Feel free to provide evidence of Lowe (or anyone) being my deity. The only way you can support your pathetic claims and agenda is to make pointless and pathetic attacks on others. You were a busted flush a long time ago Alpine. You give you support to some based on irrational hatred of others. No surprise then that you pitch up in Austria. I bet your only regret is that you are not there in the 1930's. You would have been right at home at the birth of the Super Race.
-
Ah Doctor Alpine, perhaps you would like to present your evidence? Persoanlly I think that you and your obsessive hatred of people you have never met and only know anything about through 3rd hand gossip on the internet far more indictive of having personal issues. In Burley's only full season with us he would have taken the team to the play off final if it hadn't have been for some poor penalties. What a dreaful dreadful failure he is. Yet the man you hail as some kind of hero came in and took us t the brink of relegation, but no scorn poured on him? Go figure. And before you state your we were dropping like a stone mantra - Burely's last ten games in charged yielding the same points level as Hoddles first ten games in charge, which was the best start for a Saints manager since the war. But don't let the fact inerfere with your agenda Alpine. You would have us believe that all was lost when Burley was here. It might not have been fantastic but it was certainly better than anything that has happened since.
-
Spot on. Sheep like Apline swallowed the spin hook line and sinker. What is really sad is that they still keep slagiing off the same old targets when they should be looking at themselves. Take Alpine's agenda for example. Because he has decided that all of our problems are down to Lowe he feels it necessary to slag him of, any any one associated with him, at every opportunity. Woodward and Burley were (and are) legitimate targets because LOwe brought them here. Burley was getting flak from Alpine even when we were chasing the play off spot. Then his agenda kicks in again when he nails his flag to the any one but Lowe brigade. Pearson comes in and winds fewer matcheds than Burley but gets Alpine's total support because a) apparently he is a decent chap and b) Lowe did not bring him in. Because subjectivity needs to be justified Alpine tells us that JP is a decent chap too but because the anti Lowe aganda needs to be fed, we are told that he is failing because of Lowe. Now to the best of my knowledge Alpine has bever met anyone who manages SFC. Certainly not Burley, Pearson or JP. Yet he is able, from his bunker in Austria, to determine that Burley is thoroughly despicable and deserving of being "lumped" but that Pearson and JP are both thoroughly decent types who he would happily have round to Chez Alpine for a slice of Black Forest gateaux on a Sunday afternoon. As far as I know Alpine has never met Lowe, Wilde, Crouch or any of these characters yet he makes statements about them as if he sits in the same board meetings and knows the innermost workings of their minds. I will give him his due though, he is very consistant and will slag off club members whether we are doing well or not. This is the man remember who thjought that Burley was deliberatley sabotaging our efforts to go up!!! Whatever you think of people at the club, be they board members or players, I believe that they do what they believe to be their best for us when they are here. Yes they make mistakes (and are not alone there as the majority of clubs do not achieve any level of success in a season). Yes, other people would do things differently but that does not mean they would do any better. Wilde and Crouch were both given a lot of support on here because a) they were not Lowe and b) they were supporters. Neither managed the expecations of the suporters and Crouch almost presided over relegation. SFC are not alone in having spent time in the top flight and are now struggling in the second tier, look around you. It happens. Lowe and Wilde have not had any influence on these other clubs. Every club has people at the top who are doing what they can they way they think best to get their club back to where the fans expect them to be. Most of these people are failing. It seems the only way that the Alpine brigade can deal with the disppointment of not being Chelsea or Manchester United isn to find targets to shoot at. Consequently Alpine will spend the rest of his days on here slagging off one person or another. What a waste of time and energy. If you do not enjoy the process of supporting a football club, why even bother?

I don't think that "Total Football" has anything to do with it. It is about brininging through your home grown talent. Unfortunately players like Bale and Walcott have gone otherwise it might be a different story - but I don't think anything is wrong with the basic philosophy. What you do need to do though is to blood the youngesters carefully and gradually integrate them into the senior team. Because of the financial plight too much has happened too soon.
