all the anticipation, only to have to sit through the awful Colchester home game. No goals against 10 men...

http://i35.tinypic.com/2luc5jd.jpg This shows (roughly) the closest political party to each part of the chart. Did this by plotting where Political Compass puts the UK parties, and halfing the space between each of them, so that each part of the chart is coloured according to the party that it is closest to. [NB political compass doesn't have UKIP, but I imagine if they did they would sit somewhere between Labour and the BNP? (perhaps further to the right?). But basically, with only a couple of notable exceptions, most of the responding posters so far would be best off voting either Green of Lib Dem...

Here's my take on what the areas of the chart mean (I might be wrong...) http://i33.tinypic.com/2vcum1u.jpg It's hard to place anarchists though, as essentially they are outside of the chart. If we take Wiki's definition then an anarchist is: "No rulership or enforced authority." "Absence of government; a state of lawlessness due to the absence or inefficiency of the supreme power; political disorder." "A social state in which there is no governing person or group of people, but each individual has absolute liberty (without the implication of disorder)." "Absence or non-recognition of authority and order in any given sphere." So on the left/right (economic) axis an anarchist would want no government at all, this means they would have to be on the extreme right line. But they could be anywhere in the liberal/authoritarian axis: (a punk anarchist (authoritarian), would be in the top right corner; while a 'hippy' anarchist (liberal) would be in the bottom right corner).

So SWF members are mostly natural green voters then?

Not that iv'e posted yet on this thread... but think this makes my positions clear without needing too many words: http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-5.62&soc=-7.49
  9. Similar happened to me. Was in Chiang Saen, when I noticed a elderly man wearing a Sanderson lightblue/yellow away kit (98?). I ran up to him and shook his hand, but he looked thoroughly confused, and when asked about football, said "Man U" with a big grin... Oh well...
  10. Great article (I've never said that about anything in the Daily Heil before!)... Not sure I agree with this bit though: "Portsmouth do not need one extra fan, they already have thousands of them."
  11. It's fun to watch them sink, but far too early to say they're certain to be down already! Yes they have 23 games (outside of the top 4 teams) to play, but I think the assumption that they need 40 pts is misleading. The premiership gulf between the best and worst 6 teams is greater than it's ever been. Teams like Spurs and Man City are unlikely to drop many points against the bottom teams. I'd predict that the top teams pick up more points than usual, while the 3 teams to go down are all on record low points... I don't know how many points will bring safety, but I bet it's closer to 35(or perhaps less) than it is to 40. (PS singing Storrie's name! How desperate is that?)
  12. Had Camara been at SMS yesterday he would have had the run of the game. I would be suprised if he hadn't got a brace, and probably brought Lambert into the mix to net a couple too... Oh, if only!
  13. I'm still disappointed today. The 'team' didn't look like they'd ever met each other; each played by themselves, passes without runs, runs without passes, crosses to thin air. A bit more time, and I'm sure things will start to gel. (*Fingers crossed*). Why do we stand off teams? Why do we wait for them to try and play against us? We seem totally unable to change the way we play. When you're at home, your opponents aren't anything special, have been reduced to 10 men and lost another of their first choice players through injury, what do you do? Certainly not sit back for 60+ minutes waiting for your opponents to attack. All we needed to do was turn the pressure on, push them back into their own half, but instead we sat back. I hope AP sorts this out in training asap. I disagree with many of the player ratings above. For me the outstanding performers were Davis and Trotman. Trotman seemed to be winning almost everything, putting in the tackles, tracking back, winning in the air; but more than anything he was showing some heart - at points he looked like the only player who actually wanted to win. Harding - another player you all seem to rate, and yes he was generally good, but twice in the first half he failed to track the winger, giving away too much space, and not closing down. These two failures led to Colchester's two best chances of the whole game. Harding isn't a 'kid' and should not be making silly mistakes. Lallana - Did not have an exceptional game. Yes he had flashes of talent, a couple of runs, and couple of side steps. He obviously has skill, but still doesn't seem able to apply it. For me he was best when on the right (much much better than Mellis). Mills - Why the criticism? Yes he needs to work on his crossing, but he created more hope than almost anyone else all game. All he needs to do is look up and time his crosses... if he learns to do that he could be very dangerous at this level. Paterson - Should be fined a days wage each time he's caught offside... he'd then soon learn to watch their defenders! If he can get the basics right, he might come to something. But frankly if you're always offside, how can you expect to actually get to have a shot? Back to training for me. Thanks to Trotman we are now okay at the back... and Jaidi should give us one of the better defences in the league (still concerned by Harding though)... but going forward we need to find some pace, and some more creativity. We need someone who has pace who can cross (not from the half way line, James!), but from the touchline. I don't want to pin too many hopes on Papa Waigo... but otherwise we look seriously lacking. We need to do some serious work on perception. Paterson: learn to watch the defensive line; Mills, Lallana, Thomas, Thompson: lookup and identify a player before you attempt to blaze a cross into nowhere. Whole team: push up and attack when you perceive that the opponents are on the back foot and there for the taking! FFS
  14. Matty didn't get a throw in? Did he miss the pitch altogether;or forget to use 2 hands?
  15. And Charlton have been sniffing around him... so if we did put a bid in it would add fire to what Nexstar posted on the other thread:
  16. The problem with the points deduction is it penalises the club and supporters, but doesn't really penalise the people who caused the problem in the first place. A far more effective penalty would be that all of the directors of any club entering administration are prevented from becoming directors of any club in the league for the following X years. Thus, any club entering administration would need to change its directors before the beginning of the following season, as otherwise the club's registration would be prevented. The number of years a director would be 'banned' for would increase if the club failed to come out of administration, or failed to pay back all of its outstanding debts etc. This way, the club and fans are not penalised, but the directors have a very big reason to avoid admin!
  17. B - Do we need new players? Yes. Do we need new players FAST? Nope, more important to get the right players over the next few weeks, than to rush into anything we might regret B - No not at all frustrated, yet. However, if we still have the same squad when the window closes I'll be far less happy. D - Same. I am still equally optimistic. D - Partially. I have more confidence in the training, and tactics. A better question to ask might be: Is it more important to sign a player fast; or wait a few weeks and sign the right player?

