  1. Thing is there were two P&O ships called Oriana; the SS Oriana (1959) and the MV Oriana (1995). The SS Oriana sailed from Southampton in the 60s and 70s.
  2. Reminds me of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U%C5%BEupis#The_Republic_of_U.C5.BEupis
  3. No, the Quay don't seem to have any clips on their site, so I doubt it can be found. The few mention it on this thread (requires login):http://www.pompeyonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56531&page=4 Key points from the Rob Lloyd interview (as summarised by a skate) are: Love the Branson bit
  4. "The stupid pretty one, meets the stupid rich one"
  5. They could threaten to block any attempted promotion to the Premier League for the next 20 years?
  6. This 'Premiership will bail them out' rumour is nonsense. It stems from the club being able to secure a 4-6month loan against future parachute payments. Quite simply, a lender will give Pompey c. £12-13m now, and will expect repayment of £16m in full in July/August. There is no way the Premiership themselves will gift or loan any money whatsoever; as Scudamore told the skate supporters a few months back, the Premiership is not a bank, it doesn't have loads of money in reserve. It's find a rich idiot or go bust time in Skatesville.
  7. Thank goodness it's just the start of worse to come then.
  8. At their current 0.655 points per game, they would have taken 14 games to accrue 9 points...
  9. 'Facts' can be easily misconstrued. In the UK about 40% of people from ethnic minorities live in low-income households (compared to about 20% for people from white backgrounds). Poverty has a well established correlation with crime.
  10. Yup, 27,228 people watched a team who were bottom of the table, with only 3 wins to their name all season lose 3-2. Having entered admin we were destined for the drop. Our team of talentless thieves and wannabies had the inconvienance of a weekly game of football to play, but at least they could switch off once they were on the pitch and dream about forthcoming nightclub adventures. While media reports of the Charlton match talked of "Southampton are likely to fold before the end of the season", at least half the players didn't care, as they knew they would be able to get "dream moves" to Swansea or Plymouth. Perhaps I do them an injustice? Getting 27K fans to willingly pay for 90minutes of self-inflicted depression was a minor miracle. Very few teams would have been able to find such a large number of fans under such appauling circumstances. Partially agree, but you make a major assumption. Up until now Markus has only gifted us money, why do you assume that he would change and start loaning us money? If we were definately going to take on £80m debts I would understand the negativity on this thread. Would you be happy to 'gamble' the move to a bigger stadium if Markus were gifting the entire cost, rather than making it a loan? Oh, and out of interest, how many tickets do you think we could sell for say Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, City or United? 35K? 40K? [Don't forget a 50K stadium would have 5k away fans... so we'd only have 45k tickets to sell. I'm confident each of these games would sell out.] Of course we didn't sell out every game. It's the season average you need to look at: 2002: 30,633 (93.7%) 2003: 30,680 (93.8%) 2004: 31,699 (96.9%) 2005: 30,610 (93.6%) So no, we didn't sell out every game. But then, we didn't sell out every game at the Dell either did we? You could argue that because we were only selling 97-99% of the tickets for games at The Dell, that we simply wouldn't have enough fans to fill a larger stadium.
  11. Err, think you're forgetting to include the anti-Lowe stayaways.
  12. Of course we wouldn't want to be saddled with another massive mortgage. I was making the assumption that Markus would continue making financial gifts, and not start making loans. Don't forget the real estate holds it's value more than players do when it comes to re-sale value (ie more of the money invested in infrastructre will be recooped upon sale of the club).
  13. Why anyone would oppose a move to a bigger stadium is beyond me. The income generated (both via tickets and facilities) would significantly help the club afford better players, and if we ever ended up in administration again would attract wealthy investors. SMS is adequate in everyway, but it would be absolutely crazy to oppose moving. My preference would be to buy some of the land owned by the docks, near the Hovis building/old car auctions. Would be very close to the station, away from residents, and close to the main flyover for drivers escaping towards the M271. Oh and plenty of pubs would still be walkable.
  14. Why all the negativity?
  15. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?cid=7238880676474772780&q=Jacksons+farm+uk&hl=en&cd=1&cad=src:pplink&ei=A4SaS_2oFIiLOOP2oLgD HTH
  16. Do I really need to clarify that?
  17. Possibly, but could a stadium be demolished and a new one built in a single summer break? If (for example), a part of the docks, or some other central land was avaliable for development... and the board have the ambition, then why not I say.
  18. On the recent 'expand the Kingsland' thread, didn't somebody point out that the additional 8000 seats would cost over £3k each (i.e. upwards of £24m for a 40k seater stadium. How much would it cost to expand even further, to 50k say? As this wasn't in the original plans, surely this would cost even more than £3k per seat. If 50K capacity or more is the ambition, might it not actually be cheaper to start from scratch rather than expand?
  19. While the 'they're toast' comments are OTT, they are significantly more accurate, and significantly less annoying that the 'they'll get out of it' nonsense. Personally feel that they are going to really stuggle for at least a decade, and that it is more likely that they will be liquidated over the coming years than it is that they will find a new billionaire. Their best hope will be if Gaydamak Snr wins his court case, and can un-freeze some more cash to be cleaned, but frankly it's a longshot.
  20. IMO this is not the case.
  21. And so this thread gets to continue for a bit longer.... IMO opinion today's news is the best possible outcome. Instead of being able to form a new 'untarnished' club, the Few will have to suffer a protracted death. As already discussed on here countless times, they are about as unattractive as a football club can get, no assets, still massive running costs, almost certian lack of a CVA, etc. In fact, barring anything fishy, the chances of them getting a new (legit) owner are negligable. How long will Chainrai be willing to finance the administration cirus? 4 weeks? 8 weeks? until some players can be sold? I think there is a good chance the Administration process will end up in liquidation. I hope not, as personally I want to watch the Few suffering. So grab the popcorn, sit back and enjoy the slow demise of the nastiest little club in the country. Premiership 2009/2010 -9 Championship 2010/2011 -20 League One 2011/2012 - ??
  22. Sounds like Widley Chimes has the same contact: http://thepompeychimes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=56192&start=0
  23. Pompey's 18.5K attendance vs Birmingham was increased to such heady numbers because it was the game selected for the freebie tickets which were given away to all the snow shovellers earlier this year. They don't even sell out when they give the tickets away.
  24. Not directly related to the Few, but Cardiff are back in court today with Registrar Derrett... http://www.walesonline.co.uk/cardiffonline/cardiff-news/2010/03/10/city-to-ask-taxman-for-extra-time-91466-25999051/
