  1. completely agree. though mane and toby didn't have a pre season and toby started very well (mane took a few games to come out the woodwork)
  2. Really? limbrick I think was the most important cog. now he's gone, we are metaphorically up a transfer creek with no paddle. In more serious analysis....who said it was a meltdown? I don't understand all the hoo ha about last summer. We felt it was a meltdown, because we had no idea that the board actually knew shaw was an utter must-sell at 30m, lovren was expendable and wanted to go, lambert fair enough I agree was the most unfortunate because he was solid and committed *****il he left..), and lallana was always wanting to go somewhere 'bigger' for last couple of years I reckon, so fair enough. I'm not saying that saints heirarchy wasn't surprised by some of the comings and goings, I think even they couldn't have forseen how well it would turn out. However, for this summer, it definitely is not a meltdown. We've strengthened in attack, by wisely resting jay rod for the last couple of games when he could have played, and buying juanmi. We've got a solid goalkeeper and right back, though both could go either way in reality (i.e. have good or bad seasons). We'll replace morgan when he goes, and likely find a strong defender to replace toby, though the latter isn't as certain. We've got a good manager, a good squad.....not sure what all the fuss is about. granted though, limbrick is a massive loss for us, the scale of which may well constitute a meltdown
  3. fairly sure victor cannot be described as "powder puff"
  4. does mustard mean good or bad in this context ? or maybe it depends on your view of mustard

i echo this gladly. although to be fair, kane, mason, bentaleb etc.? Not bad spurs grown players
  6. ... Don't really understand this post. I don't know what you're expecting of Martina - no one's stupid enough to think he's going to go from 'championship', as some have said, to first choice for a top 6 club. That's not the kind of progression we're thinking of. Koeman's obviously good but he isn't Ghandi, and preseason isn't a magic holiday to turn turds into golddust. All we're saying is if Martina is in the right environment and with a bit of luck he could turn out to be a solid, adaptable (plays across the back 4 and in cdm) bench warmer for a long and tiresome European/cup campaign. And that'll be just fine for me.
  7. I don't know. some players seem sh t and eventually come good. pelle was awful until he went to feyenoord - something like 22 goals in all comps in 130 odd games. We can obviously only base judgements on what the past form/achievements have been, which granted hasn't been good for cuco, but new manager, new club, new league.....things might change and he might be excellent. I mean, he might be terrible, but then why spend so much time on the keyboard tapping out how awful it would be if they don't eventually turn out to be a good signing. Keep calm and carry on..
  8. he is definitely the next glauber berti I feel this is a little premature though to be actually researching sign makers !!
  9. Same. Totally think its an exciting prospect for next season if we manage to replace morgan with someone else combined with the signings / recoveries from injuries that we'll have for 15/16. Trouble is we're banking on the new signings paying off; settling in well, fitting in to koeman's system, working hard and showing some of their abilities. If even one doesn't do that (e.g. soares and steklenburg), we really don't have a viable alternative for those positions. very willing to stay optimistic, though !
  10. fairly sure this transfer must be erwin's work....ronald would never go for him. ERWIN OUT
  11. come on guys. clyne is nowhere near the best RB in the league. we all know he's at the very least behind jones, and then behind henderson. roy knows best
  12. hm. wonder what zabaleta is on
  13. interesting if not quite light analysis of ogbonna. apologies if reposted http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2496424-why-angelo-ogbonna-is-the-juventus-player-with-most-to-prove-in-pre-season
  14. little known fact that saintsfc.co.uk is in fact run by the daily express
  15. Les Reed on Clyne, from daily express:
  16. damn. looks like a real picture. games these days eh
  17. http://news.ladbrokes.com/football/premier-league/bayern-munich-target-fit-southamptons-defence.html? Interesting read. Summary: Saints were fairly poor at set pieces (3rd worst from dead balls) last season, but had 9th highest attempts from such balls. The writer suggests charlie austin as a potential solution and also some bloke called Kamil Glik, a CB, who scored 7 goals in italian league all from set pieces. Interesting if that latter name is based on a rumour or just a name out a hat player who is rather good at scoring from set pieces.
  18. I feel this answer is adequete: Yes.
  19. incredible.
  20. Think you're over-exaggerating a lot here. He's improved a lot this season and a good, fast, team player to have around. Not worth 12 million by any stretch, but who cares. We've paid it, lets just crack on. Agreed though, Guidetti isn't the answer. would only take him if he's free and on low wages.
  21. really impressed with the interview. level headed, really relaxed family guy with a wealth of experience and such a refreshingly honest approach to football.
  22. ah nice, didn't see that
  23. no juanmi? surely instead of mayuka.
