  1. The problem is that even with the new and improved head injury rules this year, we still have players returning to play only to go off later with concussions. Shane Long, for example, in the Newcastle game. I think part of the problem is that there is too much pressure to rush the assessment on the side line. A temporary replacement would allow a full and proper assessment to occur. This is not happening in all cases right now. I have discussed this on my blog several times. http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2014/08/concussions-and-brain-injuries-in_8.html http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2014/08/concussion-update.html http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2014/09/concussion-update-part-3.html http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2014/09/concussion-update-part4.html Simply telling teams to use one of their three substitutions is not working. If you are concerned about tactical misuse of the temporary subs maybe the referee should simply declare a head injury and that would require an automatic temporary sub for ten minutes at the end of which the player had to be returned to play or permanently replaced.
  2. More Southampton history I did not know.
  3. Or maybe Tottenham has just been relegated from the big team category.
  4. I don't quite understand. Are you saying that the people posting nice things about Liebherr are not actually happy fans, but are paid employees of the team?
  5. Well, they started it. http://fansonline.net/portsmouth/mb/view.php?id=556374 Also, at one point more than 10 percent of the page views of my blog came straight from the Pompey boards. Even now it is more than 5 percent. My recent article about Portsmouth's transfer window attracted more interest than anything else I wrote this month except the first Martin Samuel thing and the majority of that interest was from them not us. If I were trying to monetize my blog, I would probably write about Portsmouth in a close to even-handed way once a week. It would infuriate them, but they would still come to read it.
  6. 1) Agree 2) Disagree, with explanation below. 3) Partially disagree. We already know plenty, but not enough to know where we will finish. But relegation, for example, seems virtually inconceivable. 4) Agree, except that I like analysis and a little bit of caution. Will skip the handwringing though. Last year we had 11 points after six games. Our opponents earned 29 points in the games that were not against us. This year we have 13 points and our opponents, before today's game, earned 35 points in games against others. So we have played better against a somewhat tougher schedule. A schedule of average opponents would have earned 38 points this year so our schedule has been slightly easy, but if Newcastle wins today, it will have been average.
  7. You can make a case for Delia Smith at Norwich.
  8. Their majority owner appears only to be a rich millionaire: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Fernandes Their 33% minority owner is one of the richest people in the world: http://www.forbes.com/profile/lakshmi-mittal/ I don’t, but I wouldn’t have minded writing nearly all of that article. I have posted on Portsmouth and Swansea forums though. I sort of decided not to stick my head onto London team forums. I assumed they would be a snake pit. Was I wrong?
  9. I don't disagree with nothing you didn't say.
  10. Because there is a real problem with players with concussions continuing to play and risking their life or future mental health. There is no real problem with players with broken legs continuing to play.
  11. This rumor makes no sense for January. If we were to qualify for Europe next year, it might make sense in the summer.
  12. Something like this for head injuries would be a good idea. The rule would have to be drafted carefully to avoid abuse. There should also be a minimum time the player must be off to ensure that he gets a full concussion evaluation and is not rushed back onto the field.
  13. I have just posted a new article entitled “Southampton FC, Martin Samuel, and Financial Fair Play (Part 2)” in which I begin my analysis of Samuel’s claim that Financial Fair Play imposes a “glass ceiling” on Southampton’s progress. Alas, the article got too long so I have decided to post part of it now and finish and post the rest in a few days. On the good side, I finally figured out how to make the £ sign on my American computer. http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/ http://redsloscf.blogspot.co.uk/

  15. Too soon to tell on the field. I prefer the current off the field set up with Southampton history acknowledged. And this is from a fan of four year's standing only. I base this opinion on the difference between the 1979 San Francisco 49ers and the 1978 San Francisco 49ers.
  16. I think we can all agree that beating Tottenham next week would, on its own, qualify as something special.

    FLORIN GARDOS

During the busy December (and January--if we are still in cup competitions) time frame, we can play different combinations and give everyone playing time. I hope that is the plan rather than sticking to just two CBs and playing them until they get injured.
  18. I disagree. QPR was the lowest ranking qualifier from the Championship so they should be compared to our results against the last place team. Cardiff beat us at home last year so we have 13 points instead of 12.
  19. I have posted a new blog entry entitled “Concussion Update (Part4). “ I am still working on part two of my “Southampton FC, Martin Samuel, and Financial Fair Play” article. It is turning out to be lengthy and difficult. http://redsloscf.blogspot.co.uk/ http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/
  20. I agree this was a smart move by Boruc. Also, being American with a different perspective on local English rivalries (I don't really care about them), I think it would be great if Boruc help get Bournemouth promoted.
  21. I apologize for missing the sarcasm. This is the first time that has happened to me. I will make sure it never happens again. Also, I should have looked at the name of the poster. That would have clued me in.
  22. To be fair, I bought two pinstripe kits for the (then) five year old daughters of my two paralegals. I would not have bought stripes for them because I know they would not have worn them. Also, part of my point is that NC could not have designed more than one (the pinstripes) of the disliked outfits.
  23. The people who picked 11 points came closest.
  24. He started on the left, but apparently was authorized to run all over the place.
  25. I would exercise the buy out clause on Bertrand for 10M pounds, swamp him for Shaw, sell Shaw for another 30M pounds, and use 10M of it to buy Bertrand again.
