  1. Could be someone from the Australian cricket team...
  2. I've been to a couple of Everton games with a mate and Barkley has his moments when he rolls a man or does something, but he also drifts a lot through games, gives the ball away needlessly and often dangerously, and makes bad decisions. I think JWP is progressing fine - look at Morgan 5 years ago and people slagged him off loads too. Central midfielders usually take longer to develop as it's a position with a lot more responsibility - you have to balance retaining possession with risk taking, and also dictate the tempo of the game. He ain't a world beater yet, but it's too soon to junk him. Kane has been on loan all over the place and only went up a level this season - before this, would you have wanted him?
  3. Yep, you're right, the annual for Minimum Wage should read: Minimum Wage: £6.50 / hour = £260 / week = £13.5k / year And 'Market Value' depends very heavily on your definition. The minimum wage is actually a wage on which people need benefits to survive - ie it is actually BELOW the true market value. Companies that pay the minimum wage are actually using benefits as a government subsidy for their low wages.
  4. Hey all, Quick post as this is doing the rounds on my FB: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/feb/11/richard-scudamore-premier-league-responsibility-living-wage In it Scudamore basically comes off as a **** saying he's comfortable with footballers earning £100k+ per week while club employees might be on the minimum wage. Just wanted to know what people on here think, and would people want to submit a petition to the club to pay at least the living wage - which FYI is: Living Wage: £7.85p / hour = £314 / week = ~£16.5k / year vs Minimum Wage: £6.50 / hour = £260 / week = £10.5k / year Which I honestly do not think is gonna break the bank or change the amount the club can spend on the pitch. Especially given the whole community spirit and 'more than a club' philosophy the top brass are putting out, I think it would be good for Chelski not to be the only club committed to the Living Wage. Thoughts?
  5. Latecomer to this thread, but I think things seem to be a little confused in economic terms. The elasticity of demand clearly does depend on the opposition. Having different categories of games already recognizes this! - Cat A = inelastic, high prices as demand is high regardless of price Cat C = elastic, lower prices to stimulate demand. If the stadium is not full, then someone is not doing their job as well as they should, as empty seats always = loss of revenue. Not only from the ticket cost, but from additional spend at the stadium. So reducing the cost of the empty seats at Cat C games is one possible solution. Another would be last minute, at the ground sales of the unsold tickets at a discount of £5-£10. That seems a lot, but remember, if they otherwise stay unsold, you make £0. Also, you get people to the stadium, where you could potentially sell merchandise, or one thing that I don't know why no clubs have done - possibly broadcasting rules or police / safety regs? - Have a cheap standing area with a giant screen for 'overflow' fans.
  6. From where we were at the opposite end, I thought at first the keeper should have saved it, but now I've seen the replays, I actually think he didn't have much chance. In his starting position he had 2 players blocking his view of the ball being struck, it came past those 2, and as soon as he saw it he moved right - but the ball had enough swerve on it to take it away from him a couple of feet, and at that pace, he had no time to recover. If you pause the video right after he strikes it, the trajectory of the ball is quite a bit to the right of where it ended up.
  7. What a great night! Quality all over the pitch and in the stands. Our midfield 3 of Morgan, Big Vic and Davis were brilliant, Tadic really impressive not just for his skill but also his workrate. Mane was exciting, really quick and aggressive but wasn't quite on the same wavelength as everyone else at times - not surprising though! Also he got caught on the ball a few times and you could see he'd come from a slower league, but he'll be fine once he's actually had some training and match time! Targett was rock solid except for a miscommunication close to the end when someone got in down the right. Voted for Clyney as he didn't do a thing wrong all night despite having Podolski and Sanchez in his zone a lot, and what a strike! And good to meet stardustonmyfeet from this forum! Good luck with your 3-mile open water swim, better you than me
