  1. I think this thread should be closed and a new one without the baggage started.
  2. I have posted a new blog entry entitled “Great Moments in Recent Southampton FC History (Part Four)”
  3. Comment deleted because I figured it out for myself. Have a nice day. http://www.tsmplug.com/football/man-city-players-salaries-2014/ They have pages for other teams as well.
  4. I have posted a new blog entitled “How Close Were We” analyzing how close we might have been to competing for Europe and the Champions League if we have retained our players from last year and brought in new signings. Warning, I once again use information from Football Manager 2014 in my analysis.
  5. I agree with the limits on its accuracy which is why I never rely upon it without specifically saying that is what I am doing. That being said, the fact that they include an increased salary for international appearances as a contract option is not something they would make up out of whole cloth. I doubt they know who has such provisions in their contract, but certainly some players do. Also, for some of the things I do on my blog a set of easy to find internally consistent numbers is what I need since the thrust of my analysis is not dependent on the numbers being entirely accurate. Thus, for example, the significance of the BPL salary cap on Southampton is dependent on real numbers I can't possibly know, but the fact that there is a potential effect and what factors can increase or reduce that effect can be demonstrated with FM numbers so long as everyone knows that is what I am using.
  6. If Football Manager is to be believed, substantial pay increases following a player's first international appearance are common. That could mean that Southampton was hit with 5 such increases in the past year and was facing at least two more this year. To be fair, however, the current version of FM does not claim that Schneiderlin, Clyne, or Chambers had such contract provisions.

  8. This will have the information you are talking about. We were 18th in our first season back. Last year's aren't published yet. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/01/premier-league-accounts-club-by-club-david-conn

  12. Is there anyway for an American to see this interview. I registered with sky but I needed to have some kind of sports package to play the interview.

  14. On the other hand, he is older and worse than Chambers so that knocks his price down before 16 million.

  16. The point of life, I would like to believe, is to live it well--not to win it. Translating that to BPL terms, the club needs to do its best both on a game to game basis and beyond that. Although it might have felt like there was a chance to break through after last year, that chance was illusory given the Salary Cap rules. (Man City and Chelsea are likely the last teams that can fully buy success.) However, progress is not impossible. It has to be done intelligently and steadily--not all at once. And it still will require a rich and supportive owner which it is quite possible we now have.

  22. That's fine. I was just concerned that somehow I had missed this information being published somewhere. I don't doubt you because I have no reason to. The pretty please was offered not as sarcasm but because I knew it would be a pain to post several links and I was trying to be nice.

  24. I am not disputing any of your claims. Could you provide links supporting them? Pretty please.
