You really are quite dense Weston. My point is that we no longer need to send humans to other planets having done it on the moon and have the advanced technology to send robots to other planets instead of humans. This has nothing to do with LBC but has everything to do with reading something and engaging your brain. Something you seem incapable of. Nothing better to do in the Christmas holidays than to stalk and troll? Anyway, back to Musk. I knew little about him until the Thai cave rescue when he called one of the rescuers a “pedo guy.” It seems he is a campaigner for free speak so long as he can defame people himself. I see he recently told someone on X to “go f**k yourself in the face” because he criticised Musk whilst at the same time calling for the platform to be one of “light”. Strange man.

It’s certainly a no to a knighthood but then our honours system is littered with people who get that honour without achieving anything special.
-
The BBC is still producing a wide range of quality programming, although, granted, not as much as before. I have spent ages scanning other channels and apps for things to what this Christmas and apart from old films, can’t find much to rival it. You won’t find high quality things like Wolf Hall, Wallace & Gromit, international, national and local news, a wide variety of quiz and light entertainment shows, drama etc on one channel elsewhere. It’s never going to be all things to all people but I have yet to find another channel that comes near in terms of quality and diversity. Throw in the quality radio broadcasting and international coverage too. When you go back and look at the quality vintage programmes, the vast majority of them were made by the BBC. We should cherish the institution rather than try and hasten its demise.

The moon landings were an incredible achievement and provided many other spin off benefits for mankind. We know a lot more about space and space travel than we did in the last century thanks to that programme. We know that we can achieve just as much now by sending unmanned missions into space. If Musk wants to be remembered for something special that would provide greater benefits to mankind, perhaps he should spend his considerable wealth on finding a cure for cancer instead? Maybe Musk should take time out from becoming the next Bond villain and takes some tips from Gates? https://www.gatesfoundation.org/about/foundation-fact-sheet No Musk on this list. https://english.jagran.com/trending/list-of-top-10-philanthropists-in-the-world-from-jamsetji-tata-to-zuckerberg-check-top-philanthropists-and-their-contributions-10193542

Why? Does history remember the runners up? Currently he holds the same honour as the only man in this country who has won a major honour with an England football team. Doesn’t seem right does it? He already has something. A runners up medal. If we are desperate to honour Southgate for his services to football in this country but not actually winning anything, perhaps he should have received an MBE or something similar? Knighthoods should be for very special achievements only.
-
Indeed. I would say that Gates has already achieved more for mankind that Musk has so far and even if we do put humans on Mars will they provide any more information than the robots can? The bottom line is that unless there is some huge new development in transporting flesh, bone, nervous systems and brain functions across vast distances in space at currently unimaginable speeds outside our own solar system, sending people out there is pointless.
-
Absolutely this. It makes no sense at all to think about colonising a dead planet (and why send humans when bots can do the job if you aren’t looking at colonisation) whilst actively killing our own. Sending out satellites and robots is one thing, humans another. Unless of course we send Musk himself. One for the conspiracy theorists. If we can’t trust Bill Gates and Covid vaccines, why should we trust someone Musk and brain implants? We’d all be buying Teslas and voting Reform.

He has been knighted for not winning the World Cup and not winning the Euros. Takes the shine off those who were knighted for 1966 somewhat doesn’t it? Would Alf had been given a sniff at an honour if he had lost the final? Of course not. It took years for many of the squad to actually get a winners medal too. It seems that being a plucky loser gives you equal status now. These things should be taken away from politics. If we are going to have an honours system it should operate separately from governments by a board with clear guidelines as to how they are granted, proper transparency and firm checks and balances to ensure that they aren’t bought. Even Liz Truss got to hand out honours after her embarrassingly short time in office. Crazy.
-
Gareth Southgate has been knighted. Not a bad reward for failure. Still hope for Russell then.

Musk a hypocrite? Surely not. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/elon-musk-x-positive-content-b2671550.html

If only the US could find another president like this one. I can’t see Trump leaving such a legacy. https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/dec/29/jimmy-carter-dead-longest-lived-us-president

I thought we deserved to get something out of the game after a shaky start but we still look like a Championship side out of our depth. West Ham aren’t great but have the Prem nous to see us off, as most Prem teams have done this season, no matter what our tactics. Martin’s tactics certainly did not help, but it is all about recruitment and we just haven’t brought in the quality to compete week in week out at this level. Having said that, we should have enough about us to cause plenty of problems in the Championship next season. How angry did Tall Paul look when Dibling choose to shoot rather than square it to him in a better position?

