  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusades http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Ireland_troubles etc Certainly can think of plenty of examples of extreme Christians and Muslims. Can any one think of examples from the worlds other major religions? Extreme Buddists? Or Extreme Atheists anyone?
  2. Nice idea... but using that method would leave Kelvin as the outstanding candidate (followed closely by Jos and Fonte...)..[Weren't loads of people on here backing Harding as player of the season only 2 years ago... how times have changed!]

Interesting that when Chell left Man City got better... No offence to the chap , but there's no evidence that he was all that effective. Bit like a manager we recruited last year who had 15 years experience at Microsoft. 6 month and c. £60k later we parted company after he managed to fail to sell a thing. Seems to me that average people can easily have been excellent CVs. Anyhow, that's my last post of the day spent. Have a good night of trolling Turkish.

Not talking about telesales, more top end account managers. Certainly my company has released about 4 of them in the past couple of years once they'd failed to live up to their CVs. These sorts of recruitment are never easy, and I agree that I hope we are learning how to spot a duff appointment. I'm just glad we aren't settling for average.

Always hard to recruit good salespeople. Even ones with the perfect CV and patter can fail when it comes to meeting targets. Best solution is to give them a shot, then release them before the end of their trial 6th month. My company has certainly used this process to sort the wheat from the chaff.
  6. No, Britain can no longer be considered a Christian country HTH. Oh, and who's up for celebrating the period around the shortest day of the year, it would make a nice break mid winter. We could all take time off work, drink too much and spend some time with the folks. Thankfully Christmas has little to do with wise men and mangers any more, it's become a truly panreligious festival.
  7. Unfortunately it will be sung. IMO, 'Wind up' is much better. It sounds less like 'Play', but also works on 2 levels (liquidation mixed with provocation...)
  8. They all share the fact that they play up front? They also share the fact that the media has linked them with pretty much every upper championship and lower premiership team (well except for Hooper). Some of the above so far have an average championship record (Beckford, Mackaill Smith, Lukas etc). Others, like Hooper have an excellent track record. One things for certain, we will have scouted all of the above, and know we have placed bids for c. 3 of them. We don't know whether our bids were ridiculously low, or whether their current teams simply don't want to sell, or whether the players themselves simply didn't want to join us. How you can bash Cortese based on such unknowns is beyond me.
  9. Worst thread i've seen on here in a long time. We simply don't know what is happening behind the scenes, so how can we discuss it. Cortese, might well be offering silly low bids, but equally he might be being rebuffed by chairmen demanding £35m or more for £7m players.
  10. I'd wait a few days, offer them an overpriced offer for one of their better players, delay on negotiations, then drop out of the running with 10 mins of the window remaining. Fun, but evil.

  13. I'm just wondering about Android's timing. Why has he decided to make this information pubic? Obviously, it had to come out at some point, but it's release is likely to have been provoked by some other event IMO (otherwise, I'd guess he'd stay stum for as long as he possibly could). Having thought through the scenarios, I'd say there are several contenders which might be worth consideration: 1) AA is trying to protect his own career. Perhaps someone was threatening to leak the tax info, or perhaps AA didn't want the news to be broken externally (with the blame for witholding placed firmly at his (and Limpet's) doors. Perhaps he feared HMRC were about to inform the press? 2) Perhaps, the tax news has something to do with a potential buyer. Possibly, if there is some form of reluctant fan with a few million weighing up the pros and cons of a bid, possibly this news might have been released to try and demonstrate to them how critical the situation is (and force them to rush?). Obviously, this would be a high-risk gamble, and any half-sane business person would see the warning signs and run... but a fan with say, £25m in the bank... it's a long shot. 3) Perhaps AA has run out of any interested parties. Perhaps he thinks his best strategy is to drip-feed the situation to the media, so that the bad news doesn't come as a big suprise. If all of his soundbytes were upbeat, then out of the blue he puts the club into admin, or sells their best players (sic) there would be uproar amongst the phew. If this is the case, all hope is lost for the skates, and the only unknown is the speed of their death. 4) Baloo is up to something? Perhaps, by making the situation sound awful, Chainrai hopes to ride in as a hero infront of the celebrating blue hoards (all 250,000 of them! cough). [When's the next parachute due? And how much is left to weasle away?] Any other ideas?

