  1. With great power comes great responsibility Whelk. It is good to hear that you do not abuse your position. A fine example to us all 👏
  2. Where did you appear on the list Whelk? Wallace is a relic of the 70’s mentality and God knows there are still plenty of those around. By the sound of it he has done nothing illegal and the public pile on has been over the top. If he is found to have behaved inappropriately then just remove him from his job. This character assassination in public is what you normally get on social media platforms. It is worrying that you can get hung, drawn, quartered and cancelled in days in the national media now. I’m no fan of Wallace and his recent comments do little to help his position, if anything they make it look worse, but things like this should be dealt with by the HR department, not trial by a national media pile on. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/gregg-wallace-news-masterchef-penny-lancaster-accusations-bbc-b2656720.html
  3. I thought that he had appointed east stand nic when I first saw this headline. https://www.rawstory.com/amp/trump-disaster-kash-patel-fbi-2670246884
  4. Hi Weston. Found another poster to stalk? Sad.
  5. For anyone interested, more information about the proposed Observer sale here. I’ll save you the trouble Batman, don’t bother. Why should we be concerned? The Observer is the worlds oldest Sunday newspaper. https://www.nuj.org.uk/resource/not-for-sale-save-the-observer.html
  6. Of course I understand it egg. I do agree with you but I also think that it is refreshing to see a politician say what they think rather than stick to political expediency. It’s all about money at the end of the day though and I don’t think P&O or Donald Trump would pass up an opportunity to make money over some uncomplimentary remarks.

    Russia

Yes, it doesn’t seem like he has a cats chance in hell of getting the land back but Putin is unlikely to agree to any kind of NATO membership either. How Zelensky can get a security guarantee without NATO membership, who knows?

    More grief for Putin. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cy5l50y76k3t
  9. Even Brighton, who are clearly a better team than us, nearly came unstuck a few times trying to play out from the back. The sooner this fad gets binned the better.
  10. My point is that what P&O did was wrong and that it would have been surprising if Labour hadn’t kicked off about it. Why is the point moot?

  12. According to the journo from The Telegraph on QT the other week the media in this country is pretty much all left biased. I just wish Fiona Bruce had asked him to name all of these left biased media outlets.
  13. If you are not interested, why bother to respond? Given the amount of right based media outlets in this country there is a worry about where it might end up - not that you would be bothered by another right leaning newspaper.

What on earth are you talking about and who has said that Trump is a war monger. If anything he is a total bottle job and looks likely to let Putin have what he wants rather than to stand up to him. Ukraine have been fighting under the restrictions that Putin doesn’t have. They now have the capability of defending themselves on a more equal footing. Why would you or we have an issue with that?
  16. I agree. Depending on who goes and who comes in of course, but we have the basis of a squad that should do well in the Championship (which is part of our problem now!).

    The Media

I couldn’t find a general thread about the media so here we go. I left The Guardian 24 years ago but still keep in contact with a few friends and colleagues on a WhatsApp group. It is all kicking off at the moment because the Scott Trust want to sell The Observer and have lined up the sale to a start up business called Tortoise Media. The jounos and general staff are up in arms and a “mutiny” is on the cards. Seems a strange move as The Observer is a natural bedfellow for The Guardian and they have never had a Sunday title before they bought it. A number of big names have already jumped ship.
  18. Why? Do you think that what P&O did was ok? I seem to remember plenty of Labour MPs kicking off about it at the time, including the current Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and why wouldn’t they? I also many derogatory remarks made by Labour MPs about Trump.
  19. All I can think of is that Archer didn’t expect the ball to come to him as the defender was skidding in to block it. He had milli seconds to react and couldn’t adjust himself quickly enough. Or perhaps I am being overly charitable and it was a Che Adams moment?
  20. I think you have hit the nail on the head. The system is open to interpretation hence is often more grey than black and white. The fact that many people can look at the same situation and come up with different conclusions says it all. God knows what the answer is. There are still people arguing that Stokes was offside in 1976 so there will always be disagreements. The saddest thing is that the system brought in to help correct decision making easier seems to have had the opposite effect (along with the actual off side rules themselves).
  21. You can try and take the moral high ground hypo but most of us have long memories. The alt-right avatar. “Thank god my wife isn’t a Muslim”. “socialism is dangerous.” I have lost count of the number of times you have immediately jumped all over my posts when I have criticised the likes of Tommy Robinson or Katie Hopkins (and then you pretended that you didn’t know who they are). You are and always have been a far right supporter/apologist even though you once said that you were “liberal”. You said earlier that I don’t believe what I say. Your opinions on here are the polar opposite to mine and yes, I do believe what I write. Fortunately there are a lot more people with liberal sensibilities posting in the Lounge now, but a few years ago the main noises were you and a few others with far right sympathies, so I was pretty much on my own. I notice that you finally stopped stalking me around the time I wasn’t one of the very few liberal posters. I have taken a lot of crap from you over the years and have given plenty back. Please don’t try and play the victim now.
  22. It was on LBC. You can listen to it on catch up if you like.
  23. Death related? I wasn’t wishing him dead so I don’t see how it is offensive. Less inappropriate than posting laughing emojis on posts about dead Palestinians?
  24. This is what I took exception to. Where is the respect in these comments? “When” not “if”. As I have said before, only focussing on possible negatives that may or may not happen at some point in the future.
  25. The reactions from the people who will benefit from this bill spoke volumes yesterday. More and more counties are moving in this direction. It is all about showing compassion and humanity and allowing people a choice. The focus on possible coercion is a side show. This isn’t going to affect most people anyway. I made my glib comment to hypo because you would think that this is eventually going to be all about getting rid of pesky sick people to read his comments. He posted that it was a sad day. Not to the people who think that this is a major step in the right direction and something that a progressive country should be doing it isn’t.
