You are right Vectis. I think however everyone will either forget or not be bothered once they hear 30k singing it at St Marys and around the country. The impact of the words (most people already know most of them) and the team plus i think once the club catch on they will appreciate and promote it. Ive been a sound engineer at a number of stadia, indoors and out and there are few tunes that can match its intensity. One of the other is Bohemian rhapsody but that's an non starter for us. The reason I keep plugging it is I've heard it lift a crowd's emotions, raise the hairs on your neck and I know it would do the same at the football.

we need to have several anthems. Oh When the saints, The Woolston Ferry are both great. The one I have been promoting for a long time is 'Sailing'. It would really catch on with our links to the sea. the words are well known and easily adaptable. And as i have said before the acoustics would drown out everything else. I am a bit lost for words as to why this hasnt been taken up. All the players songs are very short lived (as others have said). We are building on the club. The club and city and supporters are what we support. The atmosphere, the recognition, everything is right for this song to be our alternative anthem.

this is a complete ++++up. all the talk of being a well run club is down the swanny in my opinion. I think letting Toby go is just the type of crap that will rile Ron no end and add or probably negate any chance of him staying beyond his contract. Im sick after all the self congratulates i have heard after last summer that Less Reed could let this happen. I would far preferred we didnt even try and get him as he obviously (if he goes to spurs) is a complete knob head. The club need to buy Van Dyke from Celtic quick. I doubt they can do that as they wont offer enough money. Im completely fed up with all this sustainable talk coming from the club. It is not sustainable to weaken the team so others can catch up and all the players want to leave given any chance they get. To keep us sustainable we need to keep improving the signings. West Ham will improve over the next 5 years, Everton will keep on doing what they do. I expect i will get a load of flack off this forum for throwing the baby out of with the bath water and i hope i am completely wrong.I really hope I am wrong. I just want us to pull of another Kevin Keegan, i just want us to **** Spurs and liverpool.and Arsenal. I just want our young players to want to stay at the club longer than 1 season in the first team. I just want to win something not celebrate 7th. I want the club to strengthen in Jan if we are looking good like last season. I want Ralf to bring some friggin money in!!!! I want cheaper tickets, I want us to adopt Sailing as an anthem at St Marys. Im fed up and i hold the club responsible - Les Reed - Ralf Kruger and Kat. Stop all our staff leaving - pay them the money to stay. Paul mitchel had obviously down loaded all our targets, that legal officer who went obviously cocked up on Tobys contract. All the bull**** i hear 'thank you southampton, thank you' then they are off- its utter crap. Only a few players deserve to be sung, Fonte is one of them, yosheda is another maybe long maybe bertrand, . Big Vic is itching to leave we need to tie him down and buy Claise and Cabaye. we need to do this to keep Ron happy he is the only honest one amongst them all. He says it like it is. He will work his contact and then go to Barca or Holland. If the club are not going to spend money on players then cut the ticket price simple. If my local cafe is not going to serve top restaurant food they cut the price and serve the full english and the place is packed with everyone happy. **** **** ****

We need to sing Sailing by Rod Stewart. Let the opposition know they are in southampton
-
Only two positive things for me came from the game 1. Confirmation Yosh is a hard bastard 2. Harry Reed seems to get better each game he plays
-
Is it confirmed Yoshida is back for training before the weekend? I know some have said yes I just want to be sure
-
its a real shame you have no vision griffo. I suppose ignorance is bliss
-
He ain't Heavy is a great song. The only problem is unfortunately Erwin won't be with us in 10 years. I'm thinking long term . Southampton hopefully will always be Sailing! Its what we are - The docks, The boats, The team - to coin a phrase!
-
Its not really complicated for christ sake! 2 verses are repeated Can you hear us Can u hear us i am convinced it would more than work
-
We need 2 anthems that can resonate around the world. 1. Oh when the Saints (2 verses) 2. Sailing (by Rod Stuart) "Sailing" We are sailing, We are sailing, home again 'cross the sea. We are sailing, stormy waters, to be near you, to be free. We are flying, We are flying, like a bird 'cross the sky. We are flying, passing high clouds, to be with you, to be free. Can you hear me, can you hear me thro' the dark night, far away, We are dying, forever trying, to be with you, who can say. Can you hear us, can you hear us, thro' the dark night far away. We are dying, forever trying, to be with you, who can say. We are sailing, we are sailing, home again 'cross the sea. We are sailing stormy waters, to be near you, to be free. Oh Saints, to be near you, to be free. Oh Saints, to be near you, to be free, southampton, southampton, Southampton (chant at the end) With the acoustics in the ground and everyone knowing the words there is no doubt this would raise our profile and echo around the world

When we get into Europe (i hope/pray) an international song like We are Sailing will be played in every country. Along with Oh when the saints we will have two perfect recognisable songs to our name. that is if we can manage another few verses of oh when the saints. It really wound me up when Ipswich were singing - you've only got one song. it wound me up because its true. I don't count players songs (they come and go) and i don't count pompy songs (they have gone!)

