  1. be interesting to see what gardos is like when he returns. I remember he had a couple good games, and a couple not so good games. I don't think I really made my mind up what to think about him.
  2. I wish we would play a midfield more like that. He's too loyal to wanyama though.
  3. it will be like shedding weight to gain altitude. free at last
  4. unfortunately probably nailed it
  5. what the actual heck? what a lemon who is behind steve55? a man who posted simutaneously on norwich, southampton, plymouth, charlton and bury fans forums each time claiming to be one of "us" it's not even annoying. it's wierd. unless of course you're raking it in from advertising on your website in which case, still an utter lemon, just a slightly richer lemon
  6. think this is a case of summer plans being brought forward 6 months
  7. I'm not an idiot. 30000 x even 10 quid increase is going to be minimal. I already said that in the OP. my point is would you pay more at the gates if signings were guaranteed. not that the extra money would be the amount you have to spend on players.
  8. broken promises aside from the board, lets assume the trasnfers definitely came
  9. just interested, setting aside A) the fact saints income comes from many different places, and B) that arguably we should be already getting more for what we pay now anyway, and C) 10 quid per fan is hardly going to make a big difference : would saintsweb folk be willing for ticket prices to go up (OK over a bit of time) if transfers definitely would come in and we'd buy players of a similar/better quality than now? I'm only asking because season ticket/matchday ticket is where it concretely hits the wallet, so a good indication of how much people are willing to walk the walk and not just talk the talk
  10. "there's been a murdur !"
  11. disagree sorry. had he played two young, unexperienced players just a few days after playing them mid-week, we'd be saying that it was a ridiculous decision and he needs to rest them and break them in easy. there is no reason whatsoever that the current players can't pick themselves up. to say that they 'need time on the bench' to somehow mentally turn around 360 deg. is just not true. ultimately, they are as likely to have a good game as the youth prospects right now, if not a better chance. the funny thing is we are playing alright in a majority of the last 8 that we've lost. watched maybe 5-6 of those games and was reasonably happy. the bottom line is that we aren't bad, we just don't score (among other well documented issues in the team, like CM/RB/GK replacements) . are reed and seager able to play at that level (fairly alright/not bad) and also contribute what we are really missing - GOALS ? I actually don't think so. they are at best able to compete with our current 11 on form and having a good innings. but they aren't match winners and that's what we're desperate for I like academy prospects. and I'm more positive than other saints fans maybe about the moment. as has been posted elsewhere by someone (can't remember where), we have produced very good players which could be playing for us now (shaw, chambers, even lets be honest the Ox or bale though they are rare) were it not for the fact they are so good, they move on. So our academy is fine, and producing players of an age that could play for us right now. it's just not producing a lot of mid-table players that would stick around, fill the squad etc.
  12. think koeman has by and large hit the nail on the head. the impression you get on here is that koeman is somehow supressing some world class talent in not playing reed and gallagher in half the league games this season. but I think targett was just a much of a worry at full back as maya is. reed has been alright, but why give him a 'punt' when in romeu and clasie we have two fairly good players with experience at a good level? the fact that people are saying gallagher/seager should be given a good run now that pelle and jay-r are out, doesn't demonstrate that 'we needed him all along' or 'now is his time', but is just indicative of the fact we're conducting our squad management on ice at the moment. Two injuries and we literally do not have a player that can give us goals up front. It's abysmal really. in other words, gallagher shouldn't be playing now. we should be bringing him on when we've got a solid, performing team week in week out. I'll rehash what I posted somewhere else - one of my issues with the past 2 years saints squad is that we're now so international (I think almost every member of our current 1st 11 has played abroad nearly..!) that there's little loyalty. it's one thing having youth, yes. But youth are as likely to develop and be sold as anyone else (if not more?). what we don't have any more, besides maybe davis, davis and fonte (?) is proper club lads who've been around for a bit and aren't likely to move anywhere else as they just aren't good enough to move to a top 6 club but wouldn't move horizontally to palace or swans or the like. Most other clubs have local, homegrown or just english players who fill the squad, aren't top class but can be relied upon. outside of a very unstable (and more likely to go elsewhere, since they've already made international moves to play for saints in PL) international core, we've got some youngsters who aren't really cutting the mustard if we want to aim for top 1/2 table. definitely not hating on the foreign players. just saying that players who have made big moves to come to PL from afar are much more likely to up and go again. and youngsters also. I wish that instead of gallagher/seager being our only viable other choice for striker besides long, that we had some more solid, championship proven squad members who could jump in. anyway. rant over. I'm down on the season in general, feel like saints fans getting run round the mill a bit with buying season tickets and having reasonable expectations that dont on the surface seem to be matched by the actions of the saints board. worth bearing in mind that pelle's hit 30 as well. next season probably his phase-out season aso I'd hope that this jan or summer we're bringing in a very decent CF/striker as his replacement.
  13. christmas mins. that's all
  14. in principle I like the idea. I wonder whether it is too monumental a shift to work out. plus you don't know what koeman has tried on the training ground and not worked. bale's shift fwd was clearly the result of proving himself as an attacker on the training ground on point 6 though - bear in mind gary neville only scored 5 goals in his whole man U career .......!
  15. ah. apparently that whole system stopped a couple of years ago you should google their new league system. credit where credits due if you can actually understand it
  16. an argentinian one? they have two leagues, half as long as the premier league each there's a champion at the end of each mini season those crazy argentinians
  17. squad rotation for xmas schedule. bit frustrating watching spurs with one absolutely in form first choice RB, and another quality, young and upandcoming RB as reserve, who ends up getting an assist on his occassional appearance that's where we should be
  18. not anymore with kyle walker on fire
  19. gunna get shot down but, thought he wasn't absolutely horrendous last night. I noticed tadic being v appreciative of his efforts going forward, always looking for an attacking pass. v good at heading, noticed he won several 1on1's while pressing off the ball, basically all in 1st half. 2nd I noticed he was poorer, with 3-4 wayward passes giving possession over, and also valencia (was it?) easily getting behind him to cross it. I also noticed that he tried some flair football once or twice - looked very happy on the ball. I'm not saying he's world class, or even reliable, but he is better than people make out. I've said in the past I thought he was useless - but in all seriousness I now think on this seasons form I almost prefer him at RB to yoshida. Yoshida is such an utterly boring and negative player (hardly ever plays forward), who is capable of a goal-conceding shambles. I agree though that he was at fault for at least 1 goal
  20. James Forrest from celtic saw him play maybe 3-4 times over the summer and start of the season, what with all the rumours about van dijk and then with celtic in europe. he is very very good. very good with the ball, a real athlete, has an incredible shot that he seems not to even need a run up for. he's a winger - which we need - and at a club we have a good relationship with. we could move mane to number 10 permenantly, and davis/jwp could either cover the 10 / out wide as backup. heard it hear first (unless someone else said it before.....obviously)
  21. Little harsh on Davis. Lots of people being hypocritical about him - seems he has a blinder and is MoM one game, bringing energy and creativity, and the next he's some ageing donkey who lets the game pass him by. Perhaps though his inconsistency is the thing that's bothersome. Not exactly like he's alone in that regard, tho
  22. merry Christmas indeed! Underspending, poor defending, no goals, a lack of confidence, players with heads elsewhere, premature European and capital one cup exit, no regular youth in first team and sky high fan expectations ! Still, could be worse
  23. agree with this
