I am planning to post blog entries more frequently in the next couple of weeks as a kind of holiday celebration/caught up on work thing. Keeping in mind the sort of thing I write about, does anyone have any suggestions or requests?

I think we probably can afford 70K a week for him--the problem would be the cascading effects on other salaries. Would everyone want a raise if he gets that amount or would the other players be happy the club is holding onto a top player?

Frankly, if Clyne (or any player) wants to leave us (or any club) to go to a "bigger" club, I do not understand why he would let us sell him for 15 or 20 million pounds in 2015 when he could leave it 2016 and demand a good chunk of that money for himself (or his agent).

I would assume he means offered by agents or, perhaps, was referring to lallana.

The sanctions for the first year were always going to be less serious. The real test will be next season. If the clubs are not FFP compliant, will they receive significant penalties? This would include point deductions or exclusions from competitions because, obviously, massive fines are not significant penalties for the clubs that would otherwise be spending massive amounts of money. Limiting the number of players a club can register for the Champions League is never going to be a good enough remedy unless they leave the eight home grown player rule intact--which they did not this year. We shall see what happens.

I don't think it was actually a strategy. If we qualified for Europe we would sign extra players next summer. Presumably ones who are good enough to play so that we would not be as reliant on the same 11 to 14 players. Here is a link that explains where teams qualify in Europe. Me too. That weirdness is just a function of small sample size. Also, we can't get 27 points in 12 games. And both options are much better than 25 points in twelve games.

While I am beginning to agree with this philosophy, we are already going all out as much as we can until January. Therefore, we (and the club) should simply wait and see what happens in the next five weeks.

I think the major accomplishment was getting it published by a professional paying magazine--not its content. But to the extent it seriously suggests that our championship league run will be foiled by selling important players to competitors in January, it is just nuts.