I see what you mean... but for some reason I do have a twinge of sympathy for them... (perhaps I'm too much of a wooly liberal?) Sympathy is one of the most patronising things. I think this is why many Cherries don't like us, the 'little brother' thing is so patronising that it really sticks in their throat... A little bit of sympathy for Pompey (genuine of feigned) would do several things, it: Would rise above the abuse they gave us Would annoy their fans a great deal more than almost anything else we could do (certainly more than abuse) And we'd get to keep the moral high ground... Is (feigned) sympathy more annoying than abuse?

I feel dirty, but for some reason I feel slightly bad for the blue few... it must be awful for them.. Is it wrong for a League 1 fan to feel sympathy for a Premiership club? Even if they are skates?

    drummers?

Drums are a superb idea... they would complement the half-time entertainment, crap beer and music after goals... If only they'd put some teen movies on the big screens for people who aren't interested in the footie, and perhaps sell corn dogs, and have jugglers for the kids? Almost the perfect 'matchday experience' for SFC 'customers' such as us...
  21. Thank you Duncan, this was new information to me. Those arguing that we should no longer be discussing this - why ever not? Yes a 'clean break' has been made... and yes there are new faces in charge... but surely any peice of Saints history is open to discussion on a Saints forum? Are you suggesting that words such as 'Monkou', 'Svensson' or even 'MLT' should also be banned as part of 'wiping the slate clean'? Or is it just words such as 'Pinnacle', and more specifically 'Lowe' that you want to purge?

You mean this incident in Newport? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/901723.stm What you are confusing it with is the Paulsgrove riots a few weeks earlier: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/870837.stm Hmmm, either way, what a stupid bunch...
  23. Whether he is lazy or looks lazy is frankly irrelevent. His Southampton stats say it all 24 goals from 62 games (including 17 substitutions)... I don't care if he seems lazy or unmotivated, he nets every 3rd game, which is better than any other striker we've had since Crouch.
  24. I absolutely agree. Sure in the Premiership a few million was not really worth much at all; but in League 1 it's a huge sum of money. I remember speaking to some Walsall fans back in about 2002, who were excited by a sell-on clause they had on Ricketts. Ricketts was at the time highly rated, and there was talk of a 6 or 7 million valuation. As Walsall had a 20% sell on clause their fans were dreaming of netting about 1 million... "the sort of money we've never had " A million to spend in League 1 is an awful lot!
  25. I disagree. If next season we are relegated by losing every game 6-5, but fight to the last and play attractive football, then we'd have a higher attendance than if we have a a scrappy half-hearted season of draws and 1 nils, that means we just miss out on the league 1 play off... Of course I could be completely wrong.