This growing spat is something to look forward to in 2025. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/12/28/elon-musk-fact-check-badenoch-fakery-tweet/

I don’t know how I missed this. Nothing to worry about here then? https://amp.theguardian.com/technology/2024/jan/29/elon-musk-neuralink-first-human-brain-chip-implant

And yet again you bring me up. I did ask you to stop stalking me. The fact that you have Turkish on your side does neither of any favours. All this stuff about being unaware and yet you and he are the most unaware posters on here. A delusional conspiracy theorist and a narcissist, a marriage made in hell. I have only replied to a few of your posts so this idea that you have that I hang on your every word is, again, delusional. As for my avatar. I have been on this place for years and changed it once and yet people who have changed their countless times have an issue with it? You guys really need to get out more. If I had posted a Lego head would you have had a problem with it? 😂 Seriously, how old are you? Lord Duckhunter is ok but Count Duckula winds you up? To quote another longstanding poster, Jesus wept.
-
I must admit I’m enjoying the irony that one of this forums most ardent Reform supporters originally chose his user name as a piss take of one of what are now the current few Reform MPs. On the plus side, we aren’t likely to see Lord Lego Head any time soon.
-
So he wouldn’t have any time for MLT then? I remember the days when “fit players” we seen as being more valuable than skillful players. Players like Tony Currie, Frank Worthington and MLT would be left out for players who put in a “shift”. I also remember when Joe Mercer was brought in as an interim England manager and brought in what we considered “flare” players. What a breath of fresh air that was. Fitness will get you so far. Quality will get you further.

This isn’t a Sunday league club, it is a large professional business which employs very expensive employees to work for them. Passion and commitment gets you nowhere if you don’t have the requisite level of ability which, sadly, Jack doesn’t have.
-
I think you are missing the point. It’s not about “intelligence” per se as I see it. It is about how you go about forming opinions. Do you look at as much information as possible and come up with a conclusion or do you just go along with a populist red meat thrown out by populist politicians who just aim their rhetoric at knee jerk reactionaries. You only have to look at many of the people who rioted earlier in the year. Do you think that they sat down at did research about immigration or even bothered to find out the facts of what actually happened with those poor children? Do you think that they looked into the negative economic possibilities of what Brexit was likely to bring us or just went with wanting their country back when they casted their votes?

I’m with multiple badgers on this show. I can’t stand James Corden so have managed to avoid this other than the promo clips. I have only just realised that it is a comedy. I did manage to get through about half a film with Corden and his moon faced mate in it before bailing out. It was terrible. Something to do with lesbian vampires? Christmas TV used to be the best telly of the year. My brother and I used to go through the Radio Times and TV Times and plan our viewing for two weeks. There was so much quality stuff on that, invariably, programmes would clash. This was before video recorders so we ended up missing out on some stuff. You can’t go wrong with Wallace and Grommit and it was another quality film. Even without the great Peter Sallis. The new guy’s Wallace voice is spot on. The tribute to Hairy Biker Dave was very tastefully done and very moving. I was looking forward to Outnumbered but it doesn’t work as well now that the kids are grown up. Sadly, Christmas has gone from being best telly of the year to searching all channels or old recordings to find something to watch. My favourite Christmas songs are Fairytale of New York, I Believe In Father Christmas and Run With The Fox by Chris Squire and Alan White of Yes. The golden oldies are Let It Snow and of course, White Christmas. It’s not Christmas for me without them. I was lucky enough to catch Greg Lake on a solo tour about 20 years ago and he played a stunning version of I Believe In Father Christmas with his band. There is also a video of him singing it accompanied by Ian Anderson on flute in St Brides Church, Fleet Street on YouTube that is worth catching if you love the song.

You really are not that bright are you nic? Stalking is following someone about and responding to their posts on multiple threads. I haven’t been following Duckie about and responding to his every post. I was making a point about Duckie using a comedy name and avatar for our manager. They are two different things, savvy? You are stalking me. I made a comment about Duckie’s behaviour. Two. Different. Things. Now just stop it. You are making yourself look even more ridiculous than you previously were. And by the way, my post was on topic for this thread. Go back and look at your comment and think about your own behaviour. Then find a dictionary and look up the words and meanings of; “hypocrisy”, “obsessive behaviour”, “stalker”,“conspiracy theorist”, the phrase “pot calling the kettle black” and finally, stupid.

I am guessing you received this last year but didn’t bother to read it? Anyway, wishing most here a very happy Christmas and three points tomorrow!

If we are going to play that game. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/elon-musk-spacex-sexual-relationships-b2561556.html# Sounds like he and Trump are kindred spirits. https://www.axios.com/2024/06/12/elon-musk-spacex-sexual-harassment-lawsuit

I sincerely hope that someone gets you a sense of humour (and irony) for Christmas. Ask someone what stalking means and check your own behaviour. You are literally stalking me! 😘