  15. If the resultant network is operated by the state, and fares subsidised more than cars are, I'm all for it. If it's run by a private company, with no direct competion, and no fare cap I'd be very concerned. Overall, if well managed, this will be a brilliant boost to the UK, it will stimulate the UK economy, help reduce carbon emissionsm, and all for c. 1/4 of the annual cost of the Department of Work and Pensions. All in all, this is very much overdue.
  16. IMO, this would be too many new players. It might just work if we permanently lost Dickson, Holmes etc, but 4 new players (possibly on big saleries), stands a change of unsettling the dressing room. I would rate getting Hooper alone as having had a "major success" of a window...
  17. I haven't read the whole thread, but assume that it has gone completely off topic (as always). I just wanted to offer you my feedback (as requested). I observe that this forum has a wide range of opinions, and that the admins do a reasonable job of allowing all views to be represented while preventing abuse. Yes, some of the threads get nasty, but normally there is good reason for it - often someone trying to swim against the flow in a provocative manner. In fairness, a few of the worst posters have got away with endless wrecking of threads, and IMO should have by now been banned (Dune, Turkish etc). You mention 'euphoria'. This is not something that I can say I've noticed whatsoever on this forum; surprisingly so, seen as we are top of the league. In fact, I find this forum strangely pessimistic, considering the position we find the club in. I strongly believe that many 'normal' fans are put off by this endless pessimism, and I for one feel it is over-represented. As such, I have to find myself in almost complete disagrement with your opening post. BTW, Alps, you had a phase a few months back when I thought you were starting to improve the balance of your posts. I seem to even recall you being positive on a post-match thread. Sure the team haven't played well over the past 6 weeks or so, and while I feel it has made all of us less optimistic, it seems to have knocked you back into depressed mode. I do hope you can pull yourself out of it. Deep breaths, and look on the bright side. Chin up.
  18. Didn't Tadanari Lee score 2 from 2 attempts in the last season?
  19. No, that can't be right. You only ever seem to post on threads about Christianity, and always strongly in defence of the mythological bearded one (no, not Zeus, that other fictional chap). I find your stoic defence of Christianity rather illogical if you are indeed not a believer. Why don't you defend the rights of other religious beliefs? Afterall, there is nothing stupid about worshipping an invisible made up magical entity, for whom there is absolutely no evidence of their existence. I respect your right to think whatever you wish to, but if you believe in fairies, goblins, jesus, posidon, the great spaghetti monster or some other made up nonsense, I reserve the right to publicly ridicule your beliefs. Especially when our messed up society allows schools to indoctrinate the innocent and naive into believing such nonsense; when our political debates seek the views of these mythbelieving clerics; and when the whole unsubstantiated nonsense is thrown down our throats at this time of year (apparently our winter celebrations, have nothing to do with the Winter Solstice, but are about some boy who was born in the middle east or something). If I ever find out that my tax has been used to bolster the coffers of these myth believers in will be furious. I am genuinely offended by religion on a daily basis.
  20. Perhaps, but in my book, Lambert would become a mercenary if he put money over football. Let's say he signed for Leicester or Blackburn for a massive pay hike. As I see it Lambert was offered a chance to play for a club with facilities and ambition, of course the wage was attractive aswell. Based on your definition, are all footballers who move clubs for more money are automatically mercenaries? As for Christiano and his ilk, they can sod off. I don't care how well they can play football, if they insist of spitting dummies and chucking rattles then I'm only interested in them when the crash their ferrari or get banged up for tax evasion in later life. Just look at Tevez right now, that's all you need to know about primadonnas (or do you like funding players with his attitude?)
  21. Norwich certainly seems to have bought well, but I think the same can be said about us. We have both placed 'team' over 'talent', and are both buying quality intelligent players, but being careful that our signings don't have a negative impact on the team. I'm glad we seemed to act so wisely in the summer, buying, but refusing to over spend or unsettle the team. I'd rather we never bring in a mercenary again. I also wish some of our fans would stop bleating on about how we should have bought more players in the summer. Nichola and Nigel are doing really well at overseeing our steady transition; ensuring we bring in 2 or 3 new faces in each window, enough to improve the squad, without wrecking moral. I'd be as annoyed if we purchased 6+ players in January, as if we brought in nobody. Oh, and no primadonnas or thugs please.
  22. Why should anyone need a collective term for all of the various indigenous groups of non-European decent anyhow? What possible sentence can you be saying? Oh, yeah, of course, the need for such a collective term comes from the 'need' to distinguish between 'us' and 'them'. Of course the term 'black' isn't perfect, as it fails to take into account all of the potential racial variations that it is currently used to encompass. However, 'black' is a heck of a lot better than misusing the term coloured, unless of course you do mean to sweeping use a collective term for all of the non-white peoples of the world. However, I'm struggling to think of a sentence which has legitimate reason to separate white people from non-white people... (perhaps some genetic medical study? I honestly can't see any other reasons bar the narrow minded 'us' and 'them' type conversations, which usually end up decending into accusations of jobs being stolen, benefits being taken, or worse). As an aside, I think my kids will one day consider 'black' and 'white' to both be unacceptable. Who knows what the replacement terminology will be...