Southampton is a port city. Newcastle sunderland liverpool are the only other premiership cities that come to mind as major ports. We are associated with the docks. We are associated with the sea. Our badge recognises this. OUtside Southampton this is what people know of us. We need another song that reflects that. We are Sailing is the only song that does this. it hits all the right factors in terms of words and most importantly acoustics. My job as a sound engineer gives me an insight into the sound /noise that needs to be created in a stadium to create that hair on the back of the neck feeling. The tune and harmony from We are Sailing would take the roof off - trust me.
-
we need to adopt 'we are Sailing' by rod Stewart. It is the anthem every club needs to make a wall of sound. it fits the club it fits the city. Everyone knows the words even Ronald as it was a big hit in holland. Add this to more than one verse of oh when the saints and we are soorted
-
soory wrong thread. i mean for sheffield utd
-
id like to see an academy player replace mane for this one plus jwp replace tadic and reed replace davis. unfortunately we need wanyama to play
-
why is watching chelski like going to the opera? 1. the audience are always quiet till something dramatic happens 2. the players always moaning and making more noise than the audience 3. its always the same old show - Swan Lake down at the bridge
-
I am perplexed that no one agrees the rod Stewart Sailing would be great. Its not about players who come and go. its about the City and the club. RK chairman said so much when he said southampton is all about 1. football 2. boats and 3. the docks
-
There is only one song we need to add to oh when the Saints. ' Sailing' by Rod Stewart. It reflects the City, it is well known across the world, it was a big hit in holland, the words are easily adapted, 'Can you hear us, Can you hear us' belted out by 30k people would become an iconic anthem across the world. "Sailing" I am sailing, I am sailing, home again 'cross the sea. I am sailing, stormy waters, to be near you, to be free. We are flying, We are flying, like a bird 'cross the sky. I am flying, passing high clouds, to be with you, to be free. Can you hear us, can you hear us thro' the dark night, far away, I am dying, forever trying, to be with you, who can say. Can you hear us, can you hear us, thro' the dark night far away. I am dying, forever trying, to be with you, who can say. We are sailing, we are sailing, home again 'cross the sea. We are sailing stormy waters, to be near you, to be free. Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free. Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free, Oh Lord. if we sung this it would be the first step to drawing in the crowds, creating a great atmosphere and add to the spirit in the team.

against a team like city we can afford a deeper number 10. the role demands attacking intent but also plenty of movement. I think some people misunderstand that the position does not need to be all out attack but an occupation of space. if we play are usual 3 up front this is a good option as we have seen before
-
I think cork could do a good job against City in the number 10. Thinking about it I would be happy with any of the 3 , Jack , Victor or morgen playing there
-
Not suggesting we change the goalie. I am suggesting that the risk of forster getting sent off is getting more worrying after that mistake and without King Arthur as back up considering a 3 game ban we would be in trouble
-
worried about Forster. if he had got sent off we would be in trouble. bring back Arthur
-
Im eager to see Harry Reed get a decent run out. if we go 0-2 up at half time i think ron should bring him on.
-
we cant keep on replacing every summer. The only way to stem the flow is CL football, 45K plus attendance plus what every big club has, ie a song that is longer than one verse. Why can't we sing at least 3 different verses of oh when the Saints. In addition to this we need to adopt Sailing by rod Stuart. This was a big hit in Holland and as our manager has said Southampton is for him about football, the dockyards and the boats. Everyone knows the words, the lyrics will create a feel good goose bump atmosphere and if we start this season we can perfect it for Europe next year.
-
If we want to keep him we can easily afford to. When you compare staff wages to player wages if we think he is worth it double his wages is no problem. I personally think the buying record is mixed as someone else posted before. When you add it up its almost one good one against one bad one.