-
I don't think that you does not see the problems. I think that he feels that, with our limited resources, this is the only way forward. It is hard to see where the money is going to come from to sort out the defensive frailties or lack of punch upfront. I don't think McGoldrick will ever be the player we needed him to be at this level. Without significant investment it is hard to see how anything is going to be turned round in the short term.
-
I suppose you think that if you repeat it often enough it will become so eh Alpine? The facts would speak otherwise though and three wins in 13 games nearly took us down. Burley was the last decent manager we had and if he was still here I think we would still be in the top half of the table. But you have your opinion and I have mine. And that is all they are. However, given that you stated that you wanted to punch Burley I am surprised that you are giving JP such an easy time. Odd isn't it. One man had the best record here since the war and his is crap and you want to punch him, another has one of the worst records but he is a decent bloke and you would probably let him marry your daughter.

Should have bought him years ago

Lost none of your insufferable arrogance I see then Steve. So after Strachan failed so dreadfully at Coventry would you say he was a huge gamble at the time? As you seem to know more about this than me, what was your take on the appointment of Lawrie Mac after Ted Bates? Bit of a gamble surely? Especially as he took us down. Still like using those rolly eyed thingies I see. So you (or your nephew) haven't grasped the fact that they make you come across like some spotty little 16 year old nerd who actually believes that by using them it makes your arguement more valid. FFS grow up.
-
"Gamble"? Surely employing any manager is always a gamble? We gambled on Redknapp's nous keeping us up and that failed miserably. That was a short term gamble. This is a long term gamble and I don't think it can be properly judged over a few months. They seem to have a 3 year plan. We will not know whether the "gamble" paid off or not for another two seasons.
-
There is a suggestion that this is just the start and the the numbers of home grown players in the squad will gradually increase. Perhaps Lowe was ahead of the game all along?

God the people on this forum are ridiculous...
sadoldgit replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
I know some Saints fans who do not post on internet forums and they could not give a t*ss about Rupert Lowe one way of the other. I think the majority of the people only worry about what goes on on the pitch. These places seem to draw in people with agendas. -
Bottom half of the table. I did think our home form would be better though and unless that improves we will go down.
-
You have to have be a special player to play up front without much if any support. If he had someone alongside him he might be better. If you are going to play someone in that role play someone who can play that role effectively. What did Linelker do outside the box? Strikers thrive on the right kind of service. WE are not currently playing the sort of football that will provide goals for a loan striker.
-
He has every right to sound ****ed off. Palace are not great shakes but when you defend like schoolboys you don't deserve anything out of a game. We didn't look like wanted to score tonight. My mates are Palace fans and said they felt we played the better football, but there was no fire in the last third. Some of their finishing was laughable (thank goodness) as they should have been one up inside the first few seconds and missed good chances later on.
-
Sadly you are right. Most teams now struggle to get by but for some reason large section of fans at every club think that their team has a divine right to have the best players, play the best football and to be up at the top of the Prem. The people running every club make mistakes but to read here you would think that our Chairman is the only one who does. Despite saying that they detest the spin coming out of the club, they jump on any snippet of information or gossip and spin it for all they are worth themselves. The last administration we had were very poor and left us close to relegation and blew what littel cash we had left. Do they get slated? No. Why? because they are not Rupert Lowe. If you come on here and try and redress the balance the playground mob kick in and start the abuse (Lowe Luvvie?) and any chance of a reasoned debate goes out of the window. Some people need to blame others and that will never change. At least they are getting off the players backs and only aimed their flak at Lowe, who cna take it all day long. These same people slated Burley for sticking with Davis and Davis himself. You watch. If Davis is now sold the same mob will berate Lowe for selling him. As UP would say, you couldn't make it up. Things are not great, but as you say, there are signs of hope. Isn't that why we supoort a football club? Because each week we hope that things are going to get better and that no matter how bad things are now, there is always a tomorrow and a chance of better things to come? The club will always be bigger than individuals. The peopel who come on here and pul it apart are just as much a problem for SFC as the people that they purport are "damaging" the club from within. I know I am not allowed to have an opinion a) because I only go to a couple of matches a year and b) because I don't hate anyone at the club, but I this club has been in my veins since 1966 and I am getting sick and tired of the negative brigade and the mob mentality. There used to a place, in fact there still is, where you could go online and discuss matters related to SFC in a reasonble manner with other like mided fans. It is a shame the same doesn't happen here. It really is not very difficlut to grasp. If people like the Nicks post in response to more knee jerk reactionary posts and try and balance things up, it doesn't mean that they are "Lowe Luvvies", it means that they can see that there are two sides to every arguement and situation. I am in the same boat. I can see that there have been positibves and negatives - as there are in every club - and I get fed up with all this reaction stuff too. It damages the club, it stiffles proper debate and it - not Lowe or who ever is running the club at the time - is what is "divisive" at SFC.
-
Oh dear Alpine, you do choose your heroes randomly don't you. Of course we were such a success both footballwise and financially under Crouch's control weren't we? And as for you blind allegance to Nigel "Three Wins" Pearson, he actually managed to take us to the brink of relegation. If Lowe had appointed him as manager we know full well you would still be leading the witch hunt on Pearson to this day.
-
That is your right of course. For me, I cannot see how anyone who professes to love the club would let one man affect that. I guess we shall just have to agree to disgree. I really don't get your point about "take take". What does he take exactly other than flak? If things had been so awful for all his time here maybe I could understand where you were coming from, but it simply has not been. If he had no regard for the supporters why would he even bother? He and his Boards have tried various avenues to provide success for this club. Some worked, some did not. If he was simply out to make money out of the club why would he have employed people like Strachan, Burley , Hoddle and Redknapp - none of them cheap options? Okay, so he is not Mr Nice Guy. We were very lucky in having someone like Ted Bates at the helm for so long, but times have changed. Most clubs have hard nosed businessmen at the helm, and for a reason. If Lowe was not here we would need someone very much like him. We went down the avenue of "fans" running the club and it made things even worse. If you truly care about this club you must learn to put your personal feelings aside and get behind the team. You look down on me because I only go to a few games a season. But at least I am consistant and will go to a few games a season no matter what. For someone who used to go regularly and now does not just because they don't like the bloke who runs things, I am sorry but I just don't get it. I have never once given a second thought to the CEO, Board or Chairman whilst at a match. Perhaps there is something wrong with me Stanley but I just do not understand where you are coming from.
-
You have lost me here. If someone is damned if they do and damned if they don't, how is that their fault? Be honest, what else could Lowe say. If you have a section of fans wetting themselves because they think the receipts from one game of football are going to change our financial situation overnight, isn't it the right thing to do to put this game into perspective? No doubt if he had said nothing and players had been sold in January you would be slating him for not telling us we were still in the poo. That is not Lowe being divisive it is someone with a mega agenda twisting any situation to have a pop at someone. No doubt now you will dig up a Churchillian quote to the effect of people who don't go to football games every week have no right to have an opinion now... Lowe is running things right now whether you like it or not. If you chose to pick on everything he does that doesn't suite you that is your choice. To call someone divisive when it is you and people like you who are making the situation so is a bit rich. You know who I am but will not reveal your identity to me, again your choice, but a bit cowardly wouldn't you say? If you are who I think you are, you have been a Saints fan long enough to know that Saints fans, in fact all football fans, are divided over a multitude of things that go on at their football clubs. If it is true that Lowe is actullay a divisive figure, doesn't that mean that he has supporters as well as detractors. If he has supporters that means there are people out there who think that he is doing things right does it not? If he was such a bad thing for the club, surely there would be no "divisiveness" as everybody would be against him. However, because you and others have decided amongst yourselves that you know best, you get to set the agenda and carry on this negative vibe which is doing nothing but harm to SFC. What the club needs now is for everyone to get behind it. You seem to have a lot of time for Churchill therefore I am sure that you will remember that Churchill joined forces with Stalin, despite loathing Communism, just to defeat Hitler. If someone were to suggest to you that you start going to matches again and getting behind the whole club, and by doing that it would help us out of this mess, somehow I don't think you would do that would you? I think you would much rather see us struggle so that you can aim more barbs at the bloke who happens to be running the show right now. You have to ask yourself this question, why is it your hatred of one man prevents you from getting behind your club? Lowe is not SFC, never has been, never will be. There are plenty of people who don't even give him a second thought when they go to football matches, and that is the way it should be. It is all about the players on the pitch. If you have lost sight of that and your enjoyment of the game, then I feel very sorry for you. But I would also say that it has nothing to do with Lowe and more to do with your own prejudices and mindsets.
-
I always find this hating someone you have never even meet most strange. Still it seems that more and more people are interested in what goes on behind the scenes rather than what happens on the pitch (didn't these forums used to be places where people came to exhcnage views on football?) but maybe that is a sign of the times? If, by some miracle, we made it to Wembley this year, I wonder how many people who are boycotting the club because of certain people would stay away? No doubt those same people we all cheering along at Cardiff mind you! We could well end the season mid tbale and stave off aministration, in which case I would say that the people running the club had done well. But still the Usual Suspects will be venting their "hate" propaganda on here. Most strange... We have shown some better form of late and there are real signs that we are turning things around on the pitch..shame that isn't the most important thing on some people's minds when they log on here.
-
LOL, he will keep his head down for a few days no doubt. He and the other wrist slitters must be gutted. So the end of the world is postponed a little longer... It is still going to be a long hard season but there is no reason why we can't get some more decent results like this and end up mid table.
-
Oh dear, we won....you must be gutted.

What did Duncan (Fitzhugh Fella) say on Radio Hampshire?
sadoldgit replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Can't be arsed to cross swords with you or your nephew and his smiley faces anymore, but I never said we were poor. I think I said we were often average or below and some times poor and that is supported by our empty trophy cabinet and league positions. Perhaps you are on the wrong fans site Steve? -
What did Duncan (Fitzhugh Fella) say on Radio Hampshire?
sadoldgit replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Steve, it is not "ridiculous, irrelevant or lame" at all. These are all similar sized clubs with similar aspirations. Charlton were even held up by those who know on here as being the club we should have been a few seasons ago. It is no accident that we are all where we are. Other simliar sized clubs currrently in the Prem will be where we are in a few years time. This has nothing to do with Lowe, as much as you (and your nephew) may wish to believe it. It is all about the game being controlled by money and the big clubs. No matter who runs this club, unless they are stupid rich they will have faced and will face the same economic constraints that the last boards have. You and many like you told us that anyone than Lowe would be better. Well we went down that road andf they actually made matters worse. -
What did Duncan (Fitzhugh Fella) say on Radio Hampshire?
sadoldgit replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Wes, would this be the same Duncan who quite freely said that he would rather SFC were relegated than Lowe stay in charge? Well, I don't know about you, but I think that speaks more about Duncan's own personal issues with Lowe than it does about his love for SFC. For me, I do not give a toss about who is in control as long as we DON'T get relegated. For goodness sakes, look at the clubs around us. All of them have had some success in the Prem as well as us and they are all in the crapper right now. How many of those other clubs does Rupert Lowe run exactly? I suppose it is Rupert Lowe's fault that Laura got voted off the X Facto last week too? Clubs like us get relegated every season and many struggle to adjuct. It is a fact of life. You can spend all day (as many here do) moaning and bleating on about it being all Lowe's fault and what an awful man he is to do such awful things to our football club.....but it ain't going to change a thing. If Duncan thinks that getting rid of Lowe will suddenly turn everything around he is very naive indeed. I suspect his critisism of Wilde and friends was muted because he used to spend hours telling us that "anyone but Lowe" was better. Well, it wasn't was it?
